Abstract

Myanmar is one of the biggest countries in the world who recruited children for child soldiers.The recruitment of child soldiers in Myanmar is recruited by Tatmadaw Kyi (Myanmarnational army). To resolve this case Myanmar signed Joint Action Plan (JAP) with UN in2012. But the efforts to resolve the case only came from international organizations whereasASEAN as regional organizations has a commission for human rights that is ASEANIntergovernmental Comission on Human Rights (AICHR). In AICHR work plan AICHRmentioned child soldiers issue for thematic studies of human rights. The aim of this researchis to analyze implementation of the work plan of child soldiers case in Myanmar. Thisresearch used literature study based of construtivism theory and correspondence with thestakeholder. Based on construtivism AICHR succeed to construct norms of human rights inASEAN region. Furthermore AICHR could not implemented the works plan in child soldierscase in Myanmar because of the hard mechanism to carried out that case. The mechanismrequire both representative of AICHR and Myanmar to carried out that case in AICHRsummit. Another reason for the failed implementation are the existence of non-interventionprincipal and weakness of protection function of AICHR.

Abstract

The trade and production of illegal drugs such as Cocaine in Colombia have given directimpact which threatening the security of United States' homeland, it's proved from the factthat 90% of Colombian's cocaine entered U.S domestic market. As country that has beenlong-identified as anti-drugs state, United States were responsible for securing its landfrom the threat of illegal drugs both in domestic and regional scope. Thus, U.S has beenproviding assistance namely Plan Colombia to fight the trade and production of Cocaine inColombia for six years. During the implementation of Plan Colombia, U.S faced thefrightening event of 9/11 which shifted the policy from War on Drugs to War on Terror.This research aimed to analyze the impact of U.S shifted policy toward drug's traffickingand production in Colombia. Identity concept of Constructivist theory of InternationalRelations used as research framework. The research conducted in explanative type usingqualitative data technic through library data collection. The result of this researching wouldshow the impact given from U.S shifted policy towards trade and production of drugs inColombia.

Abstract

One child policy has been implemented by the China’s government since 1979. This policycaused, abortion and child trafficking that have been increased in 2008-2014. Asinternational organization focusing on child’s life quality, UNICEF (United Nations ofChildren’s Fund) plays role to deal with abortion and child trafficking in China. Thisresearch used descriptive approach through secondary data using international organizationconcept. This research described the role of UNICEF in dealing with abortion and childtrafficking in China 2008-2014. The result of this study indicated that UNICEF played aneffective reducing role in abortion and child trafficking through health care and protectionfor both mother and children, as well as carried out programs for realizing the rights ofchildren.

Abstract

The development of international crimes related to drug trafficking, facilitated by Silk Roadsite since 2011, has thrived on the latest advanced technology. The site has been known as“cryptomarket” introduced by James Martin on his research results in 2013, which were alsoin the spotlight because of the closure of the site in the Silk Road at the same year. AlthoughSilk Road also sales goods other than the categories of drugs, this research proves that untilthe year of 2015, the third version of this site is still focused on the provision of drugs andstill continues to increase from the previous versions. The result of this research represent thedevelopment of cryptomarket through the growth of Silk Road in the years 2011-2015. Thisresearch analyzes the development of the international regime on cybercrime and drugrelatedcrimes, and also compare the development of cryptomarket through Silk Road.

Abstract

Norway is one of the countries that is well-known for its achievements in gender equality. Alongside that, Norway is a country that implements the policy of Military Conscription for its defense. In 2013, Norway Parliament, namely Storting, adopted the Universal Conscription Policy. Through this policy, women consequently have the same responsibilities as men in joining the military service. In addition to that, there is no difference in the requirements set by the Norwegian Government for men and women in the Universal Conscription Policy. This article thus tries to explain the reasoning behind the establishment of the Universal Conscription Policy in Norway. The analysis is conducted through the perspective of feminism normative theory with qualitative research methods, specifically with discourse analysis. The result of this article shows that the formation of the Universal Conscription Policy in Norway is the impact of discursive practices carried out by the Norwegian Government related to the understanding of gender equality.

Abstract

The damming Mekong River by China is a transnational environmental crime that hasbeen causing severe environmental, health, education, food security, and human securitydamages, especially affecting the lives of Lower Mekong Countries which consist ofThailand, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Myanmar. Seeingthat problem, United States came with help by establishing an institution called LowerMekong Initiative in 2009 which cooperate under environment and water, health,education, connectivity, and women empowerment pillars. The goal of this research is tofind out how the United States has been helping solve the problems in Lower MekongCountries by Lower Mekong Initiative establishment under Obama's era in 2009-2013. Inorder to answer that question, this research used the Neoliberal Institutionalization andInternational Cooperation Theory. The method that used in this research is a qualitativemethod with descriptive-analytical type which done by interviews and literatures review.The result from this research is that the United States has role as initiator, donor, trainingfacilitator, donor assistance, and facilitator of regional dialogue in establishing LowerMekong Initiative. The recommendation that writer addressed to Lower Mekong Initiativeis to make an annual report regarding the result of this cooperation in the membercountries and address China to give transparency about dam data and to reassess the damas to meet the decent international standard of good dam management.

Abstract

It is essential for every country in the world to have national interests for their own prosperity,even though at some points it may be contradicting the other countries. North Korea is one ofthe countries which national interests are contradicting with its neighbor country, SouthKorea. North Korea’s effort to achieve its national interests is also disturbing other countries’common goal, the world peace. This research aims to explain North Korea’s reason inYeonpyeong Island 1999 and 2002 attacks, through neoclassical realism theory. There are twofactors explained in the neoclassical realism theory, the external and internal factor. The resultof this research showed that the attacks happened because North Korea is weak in theinternational system and its political system is focusing on military. Those are the reasons whyNorth Korea used military forces to meet its national interests.

Abstract

Afghanistan is an area where narcoterrism is happening. In there, Taliban helped to launchthe process of opium production and trade it to the international world and makeAfghanistan as a contributor to the world's largest opium. By using the theory of liberalisminstitutional, the researcher trying to analize UNODC’s effort to combat narcotic and howterrorism group get involved in that issuse. The purpose of this study is to determine thegrowth of opium situation in Afghanistan as well as the intervention of the Taliban, andthe efforts of UNODC to overcome this problem in the period of 2011-2014. The resultsshowed that in UNODC’s effort, they found several obstacles as well as the reality thatshows the increasing amount of opium production program despite all the efforts they didto implements their country programme.

Abstract

The notorious Viktor Bout, the most influenced person in the illegal arms smuggling hashuge reputation in supplying illegal arms to the conflicted countries. With his offshorecompanies and his wide-scale network in arms business he supplied small arms and lightweapon (SA/LW) freely without any suspicion of violated the arms embargoes. Liberiaand Angola were countries which clearly cooperated with Viktor Bout to illegally sellarms with the high intensity. Using the method of library research, arms traffickingconcept, and refer to the previous research also with the comparison method in the patternused by Bout in both countries, this research concludes that there is opposite pattern inarms smuggling between Liberia and Angola by Bout. In his operation in Liberia, Boutused the pattern of government assisted-trade which he used to cooperate with localgovernment to illegally break arms embargo and smuggle arms. In Angola, he used thepattern of company brokered-trade which allowed him to utilize his companies andcooperation network to help him smuggled arms to both government and rebel group inAngola.

Abstract

The war between the United States and the Taliban has entered two decades. The US eventually dispatched representatives to negotiate with the Taliban. President Donald Trump has also directed that his troops leave Afghan territory at regular intervals. The negotiation process between the US and the Taliban was tense, but an agreement was eventually reached. Both parties signed the peace agreement in Doha, Qatar, on February 29, 2020. As such, why did the United States, under President Donald Trump's leadership, reach a peace agreement with the Taliban and withdraw American troops from Afghanistan? The purpose of this study is to explain his study employs explanatory research and neoclassical realism theory to identify the factors that influence foreign policy. The result of this study is that the United States' policy to make peace with the Taliban and withdrawal from Afghanistan is the influence of NATO and explains by domestic influence the perception of Trump towards the conflict in Afghanistan.
