Abstract

Marine sponges are an abundant yet underutilized resource in Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia, despite their ecological roles and pharmacological potential. Steroidal metabolites are dominant in many sponge species and have been widely recognized for their strong anti-inflammatory activity. However, the chemical composition and biological potential of Carteriospongia sp from Indonesian waters remain unexplored. Carteriospongia sp was extracted using the Soxhlet method, and the chemical profile was analyzed by Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrophotometry (GC-MS). Anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated in vitro using the Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) protein denaturation assay, with methylprednisolone as the positive control. Molecular docking studies were performed to assess the interactions between steroidal compounds and BSA protein. GC-MS analysis identified eight steroidal compounds such as 2-methylenecholestan-3-ol (S1), stigmasterol (S2), 4,4-dimethyl-cholesta-8,24-dien-3-ol (S3), 8,14-seco-3,19-epoxyandrostane-8,14-dione, 17-acetoxy-3ß-methoxy-4,4-dimethyl (S4), cholic acid ethyl ester (S5),  (3ß,5Z,7E)-9,10-secocholesta-5,7,10(19)-triene-3,24,25-triol (S6), stigmastan-3-en-6-ol (S7), ß-sitosterol (S8). The extract demonstrated concentration-dependent inhibition of protein denaturation, achieving 84.81% inhibition at 128 mg.L-1. The IC50 value was 3.71 mg.L-1, comparable to methylprednisolone (IC50 4.45 mg.L-1). Molecular docking revealed that compound S1 and S4 exhibited lower binding energies than other steroids, suggesting stronger stabilization of BSA protein. The findings demonstrate that Carteriospongia sp extract possesses significant anti-inflammatory potential, comparable to methylprednisolone. This study provides novel insights into the bioactive potential of Indonesian marine sponges and emphasizes the importance of further pharmacological and molecular studies to develop sponge-derived steroidal compounds as alternative or complementary anti-inflammatory therapeutics.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze the influence of Inflation, Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) and Investment on Educated Unemployment in Lhokseumawe City. The data used in this research is secondary data obtained from publications by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and the Medium Term Development Plan (RPJM) of Lhokseumawe City for 15 years (2008-2022). This research uses the Multiple Linear Regression analysis method using Eviews. The results of this research show that inflation has a positive effect on educated unemployment in the city of Lhokseumawe. Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) has no effect on educated unemployment in the city of Lhokseumawe. And investment has a positive effect on educated unemployment in the city of Lhokseumawe. Based on the results of tests carried out simultaneously on inflation, Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) and investment have a significant effect on educated unemployment in Lhokseumawe City.

Abstract

This study aims to describe how students use podcasts to learn vocabulary and to explore their perceptions of using podcasts in vocabulary learning. This study employed a descriptive qualitative research design. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with ten students from the English Language Education Study Program at Universitas Negeri Makassar, selected using purposive sampling. The findings reveal that students use podcasts flexibly, either for focused learning or during daily activities, and they gain new vocabulary through exposure to authentic language.

Abstract

Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP) is a type of nosocomial infection that mostly occurs in intensive care units, generally occurring 48 hours after intubation. Endotracheal intubation and the use of a mechanical ventilator are invasive measures by patients, having a therapeutic effect. This paper aimed to identify the use of oral hygiene materials for the incidence of pneumonia related to the use of a ventilator. The research design was by searching literature in five databases, namely PubMed, Proquest, Science Direct, Wiley Online Library, and Google Scholar, by taking all databases in English and Indonesian, published in the last ten years (2010-2020). There were six articles about the effectiveness of using oral hygiene as risk prevention for Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP) with various concentrations and volumes. Several oral health assessment tools that can be used are Oral Assessment Guide, Beck Oral Assessment Scale, or Mucosal-Plaque Score. Comprehensive implementation of oral hygiene can improve the oral health of patients with mechanical ventilation, so bacterial colonization that causes VAP can be prevented. Therefore, nurses need to understand and apply oral assessment instruments as a basis for giving intervention. Keywords: Intensive care unit, Oral hygiene, Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia
