Abstract

This study explores the role of families, particularly those from low socioeconomic backgrounds, in supporting students' readiness and performance in the assessment process. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with parents, focus group discussions with teachers and counselors, and document analysis of school policies related to assessment preparation. The findings reveal that while families face various challenges such as limited educational resources, time constraints, and digital barriers they nonetheless exhibit a strong willingness to be involved in their children's academic success. Emotional support, monitoring of academic progress, and informal learning at home emerged as common forms of involvement. However, the study also highlights a lack of structured, culturally responsive, and sustainable engagement practices from schools. To enhance student outcomes in assessments, the study recommends that schools develop inclusive communication strategies, provide digital and assessment literacy support for parents, and implement community-based partnership models. The research emphasizes that meaningful school-family collaboration is essential to fostering equitable assessment readiness for all students.

Abstract

Abstract

This study was a quasi-experimental research and oriented to measure the effectiveness for student-teachers’ reading comprehension achievement. There were 80 student-teachers who joined and were grouped into experimental and control groups. They were treated for eight meetings. Both pretest and posttest instruments were integrated for collecting the data. Both paired and independent t-tests were employed to know improvement of the two groups. The findings showed that in pretest, both of groups encountered problems related to reading comprehension. However, after being treated with this Schoology learning management system (LMS) for several meetings, experimental group students gained better achievement in reading comprehension comparing to control group. Mean scores of experimental group (75.250) was bigger than control group gained (61.875). By the same token, the F-test score (0.392) with df (78) and sig. value (0.000) informed about different qualities gained by both groups, i.e., experimental and control. In a nutshell, the integration of Schoology LMS is more effective in increasing students’ reading comprehension comparing to conventional mode of learning.

Abstract

The enhancement or modification of instructional materials is essential to ensure their effectiveness as teaching aids. For the purpose of improving the quality of instructional materials and making them more appealing to educators and students alike, a comprehensive approach must be taken that considers both the content and the form of the materials. In order to make the module an attractive teaching material, it is imperative to enhance its quality. This study aimed to identify the optimal approach for developing an English grammar instructional material based on the constructivist theory and to assess its validity. The research employed a research and development method using the DDR model. The study findings reveal that the English grammar subject 1 module, containing basic and simple materials, is the most suitable form for developing an instructional material oriented to constructivism theory. Additionally, the presentation of the module is clear and well-organized, the language used is easily comprehensible, and the module's structure is user-friendly and engaging. Furthermore, the validation results demonstrate that the developed module is highly effective as an instructional material for teaching English grammar, attesting to its overall quality.

Abstract

This study investigates teachers’ and students’ perceptions of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in English language learning at SD Negeri 1 Suka Mukti. The primary objective of this research is to explore how both teachers and students perceive the use of ICT in English learning and to identify the benefits and challenges they experience in its implementation. Using a mixed-methods approach that includes questionnaires, interviews, and classroom observations, the research examines perceived benefits, challenges, and the overall impact of ICT integration in the primary school context. The findings reveal that both teachers and students hold generally positive attitudes toward ICT. Students report increased motivation and engagement, while teachers highlight ICT’s ability to diversify instructional strategies and support individualized learning. Nevertheless, challenges persist, particularly in regard to limited infrastructure, varying digital literacy levels, and insufficient pedagogical training. These results suggest that effective ICT implementation requires not only technological resources but also teacher capacity-building and supportive institutional policies. Overall, the study underscores ICT’s transformative potential in enhancing English language teaching and learning in Indonesian primary schools.

Abstract

This research examines for students studying English as a second language, mastering grammar—especially the simple past tense—is crucial. Nonetheless, a lot of students still struggle to write and speak in the past tense accurately. The purpose of this study is to examine how SMP 21 Palembang eighth-grade students acquire the simple past tense. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method supported by quantitative data. The participants were 28 students from class VIII in the 2024/2025 academic year. Data were collected through questionnaires, classroom observations, and interviews. The results revealed that students applied three major types of strategies: cognitive strategies (memorizing verbs and practicing exercises), metacognitive strategies (planning and evaluating their learning), and social strategies (asking for help from teachers or peers). Cognitive strategies were the most dominant (53.6%), followed by social strategies (28.6%), and metacognitive strategies (17.8%). The results show that students' comprehension of the simple past tense was improved when they combined these tactics. The findings indicate that most students rely on repetition and memorization rather than contextual understanding, suggesting the need for more communicative and meaningful grammar instruction.

Abstract

The integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into English Language Teaching (ELT) has transformed education into a more flexible and engaging learning environment. ICT enables both teachers and students to access information, interact, and collaborate more effectively. This study explores the ways ICT is applied in English classrooms, its impact on students’ engagement and learning outcomes, and the challenges teachers face in implementing ICT-based instruction. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, this research involved two English teachers and thirty vocational students from SMK YPIP Talang Ubi. Data were gathered through interviews, classroom observations, and questionnaires. The findings show that ICT helps increase students’ motivation, participation, and comprehension, especially through tools such as Google Classroom, YouTube, Quizizz, and Padlet. However, teachers still struggle with limited infrastructure, low digital literacy, and unstable internet access. The study concludes that ICT integration is essential in modern ELT but requires adequate training, institutional support, and technological readiness to be effective.
