Abstract

The main concern of the research was the effectiveness of think-pair- share (TPS) model toward the listening comprehension of the eleventh-grade students at SMAN 1 Anggana in the academic year of 2021/2022. The study aimed to find out the data of the students on listening comprehension by using the TPS model to know whether there was effect of teaching model. The research employed an experimental research design administering two groups with pre-test and post-test. The groups were the experimental group and the controlled group. The experimental group was a group that was given treatment by TPS model for the listening comprehension. In contrast, the controlled group was a group that was provided with the conventional model. The data were taken by administering the fifteen multiple-choice comprehension tests to determine the students’ listening comprehension. The subjects were 66 students of the eleventh-grade students of SMAN 1 Anggana in the academic year of 2021/2022. Each group consisted of 33 students. The treatment was given to the subject in the sixth meeting. Finally, the researcher gave the post-test to the two groups and analyzed the score. Then the data were analyzed by using t-test to determine whether there was a significant difference between the TPS model and the conventional model. The result of the research TPS model has a positive advantage on students’ comprehension.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan (1) memperoleh informasi input (antecedents) tentang penyelenggaraan latihan UN, (2) mengetahui proses (transactions) penyelenggaraan latihan UN, dan (3) mengetahui hasil (outcomes) penyelenggaraan latihan UN Mata Pelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Model evaluasi yang digunakan model Stake’s. Subjek yang digunakan (1) Dinas Pendidikan Kota Yogyakarta; (2) SMA Swasta ex-RSBI kelas XII di kota Yogyakarta. Teknik pengambilan sampel secara simple random sampling. Sumber data adalah Dinas Pendidikan Kota Yogyakarta, kepala sekolah, dan siswa. Hasil penelitian adalah (1) input (antecedents) penyelenggaraan latihan UN sudah baik dilihat dari dimensi persiapan penyelenggaraannya; (2) proses (transaction) penyelenggaraan latihan UN Mata Pelajaran Bahasa Inggris baik; (3) pada hasil (outcomes) menunjukkan analisis kualitas butir soal baik, terlihat dari tingkat kesukaran butir sedang (50%), daya beda baik (70%), distraktor berfungsi dengan baik (58%) dan reliabilitas butir termasuk tinggi (0,851). Latihan UN memberikan manfaat cukup baik dan tidak terdapat hambatan dalam penyelenggaraan latihan UN Mata Pelajaran Bahasa Inggris.Kata kunci: tryout, model Stake’s (antecedents, transactions dan outcomes), Bahasa Inggris. AN EVALUATION OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ENGLISH NATIONAL EXAMINATION EXERCISE AT EX-RSBI PRIVATE SMAAbstractThis study aims to (1) obtain the information of the input (antecedents) of English tryout (2) document the process (transactions) of the implementation, and (3) determine the results (outcomes) of the implementation of English tryout. Evaluation model that is used is the Stake’s model. The subjects in this research are (1) the Education Office of Yogyakarta; (2) the students of Ex RSBI Private SMA in Yogyakarta. The technique of selecting sampling was by stratified random sampling. The sources of the data at the Regency level is the Education Office of Yogyakarta, principals, and students. The results are (1) the input of the implementation is good if it is viewed from the dimensions of the preparation that include the orientation of question writing, committee, schedule and supervision; (2) process is good if it is viewed from the dimensions of the implementation that included security matter, objectivity of the implementation, and students’ perceptions; (3) results show that question items are good. It can be seen from the difficulty of each question that is in medium (50%), good different power (70%), the distractor is functioning properly (58%) and reliability in the high category (0.851). English tryout gives good benefits and there are no obstacles in the implementation of English tryout.Keywords: tryout, Stake’s model (antecedents, transactions and outcomes), English

Abstract

To improve the quality of education in terms of data analysis, a learning innovation is needed. Moreover, in learning statistics, the requirements for complicated calculations require an innovative product that can overcome these problems. The purpose of this research is to develop video tutorials on regression analysis to improve students' data analysis skills. The type of research that has been carried out uses RnD (Research and Development) research with a quantitative approach. The subjects of this study were students in two university as the site for the limited trial, and two university as the site for the large group trial. The analysis uses 2 designs: a pretest-posttest group design and a posttest-only design with a nonequivalent group. The results of this study indicate that video tutorials are suitable for students in carrying out simple linear regression analysis, and this research implies that students who use video tutorials in carrying out simple linear regression analysis have better skills than those who do not. Thus it can be concluded that video tutorials on regression analysis are able to improve students' data analysis skills.

Abstract

Developments in education highlight the need for conventional learning approaches to evolve in response to technological advances in digitally integrated learning, including hybrid or digital learning approaches. Digital-based teaching in higher education has begun to be implemented comprehensively, although it is still full of challenges. This study aims to determine students’ learning interest in digital-based instruction in the universities of East Kalimantan. It employed a purposive sample of 91 EFL students in their second and fourth semesters. This study reveals the potential for implementing digital-based instruction to support the increased interest in learning among EFL students in universities. It demonstrates the significance of digital learning as an adaptation of technological educational advances. However, implementing digital instruction in higher education is not effortless for students as end-users. Numerous students are resistant and unable to adjust to the shift towards online and digital learning. They tend not to participate actively in class and even ignore the material and assignments given. Therefore, these findings contribute to advancing future research on digital learning. They will also strengthen developments in digital learning based on user requirements and the learning context. In light of these findings, stakeholders in higher education need to make efforts to adjust the digital-based instruction applied to students’ abilities and needs, as well as the context of the lectures being held. Further research is required to incorporate a broader range of substantial participants and diverse data in order to attain a more comprehensive understanding of students’ learning interest in digital learning.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate issues of Indonesian EFL students’ writing skills, covering ability, problem and reason why they got problems in writing comparison and contrast essay. The convergent parallel of mixed methods was used to explore these issues by involving 52 EFL students of IAIN Samarinda who enrolled the academic essay writing course. The three research instruments; essay writing test, open-ended questionnaire and interview were used in the data collection. The findings of this study revealed that the Indonesian EFL students’ writing ability was good that categorized with the mean score 77.83. However, some of them encounter problems in writing aspects including content, organization, vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics. Their reasons in experiencing these problems are not only limited knowledge of writing aspects and comparison and contrast essay itself, but also they had own personal reasons; lack of writing practice, writing dislike, writing anxiety, negative writing perception, low writing motivation, insufficient time given in writing test, and also inadequate teaching writing process taught by their lecturers. Indeed, the teaching writing improvement that involved EFL students and lecturers should be well-integrated in order to alleviate the students’ essay writing problems related to their reasons and to improve their writing ability. Factors caused the writing difficulties will be discussed further and some suggestions will be given on this research.

Abstract

Asal – usul “ budaya” atau “kebudayaan” berasal dari bahasa sanskerta “buddhayah” yang merupakan bentuk jamak dari “buddhi” yang berarti budi atau akal. Istilah ini merujuk pada hal – hal yang berhubungan dengan budi dan akal manusia. Didalam bahasa inggris kebudayaan disebut “culture” yang berasal dari bahasa latin “ corel” yang memiliki arti mengolah atau mengerjaka. Kata ini juga sering diartikan sebagai mengolah tanah atau bertani. Terkadang kata “culture” juga diterjemahkan sebagai “kultur” dalam bahasa Indonesia.[1] Berkaitan dengan budaya di Samarinda Seberang terdapat budaya yang telah ada dari leluhur dan dilestarikan oleh masyarakat sekitar yaitu sarung tenun samarinda. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif. Sample yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah Purposive Sampling yang diamana peneliti menggunakan manusia sebagai populasi adalah para pengusaha sarung tenun Samarinda Seberang dan sample yang digunakan sebanyak tiga yaitu, observasi, wawancara dan studi literature. Sarung Tenun Samarinda juga sebagai usaha UMKM para warga Samarinda Seberang. Abstract

Pendidikan merupakan aset penting bagi kemajuan sebuah bangsa, oleh karena itu setiap warga negara harus dan wajib mengikuti jenjang pendidikan, baik jenjang pendidikan anak usia dini, pendidikan dasar, pendidikan menengah maupun tinggi. Dalam hal pendidikan, seorang anak memerlukan pelayanan yang tepat dalam pemenuhan kebutuhan pendidikan disertai dengan pemahaman mengenai karakteristik anak sesuai pertumbuhan dan perkembangannya. Hal tersebut akan sangat membantu dalam menyesuaikan proses belajar bagi anak dengan usia, kebutuhan dan kondisi masing-masing. Pendidikan seharusnya diberikan kepada anak usia dini, sehingga mereka dapat mengenali lingkungannya dengan cepat. Memberikan pendidikan anak pada usia dini diharapkan dapat mempersiapkan anak dalam menghadapi masa-masa yang akan datang. Dalam memberikan pendidikan anak pada usia dini tidak semata-mata turun tangan dari orang tua saja, namun juga dari lingkungan, masyarakat, maupun sekolah formal seperti didirikannya PAUD (Pendidikan Anak Usia Dini) dan TK (Taman Kanak-kanak). Di era globalisasi ini negara kita harus mampu melahirkan generasi cendekia yang mampu bersaing di dunia. Untuk dapat bersaing di taraf internasional kita harus dapat berkomunikasi secara internasional pula. Dengan adanya pembelajaran bahasa asing diharapkan mampu memupuk benih-benih generasi pendongkrak dunia. Di kota-kota besar di Indonesia telah banyak berdiri sekolah formal dalam hal pengembangan pendidikan anak pada usia dini. Sehingga mutu dan kualitas anak di kota besar sudah bagus. Namun lain hal dengan daerah yang jauh dari perkotaan, banyak sekolah yang belum dapat memberikan kualitas peendidikan dari segi berbahasa asing. Dengan akses menuju daerah perkotaan yang sulit, hal itu menjadi salah satu penghambat kemajuan pendidikan. Seperti di daerah Samarinda Seberang. Daerah ini adalah daerah yang memliki jarak jauh untuk akses ke kota, sehingga rata-rata anak hanya mendapatkan fasilitas Pendidikan dari sekolah saja. Setelah selesai sekolah kegiatan anak-anak hanya bermain, dan tidak ada kegiatan les tambahan lainnya. Melihat kondisi tersebut, anggota tim PkM dari fakultas Tarbiyah Jurusan TBI IAIN Samarinda merumuskan kegiatan PkM dengan tema “English Course For Kids” .
