Abstract

The growth of Liberica coffee in the 2-year immature plant phase can be improved by applying cytokinin-based plant growth regulators (PGRs) and topping. Toppings applied to plants can inhibit apical dominance, while cytokinin PGRs such as 6-Benzylaminopurine (BAP) and coconut water can stimulate plant shoot growth. This research aims to determine the effect of topping and PGR application on the vegetative growth of Liberica coffee plants. This experiment was carried out at the Ciparanje experimental field, Universitas Padjadjaran, West Java, with an elevation of ± 750 meters above sea level from March to June 2024. The experimental design used a randomized block design with six treatments: control (no topping and no added PGR), topping, topping + 60 ppm BAP, topping + 50% coconut water, 60 ppm BAP, and 50% coconut water. Each treatment was repeated four times. The results showed the best results were (a) topping treatments (topping, topping+coconut water, and topping+BAP) on canopy width and primary branch length; and (b) a combination of 50% coconut water and 60 ppm BAP on increasing the number of branches. This study provides information on efficient maintenance methods for Liberica coffee plant growth in the immature phase.

Abstract

 Drought stress is a major limiting factor affecting the growth, yield, and quality of tea (Camellia sinensis). The present study aimed to analyze the success of post-drought growth recovery of tea in response to different techniques and doses of biofertilizer applications. Field experiments were conducted from January to August 2024 in the experimental garden of the Research Institute for Tea and Cinchona, Gambung Blok A8, Bandung. This work was arranged in a split-plot design, consisting of a main plot with two biofertilizer application techniques (foliar feeding and soil drenching) and subplots with four levels of biofertilizer dosage (control (B1), 15 L ha-¹ (B2), 22.5 L ha-¹ (B3), and 30 L ha-¹ (B4), with three replications. The results showed a significant interaction of biofertilizer dose and technique on shoot dry weight and plant growth rate of tea. There was an independent effect of biofertilizer dose on leaf area ratio. Applying a biofertilizer dose of 15 L ha-1 through soil drenching produced the best plant growth rate and shoot dry weight at the 6th harvest.

Abstract

Ubi Cilembu merupakan hasil bumi asli yang berasal dari kabupaten Sumedang. Walaupun berasal dari daerah setempat, tetapi masyarakat sekitar terutama generasi remaja yang lebih senang untuk mengonsumsi makanan-makanan junk food yang umumnya berasal dari luar negeri. Ubi Cilembu kalah populer dibandingkan dengan makanan asing padahal Ubi Cilembu memiliki rasa yang manis dan khasiat yang banyak.Kegiatan ini bertujuan tidak lain untuk "mempopulerkan" ubi Cilembu dikalangan anak remaja melalui sosialisasi yang dilakukan di SMA PLUS AL-Falah Jatinangor, Desa Cileles, Kecamatan Jatinangor, Kabupaten Sumedang, dengan metode penyampaian berupa penyuluhan kepada siswa-siswi SMA Plus AL-Falah kelas 11, disertai dengan adanya test yang diakukan untuk menilai apakah materi tersebut sudah tersampaikan dengan baik. Berdasarkan hasil dari test yang dilakukan, menunjukkan bahwa pengetahuan para siswa-siswi bertambah setelah dilakukannya penyuluhan. Penyuluhan ini diharapkan dapat menambah minatremaja untuk mengkonsumsi ubi Cilembu dan menjadikan ubi Cilembu sebagai salah satu komoditas usaha tani lokal unggulan.

Abstract

Ketahanan pangan merupakan isu strategis yang membutuhkan perhatian sejak dini, terutama di kalangan generasi muda. Kelompok mahasiswa OKK RK204  dari Universitas Padjadjaran melaksanakan aksi sosial bertajuk "Siapkan Generasi Mandiri melalui Aksi Gemar Menanam" (SIGMA) di SDN Cikuda, Jatinangor, Sumedang pada November 2024. Kegiatan ini bertujuan meningkatkan pemahaman siswa kelas lima (5) tentang ketahanan pangan melalui edukasi hidroponik sederhana. Metode yang digunakan bersifat edukatif dan partisipatif, melibatkan 35 siswa dengan pendekatan experiential learning. Rangkaian kegiatan mencakup pre-test, storytelling menggunakan media wayang, pemaparan materi, praktik penanaman hidroponik, dan post-test. Siswa dibimbing untuk membuat tanaman hidroponik menggunakan botol plastik bekas, yang sekaligus mendukung upaya pengurangan sampah plastik. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan pengetahuan siswa, dengan lebih dari 90% siswa mampu menjawab pertanyaan post-test dengan benar. Monitoring berkelanjutan selama empat minggu memastikan keberlanjutan praktik penanaman. Kegiatan ini berkontribusi pada tujuan pembangunan berkelanjutan, khususnya Zero Hunger, Quality Education, dan Climate Action. Program SIGMA membuktikan bahwa edukasi ketahanan pangan dapat efektif dilakukan melalui pendekatan praktis, interaktif, dan menyenangkan bagi anak usia sekolah dasar.

Abstract

Mekarjaya Village, Banjaran District, Bandung Regency, is one of the best coffee producers in West Java. The location at the bottom of Mount Puntang makes this area dominated by coffee cultivation. The coffee bean production process also impacts the accumulation of coffee waste because half of the coffee cherries are mostly not used as a commercial products. Community service in the form of processing coffee skin waste is needed to deal with the problem of coffee waste and increase its added value. One derivative product that is starting to be in demand from coffee skins is coffee skin tea or cascara. Community service was implemented from January 2023 to March 2023 at the people's coffee farmers in Mekarjaya Village, Banjaran District, Bandung Regency. The method has several stages: area surveys, product demonstration plots, socialization, and evaluation. The regional survey results show that the area has great potential to process coffee waste as cascara. Based on the results of the pre-test, showed that coffee farmers did not know about cascara and its benefits. Meanwhile, after the socialization, the farmers understood and were interested in developing cascara products as one of the commercial uses of coffee waste. Abstract

Jagung pulut merupakan salah satu komoditas pangan berpotensi yang memiliki kandungan amilopektin dan tekstur pulen yang unik. Pengembangan jagung pulut masih sangat terbatas di Indonesia. Sebaran komoditas ini lebih banyak di wilayah Indonesia Tengah dan Timur sehingga pengenalan sistem budidaya dan pemasaran jagung pulut di wilayah Barat Indonesia sangat dianjurkan. Pengabdian masyarakat dilakukan kepada para ibu kader PKK di Dusun Cikeyep, Desa Sindang Sari, Kecamatan Sukasari, Kabupaten Sumedang, Jawa Barat. Metode pengabdian berupa penyuluhan, pembuatan demplot, dan kerjasama dalam pemasaran produk. Hasil pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini meningkatkan pengetahuan para wanita wanita tani terkait informasi pada penyuluhan dan sisi praktis melalui demplot. Produk olahan dari jagung pulut di desa tersebut juga sudah mulai dibuat dan dikaji sisi pemasarannya. Pengembangan jagung pulut dapat terus dikembangkan untuk meningkatkan nilai nutrisi dan ekonomi di masyarakat.

Abstract

Kecamatan Jati Gede merupakan salah satu wilayah terdampak pembangunan waduk Jati Gede sehingga pembangunan harus dilakukan kembali untuk meningkatkan taraf hidup masyarakat termasuk siswa-siswi SMPS Bina Harapan Jati Gede. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk “menghijaukan” lahan SMPS Bina Harapan Jati Gede dengan system tanam multiple cropping antara tanaman kopi berbagai species dengan tanaman yang telah ada. Metodenya berupa penyuluhan pada siswa SMPS Bina Harapan kelas 8, penanaman, pemeliharaan tanaman dan test. Hasil menunjukkan pengetahuan para siswa yang bertambah setelah penyuluhan serta pertanaman kopi yang terpelihara dengan baik. Sistem tana mini diharapkan dapat diterapkan sebagai usaha pemanfaatan lahan dan menjadikan para siswa terbiasa dan menyenangi pertanian.

Abstract

The diversity of arthropod communities is often used as a bioindicator of environmental changes, specifically in coffee farms with various management systems. Significant impacts of the environmental changes lead to alterations in the community structure and function of arthropods. The aim of this research was to determine the diversity and ecological roles of insect and arachnids in arabica coffee plantations in Bandung Regency. Sampling was conducted on five plots measuring 100 m2 each, with a separating distance of 50 m, in coffee farms located in Legok Nyenang Village, Bandung Regency. This was performed five times per weekly intervals using sweep nets, yellow tray traps, and beating sheets. Subsequently, collected samples were identified based on morphological characters at the Pest Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Padjadjaran University. A total of 269 insects species (11 orders and 98 families, total 669 individuals) and 23 species of Arachnida (one order and 13 families, total 44 individuals) were found, The most abundance of natural enemies were the parasitoid, Megacampsomeris prismatica (Hymenoptera: Scoliidae) and the predator, Tetragnatha sp. (Araneae: Tetragnathidae). Meanwhile, the ecological function of the group with the lowest number was pollinators (Hymenoptera: Apidae). Although the diversity of insects and arachnids species found in coffee farms was high (H' = 5.10), the evenness and dominance index were relatively low. These results showed the potential of coffee plantations as ecosystems for conserving predatory arthropods biodiversity. Consequently, coffee cultivation practices and pest management strategies must prioritize the protection of beneficial insects such as natural enemies and pollinators.
