Abstract

Shorea spp. is one of the most widely used wood types by the community. In addition to the economic value of wood, the Shorea group also has a non-timber economic value. Plants need sunlight for growth and development. The intensity of light is one of the most important factors in the process of photosynthesis to produce energy as fuel for plant growth. Shade can be interpreted as a shelter or something that can protect plants from excessive direct sunlight. Shorea leprosula Miq. is a type of semi-tolerant plant that needs shade. In this study, we will try to apply the science of Agroforestry, which is a combination of plantation and forestry plants, by planting red meranti seedlings under the auspices of oil palm stands by paying attention to the direction of the source of sunlight. The method used in this study is a randomized block design (RCBD), which consists of 5 treatments and 4 groups. This study uses 5 treatments with different light source directions, namely A0 (Shade without Shade or control), A1 (Position of seedlings in the East), A2 (Position of seedlings in the North), A3 (Position of seedlings in the South) and A4 (Position of seedlings in the West). The direction of the light source  the position of seedlings in the south under the auspices of oil palm stands turn out to be better for plant growth because it gets a long period of light exposure from morning to evening. Keywords : source direction,sunlight,growth, Shorea leprosula Miq., shade, oil palm stand.

Abstract

Revegetation is an effort to restore peatland after it is damaged. Dyera lowii is a type of forestry plant has a high potential to be developed because this tree is suitable for planting on peatland. To get good growth of Dyera lowii nutrients are needed, one of which is by providing compost. The solid waste of the sago industry that has accumulated will experience decomposition so that it becomes compost. The purpose of this research is to determine effect and the best dosage of sago dreg compost of Metroxylon sagu on the growth of Dyera lowii on peat media. The study used a Completely Randomized Design method consisting of 4 treatments and 4 replications so that 16 units of the experiment would be obtained. The treatments are : S1 = without Metroxylon sagu compost, S2 = 20% Metroxylon sagu compost + 80% peat soil, S3 = 50% Metroxylon sagu compost + 50% peat soil, S4 = 80% Metroxylon sagu compost + 20% peat soil. Data further analyzed using variance, with SPSS software version 20.0. If the results of variance have a significant effect, then further analysis is done using the DNMRT test at the 5% level. Application of sago dreg compost of Metroxylon sagu influences the growth of swamp Dyera lowii and the best dosage of the four treatments were S1 treatment (20% + 80% Metroxylon sagu compost) with 95% survival rate, 0.83 cm height increase, and plant dry weight 0.60 gr. Keywords: Metroxylon sagu compost, Dyera lowii  Hook.f, peat media

Abstract

Acacia mangium Willd. classified as plants that require nutrients are complete and available or Nutrient demanding crop, althought for grow and evolve requires a lot of nutrients that one of them is the phosphorus element. Phosphorusis needed absorption of nutrientsb by increasing the number of nodules on the roots so as to increase plant growth. The fertilization is o.0ne way that can be done to fulfill the availability of soil nutrients that plants need. The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of phosphorus fertilizer application on acacia seedlings in topsoil medium, determine the best dose to the growth of seedlings of acacia and check the availability of phosphorus in the soil at this seedling. This research uses a completely randomize design method which consist of 4 treatments and 10 replications. T0 = without phosphorus fertilizer; T1 = 20 g/polybag ; T2= 25 g/polybag ; T3 = 30 g/polybag ;.The resultsof this research indicates thatthe phosphorus fertilizer with 25 g / polybag dose on top soil medium is the best treatment in the parameter of observations, the high increasing (9.36 cm), the diameter increasing (1.19 mm)for seedling Acacia mangium Willd. in topsoil medium. Giving  of phosphorus fertilizer can increase soil pH (4.56), P-bray (527.66 mg / kg) and P-total (7000.1 mg / kg) the availability increasing of phosphorus in the soil for growth seedlings Acacia mangium Willd. Abstract

Area surround  forest have community’s Betung village, Pangkalan Kuras District Pelalawan regency to have all various of sialang tree. As to various of tree mention between other Shorea sp, Dipterocarpus cofertus Sloot, Artocarpus maingayi, Koompassia excels Taub, Koompassia malaccensis and Gluta aptera. However sialang tree don’t manage in this area surround forest by community. The community more important oil palm of management equal sialang tree of management. This research purpose to know management system of sialang tree with this  forest area and compare contribution and out put can from sialang tree of management and oil palm of management using Purpossive sampling technique. Result showed that sialang tree of management and taking  honey’s bee don’t treatment again. Because many of sialang tree don’t perch so that produced honey’s bee little. Based on analitycal hierarchy process, sialang tree given contribution and out put more good equal with oil palm. Because to out put can from sialang tree maximum if his work long time equal out put can from oil palm maximum if his work long time and out of cost maximum. Abstract

Teknologi pengawetan kayu dengan metode infus dan bandage-wrapping pada pohon berdiri yang masih hidup merupakan metode baru dalam pengawetan kayu. Metode ini memiliki keunggulan dapat mengawetkan kayu berukuran besar secara mudah. Kayu utuh berukuran besar dibutuhkan untuk bahan baku pembuatan Jalur, yaitu, perahu tradisional khas daerah Riau. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh perlakuan pengawetan kayu pada pohon berdiri terhadap karakteristik kayu, terutama sifat kimia dan sifat mekanisnya. Masing-masing sebanyak dua pohon dari jenis kayu alternatif bahan baku pembuatan Jalur yaitu Bintangur (Callophyllum soulattri Burm.f.) dan Balam (Macaranga conifera (Rch.f. & Zoll) Mull.Arg) diawetkan menggunakan senyawa boron dengan metode infus dan bandage-wrapping. Sebagai kontrol, satu pohon dari masing-masing jenis juga ditebang dan diuji. Sampel kayu yang digunakan dibagi menurut posisi aksial pohon (pangkal, tengah, dan ujung) untuk diamati sifat kimia dan sifat mekanis dengan masing-masing tiga ulangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa posisi aksial mempengaruhi sifat kimia kayu Balam dan Bintangur secara siginifikan pada kadar lignin (30-36%) dan kadar alfa selulosa (48-52%). Secara umum, sifat mekanis yaitu Modulus of Rupture (MOR) dan Modulus of Elasticity (MOE) meningkat secara signifikan setelah diawetkan, kecuali pada Bintangur untuk metode bandage-wrapping. Hasil analisis sidik ragam dan uji lanjut menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan infus memberikan pengaruh nyata yang positif terhadap sifat kimia dan mekanis kayu Bintangur, sehingga pohon Bintangur yang telah diawetkan menggunakan metode infus dapat direkomendasikan sebagai alternatif bahan baku pembuatan Jalur.

Abstract

Swietenia mahagoni is thetype of plant that fast growing. Swietenia mahagoni usefull ranging from seeds, leaves and stems. Society in general just let Swietenia mahagoni seeds to grow naturally without treatment to the seeds. The best seed treatment is by using plants that contain a disinfectant or antiseptic and easly found around the environment, including the Piper betle Linn. This study aimed to determined the soaking effect of Swietenia mahagoni seeds in Piper betle Linn. water toward of seed quality and determined the best time term of long soaked seeds in Piper betle Linn. water to keep seed quality. This research compiled in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatment and 4 replications. Treatment consists of soaking the seeds for 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes and 40 minutes. Data were analyzed by Analysis Of Variance (ANOVA), than continued with DNMRT double distance test at 5% level. The result showed that the soaking of Swietenia mahagoni seeds affect the quality of seeds, proved by the percentage of seeds germinated better. The best seed soaking times is 40 minutes with the percentage of germination 85,5%, speed germination 14,98 days and seedling height 11,29 cm.Keywords: Swietenia mahagoni, Piper betle Linn., Seed Quality

Abstract

Wildlife Reserve is a forest sanctuary to live wildlife which has a typical value and benefit to science and culture as well as a wealth and national pride. The condition of Kerumutan wildlife reserve region have been damaged, as it was need research on disturbances in the area ofwildlife reserve and approach to society to determine public perceptions in the completion of disruption that occurred in the area. Kerumutan Wildlife Reserve (WR) designated as protected areas by decree of the Minister of Agriculture No. 350/Kpts/II/6/1979.When designated size of the area is 120.000 ha. Once delineated, size of the area is 92.000 ha area with an additional 93.222 ha of land. Disruption that occurred last five years over is the disruption of illegal logging. Disturbance such wildlife hunting is no longer exist because it has maximal treatment used such arrest of the perpetrators and the container of fauna and alsothere was a difficulty of marketing on fauna. The disturbance of forest fires and land from the information obtained by the people and related offices occurred in the border area of  Kerumutan wildlife reserve. Forest and land fires are not happen within the region Kerumutan Wildlife reserve. As an alternative solution based on the perception of of society is the approach of the government to society, education or socialization of management policies and the society participated in the surveillance area, maximizing existing regulatory and human resources development.Keywords: Wildlife Reserve, Illegal logging, Society

Abstract

The aim of the research are 1) to identify local wisdom Rumbio forest communities to the forest protection and forest management, 2) to determine Rumbio communitites strategies on the management of sustainable forest at protected ban forest. This research was conducted at Rumbio village, Kampar regency, Riau Province. The local communities of forest Rumbio subject is to certain characteristics. Major characteristics subject is local communities Rumbio, Kampar. This research was carried out using method survey. Data were taken by using Snowball sampling technique which is nine informant as samples. Data were analyzed using Descriptive Analysis. Result showed that 1) a. local wisdom has been applied in the communities at ban forest and there are some regulation that should follow by communities such as like not to cut trees at ban forest or held and activity that may harm the forest it self, b. local wisdom for asking communities to plant the trees and build houses at appropriate places, 2) Forest protection strategies in ban Rumbio forest are: a) build security posts, established of the Rural Forestry Extension Centers (RFEC), greening, monitoring and sanctions for people who break the rules, b) kind of effort to keep ban forest and sustain the forest is choosing at the forest and communities garden, c) form of socialization customs regulations Rumbio is notification to young children as the next generation of indigenous communities through involvement in the traditional procession, announcements in indigenous associations.   Key Words: local wisdom, local communities Rumbio, forest protection

Abstract

Bagasse is a waste which is usually dumped in open dumping without any further processing, so it will cause an enviromental disturbance. It is important to apply a technology to overcome the waste by using the recycle of solid waste into a use value of compost product. Top soil has been hard to find, because it is used continously in long time or has been eroded which cause the decreasing of avalaiblity. Alternative to avoid the decreasing of soil media quality, so the use of compost is predicted to increase the supply of soil nutrient. The purpose of this research is to determine the effect  of composting formulated bagasse for Acacia crassicarpa seedlings in top soil medium and to determine the best dose for seedling growth Acacia crassicarpa. This research uses a completely randomize design method which consist of 5 treatments, 4 replications, and 5 units of the plant as a research unit. P0 = without composting  formulated bagasse ; P1 = 25 g/polybag ; P2= 50 g/polybag ; P3 = 75 g/polybag ; p4 = 100 g/polybag. The result of this research indicates that  the composting formulated bagasse with 100 g/polybag dose is the best treatment in the parameter observations, the high increasing (36.45 cm), the diameter increasing (0.37 mm), the seedling dry weight (11.93 g), and the ratio of the root crown (6.40) for seedling Acacia crassicarpa in top soil medium.
