Abstract

This study aimed to characterize the morphological and agronomic traits of five local tomato accessions from Kutoarjo (A, B, C, D, and E) as a foundation for plant breeding programs. The experiment was conducted using a randomized complete block design with six replications. Observations included qualitative and quantitative characters based on the IPGRI and UPOV descriptor guidelines. The analysis results proved that vegetative traits, such as plant height, stem diameter, and leaf size, did not show significant differences among the accessions. In contrast, generative traits (days to flowering, fruit size, productivity, and seed weight) showed highly significant differences. The Kutoarjo E accession exhibited the best agronomic performance with a productivity of 2.20 kg/plant, 67.83 fruits/plant, and a 1000-seed weight of 3.47 g. In conclusion, these local tomato accessions possess phenotypic and agronomic variations with great potential for sustainable utilization as basic breeding materials.

Abstract

Bird’s eye chili (Capsicum frutescens L.) is one of the most popular chili types in Indonesia. It contains valuable nutritional components, particularly vitamin C at a concentration of 11 mg per 10 grams of sample. The development of new varieties is undertaken to improve the genetic quality of chili plants, thereby producing cultivars with higher productivity and more stable yields. This study aims to obtain the morphological characteristics and specific distinguishing features of the bird’s eye chili candidate variety RTJHL. The research was conducted using a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with one factor consisting of four variety treatments. These varieties included RTJHL as the candidate test variety, and three comparison varieties: Abayomi from Halbanero, O’Ertavi from Halbanero, and Brengos-99 from Benih Kelud Nusantara. Morphological traits were analysed descriptively based on the Guidelines for Conducting Tests of Distinctness, Uniformity, and Stability (DUS) in chili. The result revealed that superior traits identified as distinguishing characteristics of the bird’s eye chili candidate variety RTJHL were the number of flower petals and the number of fruit locules.

Abstract

Semangka (Citrullus lanatus L.) merupakan komoditas hortikultura bernilai ekonomi tinggi, namun ketersediaan benih hibrida unggul masih menjadi kendala dalam peningkatan produksi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh waktu petik bunga jantan dan lama pemeraman terhadap viabilitas polen, keberhasilan polinasi, dan produksi benih hibrida semangka tipe dragon. Penelitian dilaksanakan di PT Tani Murni Indonesia, Sleman, Yogyakarta menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok Lengkap (RAKL) faktorial dengan dua faktor, yaitu waktu petik bunga jantan pada pukul 14.00 WIB, 15.00 WIB, dan 16.00 WIB serta lama pemeraman selama 16, 17, dan 18 jam. Parameter yang diamati meliputi viabilitas polen, persentase keberhasilan polinasi, berat buah, jumlah biji per buah, berat biji per buah, dan daya berkecambah benih. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa waktu petik bunga jantan berpengaruh nyata terhadap viabilitas polen, dimana viabilitas tertinggi diperoleh pada pemetikan pukul 14.00 WIB sebesar 98,82%. Interaksi antara waktu petik dan lama pemeraman berpengaruh nyata terhadap keberhasilan polinasi dan daya berkecambah benih. Kombinasi pemetikan pukul 14.00 WIB dengan pemeraman 16 jam menghasilkan keberhasilan polinasi tertinggi sebesar 96,46%, sedangkan kombinasi pemetikan pukul 15.00 WIB dengan pemeraman 17 jam menghasilkan daya berkecambah tertinggi sebesar 100%. Perlakuan tidak memberikan pengaruh nyata terhadap berat buah, jumlah biji per buah, dan berat biji per buah. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa sinkronisasi waktu pemetikan bunga jantan dan lama pemeraman yang tepat dapat meningkatkan efektivitas polinasi serta kualitas benih pada produksi benih hibrida semangka.

Abstract

Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) is an important horticultural crop with high economic value and broad morphological diversity, particularly in fruit traits. This study aimed to characterize the morphological diversity of an F2 eggplant population a Pyriform-fruited, evaluate phenotypic segregation based on qualitative traits, and identify promising lines for breeding programs. The study was conducted from November 2025 to March 2026 at the Teaching Factory Celeban Experimental Field, Politeknik Pembangunan Pertanian Yogyakarta Magelang, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The plant materials consisted of 155 F2 individuals and three genotypes, TEV 01, TEV 02, and TB 412, used as references. Observations were conducted on 17 qualitative traits based on UPOV descriptors. Data were analyzed descriptively using frequency distributions and percentages, followed by UPGMA cluster analysis. The F2 population exhibited broad morphological diversity in vegetative, floral, and fruit traits. Dominant traits were Pyriform fruit shape (55%), dark purple fruit skin color (51%), spineless calyx (72%), absence of fruit grooves (55%), and straight fruit curvature (69%). Cluster analysis grouped the population into five major clusters at 70% similarity. Six promising lines were identified: 43-24, 48-8, 48-18, 92-5, 107-20, and 107-25. Abstract

Abstract Rice productivity in Bendosari Village, Bendosari District, Sukoharjo Regency has not yet reached its optimal potential amounting to 31.10 million tons, despite the regular implementation of agricultural extension activities (BPS, 2024). This condition indicates the need to evaluate the implementation of agricultural extension to determine its contribution to improving rice productivity. This study aimed to analyze the implementation of agricultural extension, including extension materials, extension methods, extension media, and extension resources, and to examine their influence on rice productivity. The research employed a quantitative approach using descriptive and correlational research designs. The study population consisted of 82 rice farmers from two farmer groups, with a sample of 30 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires, structured interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression with the assistance of SPSS software. The results showed that the implementation of agricultural extension and rice productivity were both categorized as high, with an average productivity score of 82.38%. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that extension materials, extension methods, and extension resources had a positive and significant effect on rice productivity, whereas extension media had no significant effect. Simultaneously, the four variables explained 77.7% of the variation in rice productivity, with extension resources identified as the most influential factor affecting rice productivity.

Abstract

Program urban farming merupakan sarana yang efektif untuk mendukung kemandirian pangan melalui peningkatan akses dan ketersediaan pangan serta pengurangan ketergantungan pada pasokan luar. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis efektivitas program urban farming dan pengaruhnya terhadap tingkat kemandirian pangan pada anggota Kelompok Tani Gemah Ripah Bausasran. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan analisis deskriptif kuantitatif dengan metode survei, wawancara dan kuesioner terhadap 27 anggota aktif dan dianalisis menggunakan regresi linear berganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa implementasi program tergolong efektif dengan capaian tinggi pada seluruh variabel, yaitu keberhasilan program (80,40%), pencapaian tujuan (82,41%), keberhasilan sasaran (78,70%), kepuasan terhadap program (80,25%), serta tingkat input dan output (78,47%). Tingkat kemandirian pangan anggota juga berada pada kategori tinggi (77,89%), meskipun masih bersifat parsial. Secara simultan, seluruh variabel berpengaruh signifikan terhadap tingkat kemandirian pangan (Sig. 0,000; Adjusted R² 0,598), sedangkan secara parsial hanya kepuasan terhadap program yang berpengaruh signifikan (Sig. 0,037). Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa urban farming berjalan efektif, namun masih memerlukan penguatan pada aspek partisipasi anggota sejak tahap perencanaan, peningkatan integrasi hasil panen ke dalam pola konsumsi anggota, pemerataan pemahaman teknis program, peningkatan kualitas dan kuantitas hasil panen, serta optimalisasi penggunaan lahan, sarana, dan teknologi budidaya, untuk mendukung kemandirian pangan berkelanjutan.

Abstract

The development of superior cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) varieties requires the identification of distinctive morphological characteristics and superior agronomic performance to support cultivar selection and release. This study aimed to identify the morphological characteristics and evaluate the agronomic superiority of four candidate F1 hybrid cucumber varieties for fresh consumption compared with one commercial check variety. The experiment was conducted from February to May 2026 at PT. Tani Murni Jogja using a non-factorial Randomized Complete Block Design with five treatments and four replications. Morphological traits were evaluated descriptively according to the Distinctness, Uniformity, and Stability (DUS) testing guidelines, whereas agronomic traits were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by the 5% Honestly Significant Difference (HSD) test. The results revealed morphological variation in leaf orientation, young fruit spine density, fruit base shape, and fruit tip shape, while the remaining traits were relatively uniform among the tested genotypes. Variety significantly affected most agronomic traits, including stem length, stem diameter, leaf length, leaf width, flowering age, fruit length, fruit diameter, flesh thickness, number of fruits per plant, and fruit weight. Among the tested genotypes, TL-03 and TL-04 exhibited the most balanced agronomic performance and are considered the most promising candidates for further evaluation and development as superior fresh-market cucumber varieties.Keywords: Cucumber, morphological characterization, agronomic traits, F1 hybrid, superior variety

Abstract

This study evaluated the morphological and agronomic diversity of five local eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) accessions originating from Palembang (TR1), Kalimantan (TR2), Purbalingga (TR3), Riau (TR4), and Malang (TR5). The experiment was conducted at the Celeban Teaching Factory, Polbangtan Yogyakarta–Magelang, using a randomized complete block design with five replications. The morphological traits evaluated are plant growth habit, stem anthocyanin intensity, stem pubescence, leaf shape and lobing, flower color, fruit shape, fruit apex shape, calyx spines, fruit surface glossiness, fruit skin and flesh color, and fruit markings. The agronomic traits measured included plant height, stem diameter, leaf length and width, fruit length and diameter, number of fruits per plant, individual fruit weight, days to flowering, and days to harvest. The results showed considerable variation among the five accessions for most morphological and agronomic traits. TR1 exhibited the greatest plant height, whereas TR2 had the largest leaves, thickest stems, widest fruits, and highest individual fruit weight. TR3 produced the highest number of fruits per plant, while TR4 had the greatest fruit lengthTR5 showed the lowest plant height and fruit number. The identified variation provides valuable information for germplasm conservation and collection with desirable agronomic and market-oriented characteristics.

Abstract

Tujuan kajian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pola kemitraan yang dilakukan oleh Koperasi Milenial Petani Kreatif Yogyakarta (KOMPAKYO) dan alternatif strategi kemitraan berbasis agrosociopreneur pada KOMPAKYO. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Oktober 2024 – Maret 2025 di Kalurahan Sumberharjo, Kapanewon Prambanan, Kabupaten Sleman. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi, dokumentasi, dan Focus Group Discussion (FGD). Informan yang dilibatkan pada penelitian ini sebanyak 12 informan. Hasil penelitian menunjukk-an pola kemitraan yang terjadi antara KOMPAKYO dengan petani padi organik Kalurahan Sumberharjo yaitu pola kemitraan inti plasma, KOMPAKYO sebagai perusahaan inti dan petani sebagai kelompok plasma. Proses kemitraan yang berjalan terdapat unsur keterlibatan agrosociopreneur, komunikasi dan kepemimpinan memberikan dampak untuk mengendalikan perilaku mitra sesuai dengan yang diinginkan serta mampu memberikan pengaruh yang menguntungkan. Analisis SWOT menunjukkan bahwa terdapat faktor internal berupa 7 kekuatan dan 5 kelemahan, serta faktor eksternal berupa 5 peluang dan 5 ancaman yang mempengaruhi proses kemitraan berbasis agrosociopreneur. Alternatif strategi yang diperoleh dari hasil analisis SWOT yaitu strategi W-O (Weakness-Opportunity) diperlukan upaya meningkatkan motivasi petani padi organik dalam peningkatan produktivitas padi organik melalui inovasi penyuluh dan perusahaan mitra.

Abstract

This study explores the use of embryo culture as a strategic approach to rescue maize (Zea mays L.) embryos derived from interspecific crosses that fail to develop normally. Not all crosses result in viable seeds; in many cases, embryos remain immature or undergo developmental arrest, which increases the risk of embryo abortion before they can develop into complete plants. Embryo development failure in maize crosses, especially in combinations involving genetically distant genotypes, represents a major constraint in plant breeding programs. Without appropriate intervention, the resulting hybrid genotypes may be lost and consequently slow down the development of new superior varieties. To address this limitation, immature embryo culture represents an effective in vitro technique. Embryo culture involves the excision of young or incompletely developed plant embryos from seeds or ovaries and their subsequent cultivation on nutrient-rich artificial media to support further growth and plant regeneration. The objective of this study was to identify the optimal Murashige and Skoog (MS)-based culture medium composition for immature maize embryo growth using a factorial completely randomized design with three replications. Treatments consisted of combinations of agar concentration (4, 6, 8, and 10 g L⁻¹) and medium strength (0.5 MS, 0.75 MS, and 1 MS). The results indicated no significant interaction between MS medium strength and agar concentration. 1 MS medium produced the best results for shoot height, root length, and root number, whereas 0.75 MS medium resulted in the highest germination percentage. No significant differences were observed among treatments for days to germination and leaf number. An agar concentration of 6 g L⁻¹ yielded the highest germination percentage and shoot height, while other variables were not significantly affected by agar concentration. In conclusion, 1 MS medium or an agar concentration of 6 g L⁻¹ can be recommended for the culture of immature maize embryos
