Abstract

This study aimed to determine the performance of tourism investment and trade in Indonesia following the outbreak of COVID-19 and other economic and non-economic factors. Goods and services for Indonesian tourism from 8 sample countries over 26 years were examined using a tourism economy approach and a gravity panel model of the flow of investment and trade. Regarding research originality, the model developed is constructing tourism economic theory applying the Keynesian method. The results showed that economic factors, such as GDP per capita, interest rates, exchange rates, prices, and economic distance, and non-economic factors, such as population, travel alerts, and pandemics, significantly affect investment flows and the tourism trade. Furthermore, tourism competitiveness increased globally in 2019. However, potential economic leakage in FDI and trade were identified. As a result, the government must emphasize long-term and efficient investment and trade in the tourism sector, particularly in the context of systemic shocks such as a pandemic.JEL Classification: C58, D58, Z32, Z38How to Cite:Singagerda, F. Abstract

Our article investigated how to create a design for smart tourism applications that focused on the values felt by tourists, specifically on the valuable experiences encountered by tourists during destinations such as accessibility, amenities, available packages, activities, and additional services, in order to assess the successful management of a tourist destination. Whereas the methodology applied in this research is Design Science Research (DSR), which is used to overcome a problem by designing a tool to address the issue, the major challenge that is frequently experienced by visitors in tourism studies is the convenience and completeness of information about tourist destinations. The theoretical contribution of the research might provide to the capacity in the study of tourist behavior, which is associated primarily with tourist satisfaction with a specific tourist destination based on previous experience and information. Whereas practically, the research will assist tourism managers in developing architectural designs of service tools to help tourist destination management in making decisions based on the requirements and preferences of tourists during their visit. Based on our findings, we recommend that tourist destinations should create dynamic platforms that mediate STT in order to respond to tourist demands. Tourists will appreciate their vacation more because the travel service experience is improved. Thus, providing information more accessible, constructing integrated information systems, and creating a technologically friendly environment would increase tourist participation and actually contribute to the overall travel experience.

Considering daily Covid-19 confirmed cases from the United States and China, as well as the Stock Indexes of the United States, China, and Indonesia from January 1, 2020 to October 30, 2020. The results demonstrate that the total active instances of Covid-19 in the United States (USAC) have a positive impact on the Indonesian Financial Market Index (JKFINA). It is indicated by a decline in primary industry and its contribution to economic growth, which has impacted on China's raw material export to Indonesia. Many corporations have dropped, causing issues with the banking industry and, as a result, a negative influence on the Indonesian Financial Stock Index (JKFINA). Given these conditions, the Indonesian government must fully support the activities of small, medium, and large businesses in order to maintain and promote Indonesia's export activities, provide simplicity in export permits, accelerate the export licensing process, and pay more attention to the rules set by the US. Due to the restriction of raw material supply from China, Indonesia needs to be able to optimize its own resources

Abstract

This study applies Monte Carlo simulation to analyze and compare the Value at Risk (VaR) of two Indonesian airline stocks—PT Garuda Indonesia (full-service carrier) and PT AirAsia Indonesia (low-cost carrier)—using daily return data from January to December 2023. The research examines risk-return characteristics at individual stock and portfolio levels across different confidence intervals (99%, 95%, and 90%). Results reveal that PT Garuda Indonesia exhibits higher expected returns (0.5168%) but also higher volatility (3.5980%) compared to PT AirAsia Indonesia (0.2412% return, 2.4868% volatility), reflecting their different business models. Remarkably, an equal-weight portfolio demonstrates extraordinary diversification benefits, with positive VaR values across all confidence levels, indicating robust downside protection even in adverse market conditions. At 99% confidence, the monetary VaR for a Rp100,000,000 investment shows potential maximum losses of Rp7,984,331 for Garuda and Rp5,460,951 for AirAsia, while the portfolio generates a minimum gain of Rp1,886,373. This study highlights the effectiveness of Monte Carlo VaR in capturing complex risk dynamics, demonstrates significant intra-sector diversification benefits challenging conventional diversification wisdom, and provides insights into how different airline business models translate into distinctive risk-return profiles. These findings have important implications for investment decision-making and risk management in specialized industry contexts, particularly in emerging markets.
