Abstract

Digital literacy is important to support students' writing skills in the era of technological development, especially in learning descriptive text. This study aims to analyze the application and evaluation of digital literacy in improving the descriptive text writing skills of grade X students of SMK Negeri 1 Surakarta. The method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through pretests, socialization, posttests, observations, interviews, and documentation. The pretest and posttest were not calculated statistically, but only analyzed descriptively. The research subjects consisted of 35 students and 1 Indonesian language teacher. The results showed that the application of digital literacy through media such as PowerPoint, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and educational games was able to improve students' writing skills. Improvements were seen in aspects of text structure, choice of diction, coherence, and completeness of content. In addition, students also showed an increase in learning independence and motivation during learning. However, there were several obstacles, such as limited internet access and supporting facilities. Overall, the application of digital literacy has proven effective in improving students' descriptive text writing skills, although it still requires adequate infrastructure support to run optimally.

Abstract

Purpose: The ability to write in accordance with Indonesian language rules is an important indicator of students' academic literacy competence in the global era. However, many students still make linguistic errors in writing expository texts. This study aims to (1) describe the writing patterns of expository texts produced by tenth-grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Karanganyar and (2) identify the types of language errors that frequently occur in their writing.Methodology: This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. The data sources consisted of thirty expository texts written by students from two vocational programs, namely Accounting and Office Affairs. Data were collected through documentation and interview techniques, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Results: The findings reveal four categories of language errors: spelling, morphology, syntax, and semantics. The most dominant errors occurred in spelling and morphology, particularly in capitalization, prepositional usage, and non-standard word formation. The contributing factors include informal writing habits developed through social media, regional language interference, and low awareness of the General Guidelines for Indonesian Spelling (PUEBI).Applications/Originality/Value: This study provides significant pedagogical implications for Indonesian language learning, particularly in implementing error-based learning strategies that encourage reflection and systematic correction of students' linguistic errors. The originality of this study lies in its focus on vocational high school contexts, providing insights into how language awareness can be enhanced to improve writing accuracy among vocational students.

Abstract

Language errors are defined as violations or deviations from established language norms and rules. In practice, students' written work in the form of essays can be evaluated based on content, accuracy in word choice, sentence structure, and spelling. Based on this premise, the present study aims to identify the quality of students' descriptive text writing and the types of language errors that occur among students. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. The subjects of the study were seventh-grade students at SMP N 1 Gatak, and the data consisted of students' descriptive texts. The findings indicate the presence of various language errors in the descriptive essays produced by the seventh-grade students of SMP N 1 Gatak. These language errors can be classified into five categories: spelling errors, word formation errors, morphological errors, and syntactic and semantic errors. Overall, the findings demonstrate that students still require intensive training in grammar and spelling in order to produce essays with accurate structure and meaning. Therefore, Indonesian language instruction is expected to place greater emphasis on the contextual application of linguistic rules, enabling students not only to understand theoretical concepts but also to apply them effectively in producing well-structured and accurate written texts.

Abstract

Writing biographical texts requires students to organize a character's life story chronologically and in an informative manner, using appropriate linguistic rules. One important linguistic aspect of writing is morphology, especially the affixation process through prefixes. However, in practice, inaccuracies in the use of prefixes persist, necessitating analysis of students' morphological abilities. This study aims to identify the form and describe the meaning of prefixes in biographical texts written by high school students in Indramayu Regency. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method. The research data consist of sentences containing prefixes from students' biographical texts. The data sources come from 62 students in grades X-9 and X-10. Data collection techniques involve observation and documentation, while data analysis includes data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The study found six types of prefixes: me-, ber-, di-, ter-, pe-, and se-. The prefix me- is the most dominant, with 79 data points (43.89%), followed by ber- with 46 data points (25.56%). The prefixes di- and pe- each had 17 data points (9.44%), the prefix ter- had 13 data points (7.22%), and the prefix se- was the least used, with 8 data points (4.44%). In terms of form, the prefixes me-ber-, and pe- experienced allomorphic variations due to morphophonemic processes, while di-, ter-, and se- remained relatively constant. In terms of meaning, each prefix conveys a distinct grammatical function, such as expressing actions, conditions, actors, or levels. Students already have a basic understanding of the use of prefixes, but still need improvement to be more precise, varied, and contextual in their writing of biographical texts.
