Abstract

This activity was motivated by the relatively low level of understanding and practical skills among farmers and community members in producing and utilizing botanical pesticides in agricultural practices. The primary objective of the training was to equip participants, particularly students affiliated with the Unsulbar Farming Club (UFC), with relevant knowledge and competencies. The training was conducted at the Greenhouse of the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, University of West Sulawesi. The training employed a demonstration-based method, which involved direct practical engagement and oral explanations at each stage of the botanical pesticide production process. The main ingredients used during the training included papaya leaves, neem leaves, and distilled water (aqua distillate). A total of 60 student participants attended the training, demonstrating a high level of enthusiasm and active engagement throughout the material delivery and practical demonstrations. The overall activity successfully enhanced participants’ awareness and technical skills related to the preparation and application of botanical pesticides. This outcome was reflected in the assessment results, where 93% of participants (56 out of 60) achieved scores ranging from 65 to 85, corresponding to performance levels from Good (B-) to Excellent (A). Meanwhile, 6.67% of participants (4 individuals) received scores categorized as C and D.

Abstract

The people of Galeso Village in Polewali Mandar Regency depend on seaweed farming as their main source of income. However, there are several obstacles such as long seaweed removal time and limited knowledge about processing seaweed into high-value products. The purpose of this Community Partnership Service (PKM) activity is to increase partners' knowledge and skills in using mechanized seaweed pulling technology and processing seaweed into high-value products. The methods used included situation analysis, counseling, training and mentoring, and evaluation. Activities were carried out through lectures, questions and answers, and hands-on practice by participants. Pretest and posttest were used to measure the improvement of participants' knowledge and skills. The results showed a significant increase in participants' knowledge and skills in using technology and processing seaweed. This was reflected in the 79.80% increase in participants' posttest scores compared to the pretest. Participants also showed high satisfaction with the implementation of the training. The PKM activities succeeded in achieving the objectives by increasing the ability and knowledge of partners, which is expected to increase the sustainability of seaweed cultivation businesses in Galeso Village and its surroundings.

Abstract

The concept of organic farming is an effort to maintain optimal levels of environmentally friendly production. Therefore, this research aims to determine the effect of adding tea dregs and coffee dregs to compost media alone or mixed as additional nutrients on the growth of mustard greens (Brassica juncea L.).  This research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments with 3 replications, namely compost without tea dregs and coffee dregs as control (P0). The research data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Least Significant Difference Test (LSD) at a significance level of 5%. The results of the research obtained were that giving tea dregs and coffee dregs to the mustard plant planting medium obtained positive results. Single application of tea dregs had a significant effect on plant height (9.80 cm) and number of leaves (7.5). The treatment with tea dregs also had a significantly different effect from the control and other treatments. Meanwhile, coffee grounds alone contributed to a plant height of 7.1 cm and a number of leaves of 3.75, where the results obtained were not significantly different from the control and other treatments. However, overall, both single and mixed treatments had no significant effect on plant root length. The results of the ANOVA analysis for growth with the mustard plant height parameter obtained a value of Fcount of 4.496 > Ftable, namely 3.49, the parameter number of leaf blades Fcount 8.757 > Ftable, namely 3.49, and the root length parameter Fcount 0.367 < Ftable 3.49.
