Abstract

Purpose – The critical thinking ability of students forms the foundation for developing competent learners. This critical thinking ability can be facilitated through the application of the Flipped Classroom learning model. The purpose of this research is to understand the implementation of the Flipped Classroom model to enhance students' critical thinking skills in Catholic religious education.Method – This research method used by researchers is qualitative. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data processing techniques are done through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing.Findings – The findings of this study indicate that improving students' critical thinking skills in Catholic religion learning can be done in two ways, namely the application of the Flipped Classroom learning model refers to discussion preparation and discussion activities as well as through interpretation, analysis, evaluation and inference. Research Implications – This research has relevant implications for the Flipped Classroom learning model on improving students' critical thinking skills. However, this research is limited by its focus on a conceptual approach without empirical testing so further research is needed to test the applicability of the learning model theory in actual practice in an educational setting.

Abstract

Stress and the management of student stress are crucial issues in the field of education, especially at the high school level. Grade X students at SMA RK Serdang Murni Lubuk Pakam experience academic stress caused by heavy workloads, grade competition, exam anxiety, and uncertainty about their future education. This stress affects students cognitively, affectively, behaviorally, and physiologically, which in turn disrupts their learning process. This study aims to examine how stress is managed among Grade X students and how Catholic Religious Education (PAK) contributes to the coping process. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The subjects were Grade X students and the Catholic Religion teacher. The findings show that stress management is facilitated through spiritual guidance, moral motivation, and reflective activities such as prayer and sharing, led by the PAK teacher. The PAK learning materials, particularly "I Am a Unique Individual" and "Equality between men and women"  help students to know themselves, accept their uniqueness, and build healthy relationships with others and with God. The PAK teacher also acts as a spiritual companion who encourages students to be more open, optimistic, and faithful in facing academic pressures. Thus, Catholic Religious Education has proven to be an effective means of helping students cope with academic stress in the school environment.

Abstract

The Merdeka curriculum was introduced to enhance the quality of Indonesian education and bridge the gap with other countries. Student learning achievement, assessed through standardized evaluations, serves as a key measure of this improvement. This study aims to identify the difficulties faced by teachers in adapting their teaching methods, the challenges in developing instructional modules, and the issues encountered in assessing Catholic religious education. This qualitative study employed observations, interviews, and document analysis to collect data from Catholic Religious Education teachers. Data were analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Findings indicate that teachers have implemented the Merdeka curriculum. However, they face significant challenges in transitioning from traditional teaching methods, designing effective teaching modules, and conducting assessments in accordance with the new system. These difficulties highlight the need for additional support and training. The study reveals that inadequate dissemination and technical guidance hinder effective curriculum implementation. Teachers require structured training and resources to successfully integrate the Merdeka curriculum into their teaching practices. While the Merdeka curriculum has been adopted, challenges remain in its execution. To ensure effective implementation, comprehensive training and equitable distribution of curriculum resources are necessary. Further research is recommended to explore long-term solutions for improving teacher adaptation.

Abstract

This study examines the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in reshaping religious authority and learning practices within Catholic education, focusing on the subject of the Church as the People of God. Employing a qualitative research design based on Creswell’s approach, the study seeks to explore the lived experiences of teachers and students in engaging with AI as part of religious learning processes. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis at SMA Katolik 2 Kabanjahe, North Sumatra Province, involving two Catholic Religious Education teachers, thirty students, and the school principal. Data analysis followed the stages of data reduction, data display, and interactive conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that AI does not merely function as a pedagogical tool, but actively transforms patterns of religious learning and the mediation of ecclesial authority in the classroom. AI facilitates more contextual theological explanations, supports simulated pastoral dialogues, and provides visual resources that strengthen students’ conceptual and reflective understanding of the Church’s identity as the People of God. At the same time, the integration of AI reconfigures the role of teachers from primary transmitters of knowledge to mediators of meaning, interpretation, and ecclesial values. Students demonstrate increased learning motivation, deeper faith reflection, and more critical engagement with religious content. However, this transformation also generates challenges, including technological dependency, unequal digital literacy, and the need for continuous ethical and ecclesial guidance to ensure that AI-mediated learning remains aligned with Catholic values and religious authority structures
