Abstract

Grouper (Epinephelus Sp.) is an economically important fish that lives in coral reefs and is widely consumed by the public. It is necessary to analyze the relationship between the length and weight of fish at the Kaliadem fish landing site and Muara Angke market. This research aims to determine the relationship between length and weight of fish. Data on the length and weight of the fish were taken from a sample of 20 grouper fish sold at the two locations. This Research was carried out in April 2018. This study used survey method, observation of grouper morphology. The analysis used in this research uses multiple linear regression analysis. The research showed that grouper fish had a length range of 128 mm – 169 mm and a weight range of 31 g – 65 g with an average length of 144.5 mm and an average weight of 42.75. The results of linear regression on the relationship between the length and weight of grouper fish samples produced a regression equation Y = 2.7424x – 9.8972 with a value of b = 2.74 and a coefficient of determination of 0.9281. significant b < 3 means the allomatric growth pattern is negative and 98.97% of changes in fish weight occur due to an increase in fish length, while 1.03% is caused by other factors. It can be concluded that length growth is faster than weight gain in grouper fish. The condition factor value of the grouper this research had a Fulton condition factor value (K) ranging from 2.95 to 3.17 and a relative weight (Wr) ranging from 86.50 to 106.41 with an average Wr value of 100.31.

Abstract

This community service activity was carried out in Kuala Tungkal, Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency, Jambi Province, to address the challenges faced by fishermen in identifying potential fishing grounds. The primary focus was creating a map of potential fishing grounds based on oceanographic data to enhance the efficiency and productivity of fishermen. The methods included collecting oceanographic data, satellite imagery, and performing geospatial analysis using ArcGIS 10.8 software to predict and map the potential fishing grounds. Training sessions were held to teach fishermen how to use GPS and fishing ground maps, enabling them to predict and navigate fishing locations more effectively. This activity was carried out by involving several participations; fishermen, local government, and Fisheries Service of Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency. The map produced by the team depicts strategic locations in the waters of Kuala Tungkal (FMA 711) based on sea surface temperature (SST) and chlorophyll-a indicators. There are 105,633 potential fishing points being identified in this area. SST values range from 28.2°C to 32°C, and chlorophyll-a values range from 0.2 mg/m³ to 2 mg/m³.  The training outcomes demonstrated that most fishermen could effectively use GPS and the fishing ground map during fishing operations. The active participation of fishermen and the provision of technology training is pivotal in the program’s success. Consequently, the utilization of potential fishing ground maps based on oceanographic data has the potential to enhance fishermen's performance and contribute to sustainable fisheries resource management in the FMA 711 area.

Abstract

One of the key commodities in the capture fisheries sector is the Jinga Shrimp (Metapenaeus monoceros), which is widely distributed in tropical waters, including the coastal area of Tanjung Jabung Barat, Jambi Province. This study aims to estimate the Maximum Sustainable Yield (MSY) and the fishing potential of Jinga Shrimp in the waters of Tanjung Jabung Barat. The data used are secondary data on annual catch and fishing effort from 2017 to 2023, obtained from the local Fisheries Office. The analysis was conducted using the Schaefer model approach, which includes calculations of Catch per Unit Effort (CPUE), MSY, optimum effort (EMSY), Allowable Catch, utilization rate, and exploitation rate. The results showed an MSY value of 2,189.60 tons/year and an EMSY of 68.19 trips/year. As the safe harvest limit, the allowable catch was set at 1,751.68 tons/year (80% of MSY). The average utilization rate was 88%, indicating that the resource has not yet experienced overfishing. However, the exploitation rate has exceeded the optimum limit (124%) and is considered overfishing. The negative relationship between CPUE and effort (R² = 96.72%) indicates a decline in stock due to high fishing intensity. Therefore, adaptive and stock-based management policies are necessary to ensure this region's sustainable conservation of Jinga Shrimp populations.

Abstract

Kerinci Lake is a type of tectonic lake located in the Kerinci Regency, Jambi Province. The fishing gear such as tangkul/ pesap, nets (trawls), and traps (lukah) are commonly used in Telago Village. This research aims to investigate the effect of soaking duration of trap fishing gear on the catch of freshwater lobster. This research was conducted from February 27 to March 18, 2024. An experimental fishing method was employed, comparing soaking durations of 24 hours and 12 hours. Quantitative data were analyzed using frequency of occurrence, followed by T-test analysis. The results showed that a 24-hour soaking period yielded 237 lobsters with an average weight of 34.75 grams, with the highest frequency of occurrence at 44% and the lowest at 24%, averaging 33.20%. In contrast, a 12-hour soaking period resulted in 119 lobsters with an average weight of 33.88 grams, with the highest frequency of occurrence at 32% and the lowest at 8%, averaging 17.60%. T-test analysis indicated no significant effect of soaking duration on the number of lobsters caught, average weight, or depth-related environmental parameters. However, significant effects were observed for environmental parameters such as temperature and pH. In conclusion, while soaking duration does not significantly affect the catch of freshwater lobster (Cherax quadricarinatus), the 24-hour soaking period resulted in a higher yield.
