Abstract

The Islamic banking industry is currently one of the main indicators of the development of Islamic economics in Indonesia. In Islamic banking issue, one of the important issues is related to people's preferences and behavior towards Islamic banks. The study of the criteria for selecting a bank has been the concern of many bank marketing researchers. Compared to conventional, such studies are relatively minimal, especially in Indonesia. This study tries to analyze the preferences and behavior of criteria for selection of Islamic banks in Indonesia through the Analytical Network Process (ANP) approach. The results conclude that the most priority criteria that influence the selection of Islamic banks in Indonesia are service factors and religiosity factors or the suitability of banks with sharia principles. Therefore, Islamic banks need to constantly improve the quality of services both services and products so that they can compete with conventional banks.

Abstract

This research aims to identify the priority factors that being barriers to issue and develop Islamic blue sukuk in Indonesia. Employing the Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) method, it also offers several solutions for the identified problems. As an advanced planning methodology, ISM is used to identify, analyze, and summarize various relationships among factors that define a problem, model, or issue. In the ISM framework, there are three criteria of blue sukuk development in Indonesia including (1) aspect or foundation required within the framework of developing blue sukuk; (2) infrastructure that will be used as a basis for sukuk issuance (underlying projects); and (3) stakeholders involved in the development of blue sukuk in Indonesia. Results show that important foundations needed in the development of blue sukuk are regulatory aspects, feasible underlying projects, investors, and inter-institutional coordination, respectively. Finally, possible underlying infrastructures for the issuance of Blue Sukuk are the development of integrated fishing villages as well as the procurement of large and environmentally friendly fishing boats.

Abstract

This study attempts to identify the causes and dominant factors that hinder the development of cash waqf in Indonesia, using the IFE-EFE Matrix and SWOT methods, while offering solutions to solve it. Based on the results of IFE analysis, the highest-rank of strengths is the ability of cash waqf in expanding the base of waqf fund sources followed by the ease and zero cost of funds. In comparison, the top weaknesses are the lack of socialisation to the community and the lack of professional nazhir human resources. The results of EFE analysis imply the highest-rank opportunity is the potential of unlimited cash waqf followed by the emergence of many sharia financial institutions and Islamic economics study programs in universities. Meanwhile, the top threat is a weak political will of authorities, followed by the majority of traditional nazhir. It is expected that there will be a joint commitment from various parties, both from policymakers and academics and practitioners to support and encourage efforts to develop the Islamic (social) finance industry, especially in developing cash waqf in Indonesia.
