Abstract

The purpose of this research is to develop a student's conception of mechanical energy conservation with the Interactive Lecture Demonstration method. The participants consisted of 19 students of class 7E SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Mlati in 2018/2019 academic year. The analysis of the student's sheet prediction showed that most students do not understand the conception of mechanical energy conservation. After learning applied, it is known that all students have understood the influence of the height of the object on potential energy, 18 of them have understood the influence of the mass of the object on potential energy. While students' understanding of changes in mechanical energy when objects fall and the influence of mass on kinetic energy has increased slightly. Through the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, it was concluded that there was an effect of the use of interactive demonstration methods on student learning outcomes in the matter of mechanical energy conservation conceptions.

Abstract

This paper aims to assess the understanding and attitudes of youth towards energy conservation in Nepal and Indonesia. This research used a quantitative mixed methods approach, including questionnaires and focus group discussions with 101 Nepalese and Indonesian respondents. Qualitative data was obtained from the results of FGDs with 15 respondents from each country. The results show that the training has greatly impacted understanding related to energy conservation. Before being given the training, the level of awareness was 38%. After being given the training, it increased to 65%. The results of the FGD also show that this awareness program has opened the participants' eyes to become aware of energy saving and energy conservation, including water conservation. The study concludes that empowering young people to take action is critical to achieving sustainable energy consumption and highlights the importance of targeting consumer behavior to achieve sustainable energy savings and encourage sustainable consumption patterns. This study also provides insight into the potential of young people to encourage wise energy behavior throughout society and contribute to achieving sustainable energy consumption.

Abstract

Flipbooks are interesting reference books for student learning. The integration of digital media in education has become crucial in the digital age, and flipbooks have gained popularity as an interactive tool. This systematic literature review investigates the effectiveness and implementation of flipbooks in science education from 2017 to 2024. This study employed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) method. We reviewed journal articles indexed in Scopus and Sinta, focusing on the use of flipbooks in science education. Our review highlights the effectiveness of flipbooks in improving student engagement, motivation, and learning outcomes in science education. The flipbook's interactive features, such as multimedia elements and simulations, have proven to support diverse learning styles. The adoption of flipbooks in science education shows promise for enhancing the digital literacy of students and educators. However, further empirical research is required to understand its long-term impacts and the best strategies for implementation.

Abstract

Science education at the junior high school level requires an approach that maximally develops students' science process skills (SPS). One way to achieve this is by utilizing interactive learning media, such as virtual laboratories, combined with an inquiry-based learning model. This study aims to determine the effect of implementing an inquiry-based virtual laboratory on improving students' SPS. The method used in this study is pre-experimental with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The subjects in this study were 32 students from class VIII D at SMP Negeri 4 Yogyakarta. Data collection was carried out by administering a pretest before treatment and a posttest after treatment. The data obtained were analyzed using paired t-test and N-Gain test. The paired t-test results showed a significance value (2-tailed) = (0.00) < 0.05, indicating the effect of the treatment on students' SPS. The N-Gain result was 0.73 in the high category, so it can be concluded that applying virtual laboratory media with the inquiry-based learning model in the inclined plane topic can enhance students' SPS in science subjects.

Abstract

Abstract

Purpose of the study: The research objective is to provide essential insights into students' self-regulation characteristics in border regions, which can inform strategic efforts to maintain and improve their capabilities as they navigate the challenges of the digital era. Methodology: This study used quantitative research with descriptive data analysis involving 198 students from three junior high schools in Nunukan Regency. Data was collected using a self-regulation questionnaire with a Likert scale, which measured four indicators: forethought, volitional control, motivation, and self-reflection. The data was then analyzed using score and average calculations to assess the students' self-regulation profile. Main Findings: The study findings reveal that the self-regulation profile of junior high school students in Nunukan Regency is generally in the high category, with an average of 77%. The motivation indicator reached the highest level at 81%, while volitional control was the lowest at 72%. Notably, differences in self-regulation levels were observed across the participating schools and grade levels. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study provides a comprehensive understanding of the self-regulation characteristics of students in the border area of Nunukan Regency, which can serve as a basis for developing more effective learning strategies and improving the quality of education in similar contexts. The findings offer valuable insights that can inform the development of targeted interventions and support systems to cater to the specific needs of learners in border regions as they navigate the challenges of the digital era.

Abstract

Conventional science education often fails to develop essential critical thinking and collaboration skills among students. This study investigates the impact of problem-based learning (PBL) augmented by classcraft gamification on enhancing these competencies. Utilizing an experimental design with a nonequivalent control group, data were gathered through pretests, posttests, and collaboration questionnaires. Analysis involved independent sample t-tests, Manova, and effect size calculations. The independent sample t-test demonstrated a significant difference between the experimental and control groups (p = 0.000 0.05), highlighting the intervention's effectiveness. Additionally, MANOVA results confirmed that the PBL model using classcraft significantly influenced both critical thinking and collaboration skills. With effect sizes of 1.78 and 1.48, the intervention was categorized as having a very high impact. These findings indicate that incorporating classcraft gamification into PBL not only enhances students' critical thinking and collaboration but also promotes a more engaging learning atmosphere. The implications of this study suggest a transformative approach to science education, encouraging educators to embrace innovative methods that cultivate vital 21st-century skills in students. By leveraging gamified learning experiences, educators can better prepare students for the complexities of modern problem-solving and teamwork
