Abstract

Antioxidants can be given to the skin through cosmetics such as face toners. One source of antioxidants is obtained through the fermentation of butterfly pea flower kombucha (Clitoria ternatea L.), which has been proven to have better antioxidant activity than butterfly pea flower extract alone. This study aimed to determine the metabolite compounds in butterfly pea flower kombucha and create a facial toner formulation with good antioxidant activity. The butterfly pea flower kombucha was fermented for 6 days at room temperature. Facial toners were made with concentrations of 5%, 7,5% and 10%. Evaluation of the face toner includes organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, specific gravity, and viscosity tests. The antioxidant activity test used the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-pycrilhydrazil) method, with vitamin C as a positive control. The results showed that there were alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and terpenoid compounds in butterfly pea flower kombucha. Face toners with concentrations of 5%, 7.5%, and 10% could be prepared and met all evaluations (organoleptic tests, homogeneity, pH, specific gravity, and viscosity). Antioxidant test results on formula 1 IC50 50,21±SD 0,01 (strong), formula 2 IC50 44,32±SD 0,02 (very strong) and formula 3 IC50 38,62±SD 0,03 (very strong). The higher the concentration of butterfly pea flower kombucha, the higher the antioxidant activity. Butterfly pea flower kombucha (Clitoria ternatea L.) which is formulated as a face toner preparation has strong to very strong antioxidants, and the increasing concentration of active ingredients had an effect on antioxidant activity.  Keywords: face toner, butterfly pea flower kombucha, DPPH method, antioxidant activity

Abstract

Penanganan dan pencegahan berbagai penyakit tidak dapat dilepaskan dari tindakan terapi dengan obat atau farmakoterapi. Berbagai pilihan obat saat ini tersedia, sehingga diperlukan pertimbangan-pertimbangan yang cermat dalam memilih obat untuk suatu penyakit. Obat harus selalu digunakan secara benar agar memberikan manfaat klinik yang optimal. Terlalu banyaknya jenis obat yang tersedia ternyata juga dapat memberikan masalah tersendiri dalam praktek, terutama menyangkut bagaimana memilih dan menggunakan obat secara benar dan aman. Edukasi ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tingkat pengetahuan masyarakat akan pemilihan dan penggunaan obat yang tepat. Penyuluhan ini dilakukan dengan metode sosialisasi secara langsung bersamaan dengan pemberian brosur tentang stunting kepada ibu-ibu yang mengikuti kegiatan posyandu. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan terjadi peningkatan pemahaman dan pengetahuan ibu-ibu terhadap pemilihan dan penggunaan obat yang tepat. Kegiatan sosialisasi ini sangat bermanfaat bagi warga Desa Mundu pesisir sehingga diharapkan melalui sosialisasi ini terwujud masyarakat yang cerdas dalam pemilihan dan penggunaan obat bagi keluarga. Abstract

Centella asiatica (L.) Urban contains flavonoids and triterpenoids with strong antioxidant activity; however, its topical bioavailability is limited by poor solubility. This study aimed to formulate and evaluate liposomal gel systems containing a 70% ethanol extract of C. asiatica to enhance dermal penetration while preserving antioxidant activity. The extract was incorporated into liposomes using a lecithin–cholesterol ratio of 9:1 and formulated into gels at concentrations of 0.3% (FG1) and 0.5% (FG2). Physicochemical characterization showed mean particle sizes of 119.8 ± 7.21 nm (FG1) and 101.3 ± 6.55 nm (FG2), with polydispersity index values of 0.410 and 0.306, respectively, indicating acceptable vesicle homogeneity across three independent replicates (n = 3). The formulations were physically stable for two weeks at 4 °C but exhibited instability at elevated temperatures. Antioxidant activity evaluated using the DPPH assay yielded IC₅₀ values of 13.87 ± 0.02 µg/mL for FG1 and 13.97 ± 0.06 µg/mL for FG2, which were not significantly different (p > 0.05) from vitamin C (9.16 ± 0.06 µg/mL), indicating preservation of radical-scavenging capacity. In vitro permeation studies using Franz diffusion cells demonstrated cumulative quercetin penetration of 280.86 ± 1.12 µg/cm² for FG1 and 314.40 ± 0.93 µg/cm² for FG2 over 4 h, with FG2 showing significantly higher flux (p < 0.05). Release kinetics followed a zero-order model (R² = 0.9881–0.9914), suggesting controlled release behavior. Overall, liposomal gel formulations show potential for improving topical delivery of C. asiatica without overstating long-term stability or therapeutic superiority.
