Abstract

Background: Dental health problems such as caries are still mostly experienced by elementary school-aged children in Indonesia. Health education is one of the preventive strategies employed to mitigate these problems. Dental health education was chosen as a PkM activity at SDN Kapasa. Objectives: The objective of this activity was to enhance students’ knowledge and attitudes regarding the maintenance of dental health. Methods: The approach used in this activity involved lectures supplemented by audiovisual media. A questionnaire was administered twice, before (pre-test) and after (post-test) the intervention, to assess students' knowledge and attitudes. Data were analyzed using a frequency distribution test. Results: The pre-test results indicated that a majority of students had inadequate knowledge (46.4%) and attitudes (82.1%). In contrast, the post-test results indicated an improvement in knowledge (57.1% rated as good; 42.9% rated as adequate) and attitudes ( 46.4% rated good; 35.7% rated adequate). These findings suggest that dental health education can substantially improve both the knowledge and attitudes of students at SDN Kapasa.

Abstract

Kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan scoping review berdasarkan panduan PRISMA-ScR (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews), dengan penilaian kualitas artikel menggunakan The Joanna Briggs Institute Checklist.

Abstract

Hypertension is recognized as a leading contributor to cardiovascular diseases and is frequently labeled a "silent killer" due to its lack of clear symptoms, despite its significant impact on global illness and death rates.  This research aimed to evaluate the influence of such exercise on blood pressure in adults diagnosed with hypertension. A pre-experimental design utilizing a one-group pretest–posttest method was applied, involving 43 participants selected via purposive sampling based on set inclusion criteria. The data were examined using the Shapiro–Wilk test for normality and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test for hypothesis testing. Findings revealed that prior to the intervention, the median systolic pressure was 148 mmHg, and the median diastolic pressure stood at 88 mmHg. Following the exercise intervention, the systolic median dropped to 141.75 mmHg and the diastolic to 84 mmHg. Statistical analysis with the Wilcoxon test returned a p-value of 0.000 (below 0.05) for both measures, indicating a statistically significant change post-intervention. These outcomes demonstrate that hypertension exercise can be an effective method for lowering blood pressure in hypertensive adults. The results support the broader adoption of non-drug-based strategies in communities to help manage and control hypertension.

Abstract

Background: Early identification of emotional and behavioral problems, including attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), is essential for optimizing preschool children’s development. In Indonesia, many preschool teachers lack sufficient competence due to limited structured training. Evidence comparing audiovisual and booklet-based instructional media is scarce. This study addresses this gap, providing insights to enhance teacher preparedness in early detection. Purpose: This study compared the effectiveness of audiovisual and booklet-based training programs in improving preschool teachers’ knowledge and skills in the early detection of emotional behavior problems and ADHD. Methods: A quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent group design was conducted among 58 preschool teachers selected through purposive sampling. Preschools were assigned to two formats that delivered identical training content through either audiovisual or booklet-based media. Participants’ knowledge was assessed using a questionnaire, and practical skills were evaluated with a checklist, both of which were validated and reliable. Data were analyzed using independent t-tests and Mann–Whitney U tests. Results: Audiovisual training produced significantly greater improvements in participants’ knowledge (p < 0.001) and skills in early detection of emotional behavior problems (p < 0.001) and ADHD (p = 0.009) compared with booklet training. The audiovisual group achieved higher post-test scores and demonstrated better knowledge retention. Conclusion: Audiovisual-based training was more effective than booklet-based training in enhancing preschool teachers’ knowledge and skills for identifying early emotional and behavioral problems in children. These findings highlight the importance of integrating audiovisual learning into teacher development programs to strengthen early childhood mental health surveillance.

Abstract

Musculoskeletal disorders and mobility limitations are prevalent health concerns in urban communities. Inadequate understanding of safe movement patterns and the absence of structured physical activity often increase the risk of injury and reduce quality of life. To address this issue, a Community Service Program (PKM) titled “Injury Prevention and Mobility Enhancement for the Community in Open Public Spaces in Jakarta” was conducted at the Car Free Day (CFD) area of Monas. The program involved 119 participants, with 50 completing both pre- and post-test evaluations. The primary goal was to enhance movement literacy and raise awareness of safe mobility practices. Activities were organized into preparation, implementation, and evaluation stages. Interactive education was delivered through counseling and demonstrations of dynamic warm-ups, balance exercises, core strengthening, and posture correction. Results showed marked improvement: participants scoring <50% decreased from 36% to 4%, while 80% achieved scores ≥70, confirming the effectiveness of practice-based community education in open space.

Abstract

A healthy diet plays an important role in supporting children’s optimal growth and development. Parents play a crucial role in shaping their children’s eating habits, which is closely related to their level of health literacy. In addition, children’s self-efficacy also influences their ability to independently choose healthy foods. The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between parents’ health literacy and elementary school children’s self-efficacy in choosing healthy foods. This study employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design, involving 50 parents and fifth-grade students at SDN 01 Pasar Manggis, South Jakarta. Parents’ health literacy was measured using the HLS-EU-Q16 questionnaire, which was adapted to focus on aspects related to children’s healthy eating patterns. Data were analyzed using the Spearman test. The results showed that the majority of parents (70%) had high health literacy, while most children (74%) had moderate self-efficacy. The Spearman test results indicated no significant relationship between parents’ health literacy regarding healthy eating and children’s self-efficacy in choosing healthy foods (p < 0.05). Therefore, additional approaches are needed, involving schools, the social environment, and active family engagement in shaping healthy eating behaviors among children.
