Abstract

Abstract In Aceh, Indonesia, Governor's Circular SE-11286 regulates coffee shop operating hours aiming to strengthen Islamic Sharia compliance. This policy sparks tension with the crucial role these businesses play in local commerce, employment, and community engagement across key hub (e.g., Langsa, Lhokseumawe) and destination (e.g., Banda Aceh) cities. This article investigates the balance between faith-based regulation and economic vitality. Employing a public policy research approach with interpretive analysis, the study evaluates SE-11286 through the Maqasid al-Shariah framework, conceptualized systemically, examining policy articulation, social construction, and socio-economic impacts. Findings indicate significant challenges in aligning the regulation with holistic Maqasid principles. The policy's focus potentially prioritizes aspects of Hifz al-Din while disproportionately compromising Hifz al-Mal negatively impacting livelihoods and the function of coffee shops as vital economic and social hubs. The study concludes that effective Sharia-informed governance requires a comprehensive Maqasid application, balancing diverse objectives and necessitating thorough socio-economic impact assessments prior to implementation. This research provides critical implications for formulating ethically grounded and economically sustainable regulations within contemporary Islamic contexts. Abstract

Abstract

This study explores how e-wallets promote financial inclusion in Besitang, a non-metropolitan Indonesian city. We investigate the influence of features, promotions, and brand image on e-wallet purchasing decisions. A quantitative survey targeting 100 smartphone-owning workers and students was conducted. Analysis revealed that all three factors (features, promotions, and brand image) have a significant positive impact on e-wallet usage (p < 0.05). Together, they explain 80.7% of the variation in purchasing decisions, highlighting their crucial role in e-wallet adoption. These findings emphasize the importance of e-wallet providers implementing innovative features, attractive promotions, and a strong brand image to drive financial inclusion in non-metropolitan areas. The study offers valuable insights for e-wallet companies and opens avenues for further research on e-wallet adoption drivers.

Abstract

This study projected the action of political literacy and promoting the ability to discern hoaxes among first-time voters during the 2024 election by instituting an anti-hoax education initiative. The research employed a socialization approach employing interpersonal communication (AKP) techniques. One hundred students enrolled in semesters 1 to 4 at the Faculty of Education and Islamic Studies (FEBI) of Langsa State Islamic University (IAIN) constituted the participant pool, organized into 10 small groups. Each group featured a designated facilitator tasked with guiding discussions focused on the identification of hoaxes in electoral contexts. The instructional materials encompassed topics such as electoral processes, the democratic system, hoax detection strategies, and penalties for disseminating hoaxes. The study's outcomes revealed a favorable response from first-time voters and a noteworthy transformation in their comprehension of hoaxes. These conclusions were drawn from the evaluation outcomes and responses to both pre- and post-tests administered to all participants. The implications of these findings underscore the significance of anti-hoax education as an initial stride toward cultivating astute and critical first-time voters in the context of elections. This investigation contributes to the advancement of analogous educational models and the establishment of more robust election procedures in subsequent occurrences

Abstract

This study investigated the effectiveness of e-commerce in boosting halal fashion sales in Peureulak, Aceh, Indonesia, exploring its potential to enhance economic opportunities in the region. Employing a qualitative field research approach, data was gathered through interviews with key informants, including owners, employees, and buyers of halal fashion businesses in Peureulak. The research examined online strategies and their impact on sales. The findings revealed that e-commerce significantly increased halal fashion sales in Peureulak by expanding market reach beyond local boundaries and facilitating effective promotion and clear product information dissemination. Key success factors included ease of online access, high-quality product presentation, competitive pricing, trustworthy customer service, diverse payment options like Cash on Delivery (COD), and positive customer reviews. While local sales remained primarily conventional, e-commerce successfully attracted external customers, substantially supporting business growth. The study suggests that optimizing digital platforms like TikTok, Shoppe, and Instagram, alongside prioritizing rapid customer service, attractive promotions, and reliable product quality, are crucial strategies for enhancing e-commerce effectiveness in the halal fashion sector. These findings highlight the potential of e-commerce to drive economic growth and broader social inclusion within similar contexts in OIC countries by leveraging local strengths and expanding market access.

Abstract

The growing halal industry has emerged as a major driver of economic development in Muslim-majority countries; however, its expansion has largely been driven by market-oriented logic with limited engagement with Islamic social finance institutions. At the same time, waqf institutions - despite their historical role in financing public goods and socio-economic development - remain predominantly confined to traditional charitable functions. This conceptual paper addresses the structural disconnect between waqf and the halal industry by reconceptualizing their relationship within an integrated Islamic economic framework. Using a conceptual research approach based on critical literature synthesis and theory integration, this study examines existing waqf development models, halal industry ecosystems, and maqasid al-shariah principles. The paper proposes an integrated waqf institution and halal industry framework that positions waqf as a catalytic instrument for sustainable halal value-chain development through productive financing, institutional collaboration, and digital innovation. The analysis highlights how such integration can enhance governance quality, strengthen SME development, and align Islamic economic activities with broader sustainability objectives. The paper concludes that effective waqf-halal integration requires regulatory harmonization, professionalization of waqf management, and a shift from charity-based to impact-oriented waqf governance, offering strategic implications for policymakers and Islamic economic stakeholders.
