Abstract

In language, reading ability is an important basis in the learning process. Moreover, the ability to read must be mastered by every student. The implementation of offline learning after the Covid 19 pandemic, many students in elementary school especially lower grades were able to sound out letters even though they did not understand the text they were reading. Students had lack of ability to read and difficult to understand for them to receive learning material. Then, it is necessary to utilize technology which has developed rapidly every day in learning process. By bringing up new innovations regarding the Scrabble game learning media in elementary school students’ reading, this research aims to motivate the reading process of elementary school students. This game can motivate students to read vocabulary with concrete objects related to their daily life, including the environment around them. This research uses the Multimedia Development Life Cycle (MDLC) method. The results of this research show that students obtained a score of 91% (Very Good), class teachers 94% (Very Good), and 96% (Very Good) from teachers in the Computer Science Technology subject. It is proven from the results of obtaining these scores that the Scrabble game can be used as a reading support material for elementary school students.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the impact of digital storytelling on the teaching practicum experiences of pre-service English teachers (PSET) and to delve into the challenges they encountered in creating digital storytelling, along with the strategies used to overcome these challenges. This study provided deeper understanding of the impact of digital storytelling on the learning and teaching experiences of PSET. Moreover, it provided information to face obstacles in the digital storytelling creation process. A total of 30 PSET, comprising 13 males and 17 females, engaged in their sixth-semester teaching practicum, participated in this study. Self-reflection and semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect the data. The researcher applied thematic analysis to analyze the data obtained. The findings of this study revealed that the implementation of digital storytelling yielded positive experiences for PSET, encompassing enhancements in pedagogical approaches, self-development, and technology integration into the teaching-learning process. PSET encountered various difficulties in creating digital storytelling, including seamless integration of movement, audio, images, and animations within the narrative, crafting engaging animations and narratives, and proficiency in using diverse editing applications. Moreover, the challenges encompassed collecting and curating appropriate materials and organizing a coherent storyline aligning with the lesson plans and real-world contexts. Nevertheless, PSET proposed solutions to overcome those difficulties.

Abstract

: The problem with this research is the lack of skills and thinking skills of humane education in the twenty-first century, especially of critical thinking and problem-solving. It is caused by several factors, one of the main factors is, learning that has not been oriented to the development of the twenty-first-century thinking skills and still only focuses on achieving partial-textual knowledge and not on the integrative-contextual understanding of the knowledge learned. In line with this, it takes an effort to improve the critical thinking skills of Indonesian education. The effort should be initiated by engineering the appropriate education model and on target, one of which is multiliteracies pedagogy. This research was conducted using the literature study discussing multiliteracies pedagogy to enhancing critical thinking skills in the twenty-first century. Literature review refers to a written synthesis of journal articles, books, and other documents that summarizes and critiques the past and current state of information about a topic, organizes the literature into sub-topics, and documents the background for a study. It can be concluded that the implementation of the multiliteracies pedagogy models is one of the alternative learning models that can improve critical thinking and problem-solving students in the university effectively in the areas of study taught compared to the most direct models used in English Language Teaching (ELT). Therefore, it is advisable to implement multiliteracies pedagogy in the practice of learning activities. Also, the application of multiliteracies pedagogy should be supported by the cooperation of all elements, both between teachers, management, and parents. This needs to be done to realize the effectiveness of quality learning, thus giving implications on the growth of potential students.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to address the challenges faced by English teachers at SDN Kedung Kendo, Candi-Sidoarjo, especially in relation to their qualifications and teaching practices. Specifically, the objective is to improve the quality of English education by developing self-teaching materials that are suitable for elementary school students, incorporating elements of Child-Friendly School (CFS) principles. Method: The research employs activity-based training for English teachers in the Primary School group, with a focus on creating engaging and suitable self-teaching materials. Teachers are guided on how to design and print these materials as textbooks. These activities are intended to enhance the teachers' ability to deliver content that caters to students' interests and learning characteristics, while also addressing the lack of media such as songs and videos. Results: The results indicate that the teachers were able to create effective teaching materials that were both engaging and aligned with the needs of their students. These materials, which combine the principles of the CFS program, have been successfully integrated into the teaching process. As a result, English lessons became more interactive and diverse, incorporating vocabulary and speaking exercises that were previously difficult to teach. Novelty: This study introduces a novel approach to overcoming the limitations of teacher qualifications and resources in rural schools. By empowering teachers to develop their own teaching materials and print them as textbooks, this approach enhances the overall learning experience, making it more aligned with the educational needs of students and the goals of the CFS program.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of comic strip media on the ability to write stories for third-grade students at a private Islamic school in Porong. This research uses quantitative research. sampling with non-probability techniques to obtain 1 class, namely class III, following the data taken by the researchers. The data collection technique used the test method to find out the results of writing essays using a pre-test and post-test to find out how much influence the use of comic strip media had on the ability to write essays. In this study, the pre-experimental design was used with the one-group pretest- posttest design. The population that became the object of this research was 20 third-grade students of a private Islamic school in Porong. Based on data analysis using the N-Gain formula, it shows that the average result of the pre-test is 67.7, and the average result of the post- test score is 85.55. Based on data processing from the Eta Squared test, it was 0.871 in the pre-test and 0.882 in the post-test. If t 0.14 indicates that this comic strip medium has a significant influence, the results of the paired sample pre-test sig. (2-tailed) in the study are.000, then the decision-making is following the t-test. If the value of sig. (2-tailed) is below 0.05, then there is an increase or a very significant effect on the research variables. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of comic strip media on the ability to write stories by third-grade students greatly affects their writing ability of students.
