Abstract

This study was aimed at finding out 1) how learners in a specific teaching-learning context namely process-based academic essay writing perceived the importance of corrective feedbacks (CF); 2) what CF was expected the most; 3) in what way learners preferred to have their CF  provided; and 4) how learners perceived the importance of grammar teaching. It was conducted at English Literature Department of a university in Central Java Indonesia. Forty two students who were taking Essay Writing course served as the subjects for the study. The course itself was delivered in a process-based writing in which content development and rhetoric were given more emphasis than grammar accuracy was. Data for the study were collected by questionnaire and a semi-structured interview with 5 guided questions. The findings suggest that learners still considered CFs as highly important and useful for their writing improvement. Learners expected to have comprehensive CFs of grammar, vocabulary, spelling, organization and punctuation, and CF on grammar was the most preferred one. In terms of CF provision technique, underlying and making notes were the most preferred techniques. Finally, this study concludes that the shift of approach from a product-based to a process-based did not significantly change learners’ focus from forms to content.

Abstract

Teaching speaking to Indonesian EFL young learners is still problematic. It happens not only because English is not used in daily activities but also the government’s regulation to some extent does not support that. This qualitative study aims to describe the problems faced by EFL students in the learning of English speaking with teachers’ perspectives. The samples of this research were three teachers from three different elementary schools in Jepara, Central Java, Indonesia. The data were collected by using questionnaire, interview, and classroom observation. The data were then analyzed by 1) memoing or transcribing the interview data, reading them to make notes and finding the most important information that might be useful for the study, 2) describing the data to find complete explanation of context, setting, and interactions of participants, 3) classifying data—to break down the obtained result and put it into categories, and 4) interpreting the data to find the meanings of the data by connecting the findings with previous studies, personal experience, and expert advice to find the best result. The result showed that EFL students’ problems in the learning of English speaking came from some factors. They are 1) Native language, 2) Age, 3) Exposure, and 4) Motivation, and 5) Learners’ Autonomy. Keywords: speaking, Indonesian EFL students, young learners

Abstract

This Community Service Program (PkM), designed to span one year, aims to enhance the competencies of elementary school English teachers in implementing the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5) within the framework of the Merdeka Curriculum. The program addresses various challenges teachers face in understanding and effectively applying the P5 concept in learning activities. A qualitative method with a case study approach was employed to assess the program's impact, utilizing data collected through interviews, observations, and analysis of teacher lesson plan documents. The findings indicate that participants demonstrated significant improvement in their understanding and application of the P5 concept in classroom settings during the implementation of PkM activities. Teachers were able to design and execute project-based learning aligned with the values of Pancasila and the Merdeka Curriculum. Classroom observations revealed increased student engagement in the learning process. Moreover, teachers showed greater confidence in integrating character education into their teaching. In conclusion, intensive training and mentoring effectively improved teachers’ competencies in implementing the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project. This progress significantly supports the successful implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in the participating elementary schools. The outcomes of this program are expected to contribute to the development of teacher training models that can support broader educational programs.

Abstract

The use of technology in English Language Teaching (ELT) has revolutionized the field of education by providing previously unheard-of chances for language acquisition. High school students in Indonesia who are learning English as a foreign language (EFL) stand to gain a great deal from technology-enhanced training. The purpose of this research is to examine how technology-enhanced instruction affects the language competency and learning outcomes of high school students in Indonesia. A quantitative method was used. Thirty-one Indonesian high school students were selected for the study using stratified random sampling. Speaking, reading, and writing language competency tests were among the ways used to obtain the data. Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 25 was used for data analysis, which included descriptive statistics and inferential statistics (t-tests). This study shows how technology-enhanced instruction can transform ELT in Indonesian high schools and offers stakeholders, educators, and policy-makers useful information for creating successful language learning initiatives. The results highlight the significance of using technology to improve language learning outcomes and have ramifications for language instruction around the world.
