Abstract

Variatifnya ragam konten media sosial yang berkembang di masyarakat harus bisa dipahami dengan bijak. Karenanya butuh pemahaman yang benar dan baik terkait komunikasi bencana melalui sosialisasi komunikasi efektif dengan penggunaaan bahasa yang santun, melalui pendekatan religi kepada masyarakat. Tujuan diadakannya program pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah agar masyarakat lebih mampu memahami konten media dan bagaimana menanggapinya serta apa yang harus dilakukan ketika menyebarkan informasi yang diterimanya melalui media digital. Oleh karena itu, perlu diadakan sosialisasi komunikasi efektif dengan bahasa santun di media online dengan pendekatan religi di Kelurahan Gedawang Kecamatan Banyumanik Kota Semarang. Sosialisasi dilaksanakan melalui kolaborasi dengan program kemitraan. Dipilih dua mitra yang aktif yaitu Majelis Taklim dan Kampung KB RW 2 yang mampu mengkoordinasikan warga masyarakat dan peduli pada kesejahteraan baik fisik maupun psikis. Hasil dari program pengabdian ini sangat diharapkan mampu membuka wawasan pada masyarakat terutama warga peserta majelis taklim Gedawang Banyumanik dalam berkomunikasi di dunia maya dan memahami beragam konten di media sosial sehingga mereka dapat lebih dewasa dan bijaksana dalam menyikapi hal tersebut. The variety of social media content that develops in society must be understood wisely. Therefore, a correct and good understanding of disaster communication is needed through the sosialization of effective communication with the use of polite language, through a religious approach to the community. The purpose of holding this community service program is so that people are better able to understand media content and how to respond to it and what to do when disseminating some information received through digital media. Therefore, it is necessary to socialize effective communication with polite language on online media with a religious approach in Gedawang, Banyumanik District, Semarang. Socialization is carried out in collaboration with a partnership program. Two active partners were chosen, namely Majelis Taklim and Kampung KB RW 2 who were able to coordinate community members and care for their physical and psychological well-being. The results of this community service program are expected to be able to open insights to the community, especially the members of the Gedawang Banyumanik majelis taklim participants in communicating in cyberspace and understanding various content on social media so that they can be more mature and wiser in responding to this.

Abstract

Anxiety is a topic mostly investigated in the field of foreign language education. Unfortunately, the main focus of the studies on the aforementioned topic has primarily been provided in relation to anxiety suffered by students not teachers. Anxiety in speaking English while teaching has been proven to be a separate obstacle to the success of the language teaching and learning. This still happens to teachers who even have years of teaching experience. This study aims to investigate the English language teaching anxiety as experienced by the pre-service teacher at the department. The FLTA questionnaire consisting of 27 out of 45 items was adopted to collect data. Since this study was carried out during the COVID-19 pandemic, the questionnaire was distributed to the participants via email. The analysis was then made by implementing the qualitative descriptive approach and simple quantification to support the description. The results show that there were five factors of anxiety occur during the program. They were teaching inexperience, self-perception of language proficiency, fear of negative evaluation, lack of student’s interest, and difficulty with time management. These findings are expected to become a reference for the efforts of developing an internship preparation program.

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate (1) the effectiveness of role-play and show-and-tell, and (2) which one was more effective between role-play and show-and-tell in grade 5 students’ speaking learning. It was an experimental study by randomized pretest-posttest control group design. The data were collected by a non-test of an observation. The instrument of the research was observation sheets completed by speaking rubric onLikert scale. The data were analyzed by using one-way ANOVA followed by the Scheffe test. The results of the research showed that: (1) role-play and show-and-tell were effective in grade 5 students’ speaking learning indicated by p < 0.05 and; (2) role-play was more effective than show-andtell indicated by p < 0.05.

Abstract

This study compared the impact of spaced instruction and massed instruction on learning collocations among Iranian EFL learners. To do so, 60 Iranian pre-intermediate EFL learners were selected among 90 students based on the results of Oxford Quick Placement Test (OQPT). The selected participants were then non-randomly divided into two equal experimental groups; spaced group and massed group. Afterwards, the researcher measured the participants’ collocations knowledge by administering a collocation pre-test. Then, 100 English collocations were instructed to the both experimental groups in the treatment phase of the study. After the instruction, a collocation post-test was administered to both groups and finally the data were analyzed by using paired and independent samples t-tests. The obtained results indicated that there was a significant difference between the post-tests of spaced and massed groups. The findings indicated that the spaced group significantly outperformed the massed group (p < .05) on the post-test. The implications of this study can make the teachers aware that teaching through spaced intervals can provide better results than teaching through one massed session.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to find out whether or not collaborative writing strategy is effective to improve students’ writing skill in descriptive text when they were applied to the tenth grade students of SMA N 1 Karangtengah in academic year of 2015/2016. The collaborative writing strategy was the independent variable, while students’ writing skill in descriptive text was the dependent variable. Quasi experimental research design was used in this study. The population of this study was the tenth graders of SMA N 1 Karangtengah in the academic year of 2015/2016 which the total number of students was 340. The sample of this study consisted of X MIA 3 as an experimental class and X MIA 4 as a control group. The technique used in collecting the data was test. The finding of the study showed that the pre-test mean score of experimental group was 69.38 and control group was 68.71. After being given treatment for four meetings, it was found that the mean scores of experimental group was 82.15 and control group was 76.32. The result of the analysis showed that there was a significant difference between the mean score of pre-test and post-test. It was supported by t-test result in which the significant difference in the result of post-test between experimental and control group was 0.000 (smaller than 0.05). It means that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. Therefore, it could be concluded that collaborative writing strategy were effective to improve students’s writing skill in descriptive text.

Abstract

The English Language Education Study Program of Sultan Agung Islamic University (Unissula) has formulated a vision to become a leading study program in building the generation of khaira ummah, developing science and technology on the basis of Islamic values, and building Islamic civilization towards a prosperous society blessed by Allah. The effort to realize this vision was carried out through the implementation of Islamic Academic Culture as an implementation of fostering students who gave birth to the best generation. This study aims to (1) find a student development management model based on Islamic Academic Culture at Sultan Agung Islamic University, (2) find a model of personality development competence in English Education Study Program students as prospective teachers. This research was conducted at Sultan Agung Islamic University. The study population was students of the English Language Study Program, Dean and Deputy Dean of Academic and Student Affairs. Data were collected through interviews, questionnaires and documentation. Data then were analyzed by descriptive analysis. The results of the study show that (1) The factual model that has been carried out by Unissula in student development is based on three guidelines in its management, namely Unissula's vision, Unissula's Strategic Plan (Renstra), and Islamic Academic Culture values. The student development program is generally carried out through three stages, namely the initial stage when new students enter, coaching is done through the Pekan Taaruf program, the second stage, when becoming a student, guidance is carried out through tutorials, reasoning, leadership, entrepreneurship, and interest-sharing programs. talent. In the third stage of training before graduation students, it is conducted through a debriefing program; (2) the model of Islamic Academic Culture-based student development is effectively used in an effort to improve the personal competence of English Education Study Program students.

Abstract

Kemampuan menulis guru di Indonesia tergolong rendah, hal ini dapat dibuktikan dengan tingkat publikasi ilmiah per tahunnya. Begitu banyak faktor yang menghambat para guru dalam berkarya. Salah satu alasan utama adalah permasalahan di mana guru belum mempunyai bekal yang cukup untuk memiliki kemampuan dan profesionalitas dalam hal kepenulisan. Permasalahan tersebut juga dialami oleh para guru Bahasa Inggris di lingkungan MGMP Kabupaten Grobogan dimana mereka kurang memperoleh update cara menulis ilmiah dan terlebih lagi bagaimana mempublikasikan karya mereka di era digital seperti ini. Jika ditilik lebih lanjut terdapat ketimpangan antara guru yang aktif menulis dan yang tidak aktif dalam bidang kepenulisan ilmiah. Tujuan diadakannya program pengabdian ini adalah untuk memberikan pendampingan kompetensi menulis bagi para guru sehingga para guru dapat saling bersinergi untuk membuahkan hasil karya sesuai dengan jengjang pendidikan yang mereka ampu yaitu jenjang SMP dan SMA. Metode pelaksanaan dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini meliputi beberapa aspek yaitu pendekatan dengan pihak MGMP Bahasa Inggris Kabupaten Grobogan melalui ketua rayon dan juga pihak penerbit Deepublish yang berada di Yogyakarta. Dari program ini didapatkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan motivasi menulis para guru. Selain dapat memberi angka kredit, karya guru tersebut nantinya akan dapat menjadi bahan ajar pendamping bagi para siswanya. Kegiatan dalam pengabdian ini sangat bermanfaat bagi MGMP Guru Bahasa Inggris Kabupaten Grobogan.The writing ability of teachers in Indonesia is relatively low, this can be proven by the level of scientific publications per year. There are so many factors that hinder teachers from working. One of the main reasons is the problem where teachers do not have sufficient provisions to have the ability and professionalism in terms of writing. This problem is also experienced by English teachers in the Grobogan Regency MGMP environment where they do not get updates on how to write scientifically and moreover how to publish their work in this digital era. If we look further, there is a gap between teachers who are active in writing and those who are not active in the field of scientific writing. The purpose of holding this service program is to provide writing competency assistance for teachers so that teachers can work together to produce works according to the level of education they are capable of, namely the junior high and high school levels. The implementation method of this community service activity includes several aspects, namely the approach with the English MGMP of Grobogan Regency through the rayon chairman and also the publisher Deepublish in Yogyakarta. From this program, it was found that there was an increase in the writing motivation of the teachers. Besides being able to give credit points, the teacher's work will later be able to become companion teaching materials for his students. Activities in this service are very useful for the Grobogan Regency English Teacher MGMP.

Abstract

This study aims to determine students' perceptions of using Quizizz as an English assessment medium. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method taken one month to collect data using close-ended questionnaire as the instrument. The sample used in this study was 3 classes in Grade 10 at SMA N 2 Semarang in the 2021/2022 academic year with a total of 108 students. From the data collection of the questionnaire distribution, it shows that 88.9% or 96 of students have positive perceptions and 5.6% or 6 of students have neutral perceptions, and 5,6% or 6 students have negative perceptions of the use of Quizizz as a medium for assessing English in their classes. It can be concluded that students in Grade 10 at SMA N 2 Semarang have a positive perception of the use of Quizizz. The students thought that the Quizizz media was a fun medium and very suitable to be used by teachers because the media was very interesting and practical to use for English assessment media.

Abstract

Kelurahan Pandean Lamper, Kecamatan Gayamsari, Semarang yang berjumlah 12 RW dan 105 RT, merupakan wilayah dengan penduduk kurang lebih 1.653.035 jiwa, sebagian besar bekerja sebagai petani dan karyawan swasta. Di kelurahan tersebut terdapat kejadian stunting, karenanya pemerintah desa menjalankan program edukasi pencegahan stunting bagi warganya. Adanya kejadian pandemi Covid-19 di Indonesia membuat program tersebut susah dan lambat dilaksanakan. Dengan adanya program pengabdian kepada masyarakat Universitas Islam Sultan Agung Semarang, penyuluhan stunting ini dilaksanakan. Tujuan program pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan para ibu seputar stunting di Indonesia khususnya di Kelurahan Pandean Lamper. Program dilaksanakan pada tanggal 29 Januari 2022 dengan memberikan edukasi dalam bentuk penyuluhan. Secara umum, program edukasi stunting dapat diterima dengan baik oleh peserta penyuluhan. Dari kegiatan ini diharapkan nantinya para masyarakat Kelurahan Pandean Lamper khususnya dan masyarakat Indonesia pada umumnya semakin menyadari pentingnya melakukan pencegahan terjadinya stunting dan pentingnya menjaga kesehatan diri dan lingkungannya.Pandean Lamper Village, Gayamsari District, Semarang, which has 12 RWs and 105 RTs, is an area with a population of approximately 1,653,035 people, most of whom work as farmers and private employees. There are cases of stunting in the kelurahan, therefore the village government runs a stunting prevention education program for its residents. The occurrence of the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia made the program difficult and slow to implement. With the community service program at Sultan Agung Islamic University, Semarang, stunting counseling was carried out. The aim of this community service program is to increase mothers' knowledge about stunting in Indonesia, especially in the Pandean Lamper Village. The program was carried out on January 29 2022 by providing education in the form of counseling. In general, the stunting education program was well received by extension participants. From this activity it is hoped that later the people of Pandean Lamper Village in particular and the Indonesian people in general will increasingly realize the importance of preventing stunting and the importance of maintaining personal health and their environment.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out whether the use of Chinese whisper game was effective to enhancein enhancing vocabulary mastery of young learners of the fifth graders of MI Nurul Huda Sidokumpul. The method of this research was quasi-experimental design because the researcher did not randomize on the sample. The sample of this research consisted of 25 students of class VA as the experimental group and 22 students of class VB as the control group. The researcher used pre-test and post-test for the control group and experimental group to collect the data. The researcher used SPSS v.16.0 software program to analyze the data. The researcher used three steps in this research. They were: pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The result of the pretest and post-test of the experimental group were 58.76 and 91.84, while the result of the pre-test and post-test of the control group were 60.36 and 70. 27. The result of the analysis showed that sig (2-tailed) was 0.000 (or <0.05. It means that there was a significant difference between the two means of post-test. It was concluded that H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted. Therefore, using the Chinese Whisper Game was effective to enhance the vocabulary mastery of young learners.
