Abstract

ABSTRACT This study attempts to examine the social dimension contained in various selfie photos, for instance; selfie photo of the public, celebrity, endorse or promotion, academician, and politician. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach by using literature study. The theory and method used in this study are the semiology of Roland Barthes. Roland Barthes's theory and semiology method consist of one-tier semiology in the form of denotative image and two-tier semiology that contains connotative image. In each layer of semiology there is still other semiological elements. Based on the research that has been done, every selfie photo that is generally considered normal, apparently contains a rich code if analysed through a semiological perspective of Roland Barthes. In addition, various elements contained in Roland Barthes's semiology are able to show various dimensions contained in selfie photos, including psychological, cultural and particularly social dimension. Furthermore, this research shows that the richest selfie photo code is found in celebrity selfie photo, while the poorest selfie photo code is found in academician photo. Additionaly, most of the selfie photos studied tend to converge their form as a paradox, namely in celebrity selfie photo, endorse, and academician. While selfie photo of the public and politician converge their form as a paradoxical representation. Suggestions in this study are, the selfie actor should be careful in displaying the code in the selfie image since the codes can be interpreted freely by other parties so that it generates a different meaning from the intended initial meaning. Abstract

This research attempted to analyze the self-identity constructed by fashion, but this identity is a camouflage because relying on the certain symbols that is artificial, in which it is able to trap the society in experiencing the unnecessary consumptive lifestyle. This study applied descriptive explanative type of qualitative approach with the analysis of the consumer society theory by Jean P. Baudrillard. The result showed that adolescents in post-modern era tend to use fashion as a means in creating an adhesive identity to themselves. Recently, adolescents try to attract more attention from their surroundings and can be seen distinctly from their own characteristics. Therefore, adolescents have particular meaning of fashion, which one of them is fashion as a means of self-expression and the growth of self-confidence on the actor. In addition, fashion also gives the impact for the actor, both social and economic impact. From social impact they will perceive as more famous person and will be considered in their social interaction and has a connection for their field of hobbies and work with the people who have the same interests. On the other hand, some adolescents perceive the negative social impact, such as being insulted from other people who are less agree with the different appearance with the uncommon fashion. Hereafter, the economic impact that is perceived by adolescents is being improvident to buy famous branded items with irrational prices to give a perfect support for their appearance. However, most adolescents outsmart this by shopping in the thrift shop (flea market), where they can obtain branded items with low prices, in order to avoid to be improvident. Hence, some of the adolescents in Denpasar are smart consumer, because they are not fully co-opted by the logic of late capitalism, namely, the logic of improvident fashion. Abstract

ABSTRACT   The aims of this study are to determine the feminism contains of the Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk Trilogy novel by Ahmad Tohari, to understand the position of Srintil character as subject, object, the author's viewpoint as well as the reader's viewpoint which based on the feminist discourse analysis method by Sara Mills. The results of discourse analysis on Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk novel show that Srintil placed as subject because of her superiority in economic, social, and psychological as well as successfully opposing the social order which restricting her expression of life, which rejecting all rules of “peronggengan” sphere. At her position as an object, shown Srintil while she was flirted, touched on her body, maligned, scorned, threatened by her status as a ex-prisoner, more over she used as a tool or a doll to meet the demand of actors around her, either in material or satisfying the desires of men. In the author's viewpoint, Ahmad Tohari is also more inclined to show Srintil as an object position by a lot of sentence structure which using herself and Rasus figure as the first person pronoun, so as the main character, Srintil can not tell her own self. Meanwhile, according to the reader’s viewpoint, Srintil figure shown more in the object position than the subject position. Abstract

ABSTRACT The development of K-Pop music in Indonesia has its own appeal because of the visualization of K-Pop stars is increasingly popular. This made fans who initially only enjoyed K-Pop music slowly begin to follow the choreography of K-Pop stars when on stage. There are two points of view regarding the attractiveness of cover dance. First the attraction of cover dance is the totality of people who cover dance. Second, the euphoria of K-Pop fans when watching people who cover dance appear on stage. Through the cover dance the fans express their love by imitating the idol, suggesting that they are like the idol, then slowly they begin to be identified and sympathize with each other in their interactions with colleagues who cover dance or with K-Pop fans.
