Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused various aspects of life in the world to experience quite drastic changes, especially health aspects. Studies show that there has been a decrease in the number of immunization services in health facilities by 84% as a result of the pandemic and the Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) policy implemented by the government. In many countries, low immunization coverage can be caused by several factors, including geographic barriers that cause disparities between urban and rural areas. A study found much lower vaccination rates in children living in rural areas compared to urban areas. This inequality in vaccine coverage rates can be overcome, one of the ways is by increasing knowledge about vaccines. This activity aims to increase community capacity regarding basic immunization programs during the pandemic. It is hoped that the results of this activity can act as a basis for consideration for regional and national policy making regarding health promotion and education in order to increase community capacity in the context of basic immunization programs. The outreach activity was held at the Narmada Community Health Center, West Lombok Regency in September 2021. Participants in the activity were the local community consisting of mothers of productive age who were either pregnant or planning to become pregnant, midwives and local community leaders. However, due to the second wave of COVID-19, the activity mechanism was facilitated through digital media. The enthusiasm of the activity participants was so good that the number of participants exceeded the initial target. Activity participants watched educational videos and were able to master the material presented well. This is proven by an increase in the post test scores obtained by participants compared to the pre test scores. Apart from that, through this activity five educational video episodes were produced with various themes related to basic immunization during the pandemic which were distributed via the YouTube channel. The activity succeeded in increasing community capacity regarding basic immunization programs during the pandemic. This will be the basis for the team's consideration in making recommendations for regional and national policies regarding health promotion and education in order to increase community capacity in the context of basic immunization programs.

Abstract

Teenage girls who are anemic are at risk of developing anemia during pregnancy, which negatively affects fetal growth and development and can lead to complications during pregnancy and childbirth, including maternal and infant death. Anemia is also a major contributor to stunting in newborns of anemic mothers. Therefore, efforts to prevent and treat anemia in women of reproductive age are very important. Health promotion activities through FGDs to improve the cognitive (knowledge), affective (attitude) and psychomotor (behavior) of adolescent girls regarding the prevention and control of anemia, especially regarding the importance of TTD consumption, are expected to reduce the prevalence of anemia in adolescent girls and ultimately reduce stunting rates. Methods: Forty-eight teenage girls selected through multistage random sampling from several junior high schools in Mataram that were participating in the blood additive tablet (TTD) program were intervened with health promotion activities using the focus group discussion (FGD) method, and knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors were measured before and after the intervention. Activities were conducted during June-September 2023. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. Results: There was an increase in cognitive affective and psychomotor skills of the respondents after FGD activities. At the beginning of the activity, the average cognitive score (knowledge) of adolescent girls about anemia was still low, which was around 58.5 shown by 65.3% of respondents. The average cognitive score (knowledge) increased to 87.5 for most (87.6%) of the respondents. The majority of the respondents had a positive attitude (affective) (97.3%) towards anemia and its prevention before the FGD activity, after the FGD activity the positive attitude of the respondents was 100%. Most of the respondents also did not apply good action (psychomotor) in preventing anemia (86.7%) and only 13.3% applied good action before conducting FGDs. After the FGD, 76.5% of the respondents, after the FGD activity, the positive attitude of the respondents was 100%. Most of the respondents also had not taken good (psychomotor) measures to prevent anemia (86.7%) and only 13.3% had taken good measures before the FGD. After the FGD activities, 76.5% of the respondents experienced an improvement in their anemia prevention efforts. Conclusion: There is a significant increase in cognitive affective and psychomotor in teenage girls related to iron deficiency anemia in preventive efforts to reduce stunting.

Abstract

Background Maternal mental health during pregnancy and postpartum is a crucial factor impacting the well-being of both mother and baby. Maternal depression can occur during pregnancy (antenatal depression) or after delivery (postpartum depression). Antenatal depression can affect various aspects of maternal health, including nutritional status, which is a crucial factor in maintaining maternal health and fetal development. Furthermore, approximately 33% of women with postpartum depression have symptom onset during pregnancy, and 27% even before pregnancy. Health promotion through seminars or group-based interventions can significantly improve participants' knowledge levels over a period of time. Considering the importance of health promotion efforts as a preventative measure against maternal depression and the limited research evaluating knowledge retention of pregnant and postpartum mothers after group-based interventions such as health seminars, this study was conducted to assess maternal knowledge retention after two months of seminars on maternal depression. Methods The research design used in this study was a quasi-experimental design. Initial measurements were taken by assessing posttest 1 scores immediately after the seminar and compared with posttest 2 scores measured two months after the seminar. Results The decrease in posttest 2 scores compared to posttest 1 was less than 40% (p-value <0.05), indicating that a two-month period is still ideal for maintaining respondents' knowledge. Factors influencing the study's outcomes included respondents' age, education level, and gestational status. Conclusion Therefore, the seminar method is considered appropriate for increasing public literacy regarding maternal depression.
