Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan (1) mengetahui pengaruh motivasi intrinsik terhadap prestasi belajar Bahasa Inggris Maritim di taruna semester 3 Politeknik Pelayaran Banten, (2) mengetahui pengaruh motivasi ekstrinsik terhadap prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris maritim di taruna semester 3 Politeknik Pelayaran Banten, (3) mengukur pengaruh motivasi intrinsik dan ekstrinsik secara simultan terhadap prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris maritim di taruna semester 3 Politeknik Pelayaran Banten. Metode yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif dengan pendekatan korelasi, teknik pengumpulan melalui observasi maupun angket. uji instrumen penelitian terdiri dari uji validitas dan uji reliabilitas, untuk uji asumsi klasik terdiri dari uji normalitas uji, multikorelitas dan uji heteroskedastisitas. Uji simultan (F) dan Uji parsial (t) digunakan dalam menganalisis regresi data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) Tidak terdapat pengaruh motivasi intrinsic terhadap prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris maritim Taruna semester 3 Politeknik Pelayaran Banten; (2) tidak terdapat Pengaruh Motivasi ekstrinsik terhadap prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris maritim Taruna semester 3 Politeknik Pelayaran Banten; (3) tidak terdapat pengaruh motivasi intrinsik dan motivasi ekstrinsik terhadap prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris maritim Taruna semester 3 Politeknik Pelayaran Banten.

Abstract

This research goal was to determine the validity and reliability of the Maritime English proficiency test conducted by PUKP 02 in Banten Merchant Marine Polytechnic. The questions were given in the form of multiple choices. This research is categorized as descriptive analysis because it is intended to describe the level of difficulty, distraction power, validity, and reliability of the Maritime English test for third-grade students in the Maritime vocational school in the 2019/2020 academic year by analyzing the validity and reliability of each item. This study concludes: 1) The Validity for the nautical studies there were 43 item items or 71.66% of the total were valid. In the Engineering studies, there are 41 items or 68.33% of the total were valid. 2) The nautical reliability was found to be 0.5968, while for the technical department of 0.6789, the figures were at intervals of 0.40 to 0.70 with moderate interpretation. Thus, it can be concluded that the Maritime English proficiency test has sufficient validity and reliability.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendalami proses pendaftaran kapal, yang penting untuk keselamatan dan keamanan transportasi laut serta pelestarian lingkungan laut. Metode yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa wawancara. Data yang diperoleh dijelaskan dalam paragraf yang mencakup pentingnya tanda kebangsaan kapal dan proses penggantian kapal berbendera asing menjadi berbendera Indonesia. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa proses penggantian bendera kapal melibatkan tahapan administrasi di luar negeri, pengajuan bukti kepada pejabat RI, dan pendaftaran di Indonesia setelah kapal dicoret dari daftar kapal negara asal. Jika ditemukan pelanggaran prosedur penggunaan awak kapal, perusahaan pelayaran harus ditindak tegas.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kepuasan perusahaan pelayaran terhadap kinerja kadet Politeknik Pelayaran Banten selama pelaksanaan praktik laut. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif deskriptif dengan pengumpulan data melalui kuesioner berbasis skala Likert yang disebarkan kepada 141 responden, terdiri atas staf rekrutmen perusahaan pelayaran dan perwira pembina di kapal. Kinerja kadet dievaluasi melalui enam dimensi utama, yaitu pengetahuan dan keterampilan teknis, sikap dan etika kerja, keselamatan dan keamanan, kemampuan manajerial dan kepemimpinan, keterampilan interpersonal, serta pengembangan diri dan profesionalisme. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan statistik deskriptif berbasis persentase dan regresi linier untuk mengidentifikasi kontribusi masing-masing dimensi terhadap tingkat kepuasan perusahaan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat kepuasan perusahaan pelayaran berada pada kategori sangat baik, dengan nilai rata-rata keseluruhan 87,47%. Dimensi pengetahuan dan keterampilan teknis memiliki pengaruh paling signifikan terhadap kepuasan perusahaan, diikuti oleh sikap dan etika kerja. Meskipun demikian, beberapa aspek masih memerlukan peningkatan, khususnya pemahaman hukum maritim, pengambilan keputusan dalam situasi kritis, serta kebiasaan pengembangan diri secara profesional. Temuan ini memberikan implikasi penting bagi penguatan kurikulum dan strategi pembelajaran praktik laut guna meningkatkan kesiapan lulusan dalam memenuhi kebutuhan industri pelayaran. This study aims to analyze shipping companies’ satisfaction with the performance of cadets from the Banten Shipping Polytechnic during sea training. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed, with data collected through Likert-scale questionnaires distributed to 141 respondents, consisting of recruitment staff from shipping companies and supervising officers on board. Cadet performance was assessed based on six key dimensions: technical knowledge and skills, work attitude and ethics, safety and security, managerial and leadership abilities, interpersonal skills, and self-development and professionalism. Data were analyzed using percentage-based descriptive statistics and linear regression analysis to examine the contribution of each dimension to overall company satisfaction. The findings indicate that shipping companies’ satisfaction with cadet performance falls within the very high category, with an overall average score of 87.47%. Among the evaluated dimensions, technical knowledge and skills exert the strongest influence on company satisfaction, followed by work attitude and ethics. However, several areas require further improvement, particularly in maritime law comprehension, decision-making under critical conditions, and continuous professional development. These results highlight the importance of strengthening sea-training curricula and instructional strategies to better align maritime vocational education with industry expectations.

Abstract

LPG gas leaks are a serious threat that can trigger fires and endanger human safety. To overcome this problem, this study designed a prototype gas leak detection system based on the Arduino Uno microcontroller using the MQ-9 sensor. This sensor has high sensitivity to LPG, carbon monoxide, and methane. The system is designed to detect gas leaks automatically and in real-time, and provide early warnings through a buzzer sound, a gas level display on a 16x2 LCD, and an exhaust fan activation to reduce gas concentrations in the air. This study uses an Engineering Research approach and goes through the stages of needs analysis, design, implementation, and system testing. The test results show that the system is able to respond quickly and effectively to the presence of hazardous gases, thus potentially improving safety and preventing accidents due to gas leaks in closed environments.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of technical personnel management in handling main engine failures during extreme weather conditions at sea. The main focus of this study is to assess the extent to which technical competence, communication, coordination, and preparedness of technical personnel contribute to the effectiveness of damage management. The method used is a descriptive quantitative approach with data collection through a closed-ended questionnaire based on a Likert scale. A total of 100 respondents who are ship engineering officers currently studying at a maritime campus were sampled. The results of the analysis show that the four independent variables (technical competence, communication, coordination, and preparedness) simultaneously have a significant effect on the effectiveness of handling main engine failures. From the results of the multiple linear regression test, the coefficient of determination (R²) value of 0.897 indicates that 89.7% of the variation in damage management effectiveness can be explained by these four variables. This finding indicates that good technical personnel management plays a significant role in reducing the risk of engine system failure during extreme weather.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the validity and reliability of the Maritime English proficiency test organized by PUKP (Seafarer Expertise Exam) 02 Banten and its surroundings. Research method was used is descriptive analysis because it aims to explain the level of difficulty, discriminatory power, as well as the validity and reliability of exam questions for 3rd grade students at the Maritime School. The results showed that there were 43 valid exam questions in the Nautical department or about 71.66% of the total questions, with a correlation value greater than Rtable 0.1071 with a significance level of 5%. As for the Engineering department, there are 41 valid exam questions or 68.33% of the total questions, with a correlation value greater than Rtable 0.2483 with a significance level of 5%. For the reliability of the test questions in the Nautical department of 0.5968 and the Engineering department 0.6789 with an interval between 0.40 to 0.70 with moderated interpretation. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Maritime English exam questions used are quite valid and reliable. Keywords: validity, reliability, proficiency test, maritime English.

Abstract

Global growth necessitates that students achieve proficiency in English as a requisite competency for graduation. Proficiency in English must be demonstrated with a certificate, such as a TOEFL certificate, with a minimum needed score. This prerequisite was problematic for non-English major students, as they had only studied English in the initial semester. Nonetheless, the requirement was in the last semester. Consequently, a community service program in the form of a TOEFL preparation program was essential for equipping students with the requisite English abilities to achieve a passing score. Following the dissemination of the data, the participants in this activity comprised 228 third-grade students from a vocational university in Indonesia. The program comprised two weeks and included a pretest, an introduction, training (including listening comprehension, structure and written expression, and reading comprehension), a posttest, and a survey. The activity’s findings indicated that the program improved students’ TOEFL scores relative to their original scores. However, a number of students have failed to meet the minimum required score. It is recommended that the community service program be conducted periodically to aid students in enhancing their English skills.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang dan mengimplementasikan prototype sistem pengendalian gerbang geser otomatis berbasis Arduino Uno dengan integrasi RFID, remote control RF, dan sensor ultrasonik HY-SRF05. Latar belakang penelitian ini didasarkan pada kebutuhan akan sistem keamanan dan kenyamanan akses yang lebih efisien dibandingkan sistem gerbang manual atau sistem otomatis konvensional yang masih memiliki keterbatasan dalam hal keamanan akses dan deteksi hambatan. Rumusan masalah meliputi bagaimana merancang sistem dengan dua mode kontrol (RFID dan remote control) serta bagaimana memastikan sensor ultrasonik dapat mendeteksi objek penghalang untuk mencegah kecelakaan. Sistem dirancang untuk meningkatkan efisiensi, keamanan, dan kenyamanan dalam pengoperasian gerbang melalui dua mode kontrol: menggunakan kartu RFID atau remote control. Sensor ultrasonik berfungsi sebagai pengaman dengan mendeteksi keberadaan objek di jalur gerbang untuk mencegah penutupan otomatis yang berpotensi membahayakan. Metode penelitian menggunakan pendekatan Engineering Research dengan tahapan studi literatur, analisis kebutuhan, perancangan sistem, pembangunan prototype, pengujian komponen, pengujian sistem terintegrasi, dan dokumentasi. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa prototype dapat bekerja secara otomatis dalam membuka/menutup gerbang dengan responsif, mendeteksi objek penghalang pada jarak 2-10 cm, serta memberikan respons melalui indikator buzzer. Kebaruan penelitian ini terletak pada integrasi tiga subsistem (RFID untuk otentikasi, RF remote untuk kenyamanan jarak jauh, dan sensor ultrasonik untuk keselamatan) dalam satu prototype dengan konfigurasi pin yang dioptimalkan serta program terintegrasi. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat menjadi referensi bagi pengembangan sistem keamanan akses otomatis di lingkungan perkantoran dan perumahan.
