Abstract

Metabolomics has emerged as a critical field in understanding biological processes and disease mechanisms, necessitating advancements in analytical techniques to handle complex biological samples. This review explores the global landscape of metabolomics, with a focus on the use of spectroscopy and spectrometry. Techniques such as UV-Vis and Fourier Transform InfraRed (FTIR) spectroscopy offer fast and cost-effective metabolite tracing but are limited by their sensitivity, particularly for low-abundance metabolites. Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, despite being less sensitive than mass spectrometry (MS), provides unparalleled structural information, distinguishing metabolites with similar mass-to-charge ratios. NMR's capability to detect metabolites in the 1-10 µM range highlights its effectiveness in metabolomics. This review categorizes advancements in these techniques, starting with global contributions to spectroscopy, followed by detailed discussions on FTIR strategies for metabolite tracing, and concluding with NMR's qualitative and quantitative applications in metabolomics and disease diagnostics. The review underscores the continuous development in sample preparation and data integration, enhancing the accuracy and applicability of these techniques, positioning NMR and FTIR as essential tools in modern metabolomic research.

The distinctive properties of MSNs, such as their high surface area, tunable pore size, and versatile surface chemistry, make them ideal candidates for various biomedical applications. This review aims to present a detailed understanding of MSNs, from synthesis and characterization to their versatile applications in biomedicine, highlighting their significant potential in advancing healthcare technologies. The synthesis methods for MSNs were comprehensively discussed, emphasizing the influence of parameters like solvent, base, alkoxysilane concentrations, and template surfactants on the size and shape of the nanostructures. Different types of MSNs, including MCM-41, SBA-15, KIT-6, and hollow MSNs, are discussed, along with their synthesis protocols and unique characteristics. The review also covers various spectroscopic techniques, such as XRD, XPS, FTIR, NMR, and fluorescence spectroscopy, which are crucial for characterizing MSNs. Furthermore, the biomedical applications of MSNs are highlighted, demonstrating their potential in drug delivery systems, imaging, and diagnostics. The review concludes with a discussion of the future perspectives and challenges in the field, providing insights into potential developments and the prospects for clinical translation.

Abstract

Abstract

The influence of the utilization of chemical fertilizers on agricultural land has a negative impact on the environment since it can reduce soil fertility and pollute air and water. Currently, the use of chemical fertilizers is starting to be reduced. The development of organic fertilizers derived from natural ingredients began to be developed, where the advantages of using organic fertilizers are easy to obtain, environmentally friendly, and low production costs. The Community Empowerment Assistance Lecturer Program was carried out in Tuwung Village, Pulang Pisau Regency, Central Kalimantan. This program is carried out in order to empower farmers as an effort to increase the productivity of their agricultural products. The aims of this program are; 1). Provide training to farmers related to how to make liquid organic fertilizer from purun plants; and 2).  Determine the effectiveness of the implementation of training on increasing farmers' knowledge in making liquid organic fertilizer. Training activities were presented to the introduction of purun plants and their potential as materials for making liquid organic fertilizer. Next, the activity continued with a demonstration of how to make liquid organic fertilizer from purun plants. Finally, the farmers were asked to practice directly making liquid organic fertilizer. The results of this training had an positive response on the knowledge and skills of farmers in Tuwung Village, Pulang Pisau Regency, in making liquid organic fertilizer. In addition, this activity is considered effective and efficient based on the results of the evaluation in accordance with the target achievement.

Abstract

Kelakai (Stenochlaena palustris), a plant native to Central Kalimantan, is recognized for its potent antioxidant properties. This study aimed to investigate the preparation, extraction, phytochemical composition, antioxidant potential, and molecular interactions of secondary metabolites derived from Kelakai, emphasizing its health-promoting benefits and possible use as a natural growth enhancer. The findings revealed that the Kelakai extract contained various secondary metabolites, including alkaloids (8.868%), flavonoids (5.3%), saponins (10.76%), phenolics (1.246%), tannins (0.067%), and triterpenes (30.7%). The extract demonstrated a powerful antioxidant effect, with an IC50 value of 44.81 μg/mL. Molecular docking analysis identified chlorogenic acid and eucalyptol as essential compounds contributing to the extract's antioxidant activity. These compounds effectively inhibit the iNOS protein, with binding free energy (ΔGbinding) values of -10.3044 kcal/mol and -6.0872 kcal/mol, respectively. These findings suggest that kelakai extract possesses significant antioxidant potential and may offer valuable applications as a natural growth promoter for broiler chickens.
