Abstract

This study investigates the impact of knowledge about environmental pollution on the behavior of single-use plastic use in academic environments, specifically at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Pattimura University, Ambon. Involving students of the social science education program, the study used a survey approach with data collected from September 11 to October 11, 2023. Knowledge was measured using the Guttman scale, while the behavior of single-use plastic use was evaluated through a Likert questionnaire. The analysis showed a significant relationship between knowledge about environmental pollution and students' behavior of single-use plastic use. Although most respondents had adequate knowledge, the use of single-use plastic was still high, highlighting the need to improve sustainable practices. Regression analysis strengthened this finding by confirming the significant influence between knowledge and behavior. Recommendations include developing more intensive education programs and campaigns on the negative impacts of single-use plastics and providing environmentally friendly alternatives. Collaboration between educational institutions, government, and the community is expected to create a more sustainable environment.

Abstract

This research examines the functional shift of sidewalks into merchant kiosks on Mardika Beach Road, Sirimau District, Ambon. The research type used is a survey method with quantitative and qualitative approaches. The research location is on Mardika Beach Road, with the implementation time from November 16 to December 16, 2023. The research population consisted of 30 merchant kiosks, with a purposive sample of 20 people. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, documentation, and data analysis. The study results show that the functional shift of sidewalks at Mardika Terminal has positive and negative impacts that need to be considered balanced. Positively, the functional change of sidewalks into trading areas provides economic opportunities for local communities to develop small businesses, create new jobs, and promote economic growth. However, on the other hand, the functional shift of sidewalks has reduced the effectiveness and comfort of pedestrian paths. The sidewalks from Mardika Beach Bridge to the small port have been used as trading locations, resulting in discomfort for pedestrians. Uncontrolled economic activities also impact traffic congestion and environmental cleanliness issues due to scattered waste. Thus, a balance between economic growth and public convenience can be optimally achieved in the Mardika Terminal area, Ambon.

Abstract

This study evaluates the quality and quantity of clean water available for domestic needs in Rutong Village, South Leitimur District, Ambon City. This study uses a quantitative descriptive research approach to provide a comprehensive overview of the clean water situation in the area. The population of this study comprises the residents of Rutong Village, with samples randomly selected from 10 households using Water Waihula and Water Cabang Dua or Saplaring. Data collection techniques include observation, documentation, and interviews. Quality analysis of clean water involves laboratory tests covering physical, biological, and chemical measurements. Quantity analysis is conducted through water flow rate calculations while predicting water demand utilizing equations based on population and standard water requirements per individual. Test results indicate that the quality of clean water in Rutong Village meets the standards set by Permenkes No. 32 of 2017. All physical, chemical, and biological parameters comply with permissible maximum standards, including odour, taste, TDS, turbidity, temperature, colour, iron, hardness, chloride, zinc, and coliform bacteria. However, despite meeting quality standards, it was found that the quantity of clean water available still needs to meet the community's needs sufficiently. On average, residents can only use 120 litres of water per day, indicating a need for improvement in the clean water supply to adequately meet the community's needs.

Abstract

Kisar Island, rich in natural diversity, is covered by Lontar trees, which account for nearly a quarter of its area. In the village of East Oirata, staple crops such as corn and Lontar trees are crucial assets for most residents who rely on agriculture and fishing. Although the Lontar tree, known as the tree of 800 uses, has yet to be fully optimized, the processing of Lontar contributes to the local economy. Lontar palm sugar, which is highly nutritious, supports the growing market trend for more natural products. The people of Kisar Island, particularly in East Oirata Village, are striving to enhance the marketing of Kisar palm sugar through innovation and government support, seeing it as an economic opportunity that can improve their well-being. The qualitative research method is an approach that focuses on investigating the conditions of natural objects. Utilizing positivism or interpretive philosophy, the researcher acts as the primary instrument. A holistic understanding is provided through data triangulation, such as observations, interviews, and documentation. Unlike quantitative research, qualitative research produces descriptive and interpretative data processed inductively. This approach allows for in-depth analysis of phenomena, with flexibility and complexity in understanding social, cultural, or behavioural realities. The production process of Lontar palm sugar in East Oirata Village relies heavily on the availability of quality Lontar trees, local knowledge, and experience. Production costs include fixed and variable expenses, with sales significantly contributing to family income. SWOT analysis reveals strengths in resources and capital, weaknesses in production support limitations, opportunities from government attention and high consumer demand, and threats to the availability of supporting materials

Abstract

Indonesia's coastal areas have abundant natural resources that need to be preserved in a planned manner. The implementation of development in a region has a different portion that causes an imbalance of economic activities in the region where the concentration of population in the coastal area has a diversity of service facilities and services. Coastal communities, especially those who work as fishermen, are closely related to poverty which is related to complex problems, where the cause is inequality of access and resources. The purpose of this research is to analyze the development of the region and the perceptions of relevant stakeholders so that it can be expected to formulate directions for the development of coastal areas in poverty reduction. The method used is a scalogram analysis to see the level of development of an area based on the completeness of infrastructure. The results of the analysis show that area IV (Karimunjawa Sub-district) is a priority area for coastal development. This is because the availability of infrastructure is a top priority in planning the development of an area. Poverty alleviation in coastal areas is carried out by community empowerment methods based on the potential of community character by changing the mindset in finding work so that it can generate sustainable income. Abstract

The policy in dividing the KBI and KTI regions is intended to avoid development imbalances that occur in Indonesia. Development in Eastern Indonesia is considered disproportionate and only focused on the Western Region. But now the priority of regional development will be focused on Eastern Indonesia. As a large city in North Sulawesi that is included in Eastern Indonesia, Manado has a strategic location as an investment gateway to economic growth in Eastern Indonesia, this is the background for the development plan of Mapanget sub-district which is included in the Manado City area to become a new city center. This research aims to assess the feasibility of the Mapanget area as the object of this strategic project. The method used was a literature study in combination with the availability of secondary data obtained from research, records and provisions related to the analysis of new city development. Based on the results of the various elements of new city development such as residential areas, health and education facilities, trade, services and industry, and population accessibility have experienced large growth in the period (2007-2019) or in the last twelve years. In terms of development planning, there are also complete guidelines that are based on an in-depth study of various aspects, so it can be concluded that Mapanget Sub-district is strategic enough for the development of a New City in Eastern Indonesia.
