Abstract

In every classroom, there are some students who perform better than their peers and are even very successful in most of their subjects. They are known as high-achieving students. They are grade conscious and sensitive to their teacher’s qualities. However, data from PISA 2012 shows that teachers in Indonesia cannot meet the needs of high-achieving students. High-achieving students tend to put high expectations on their teachers. From a Christian perspective, they study  wholeheartedly and Christian teachers need to guide these high-achieving students so they can reach their maximum potential in a way that is pleasing to God. The purpose of this literature review is to examine what high-achieving students need from their teachers. There are five needs that high-achieving students need to have provided by their teachers: challenging assignments, self-acknowledgement, encouragement, opportunity to join in academic competitions, and learning community involvement. The responsibilities of teachers of high-achieving students should not stop with showing professionalism in meeting their expectations, but should include helping these students learn the right way of studying that is pleasing to God and not self-centered in achieving their own goals.ABSTRAK BAHASA INDONESIA: Di setiap ruang kelas, terdapat siswa-siswa yang menunjukkan performa akademik yang lebih baik dari teman-temannya atau bahkan sangat berhasil dalam semua mata pelajaran. Mereka dikenal sebagai anak yang berprestasi tinggi. Mereka sangat peduli terhadap nilai dan sensitif terhadap kualitas guru. Namun, data dari PISA 2012 menunjukkan bahwa guru-guru di Indonesia tidak dapat memenuhi kebutuhan anak-anak yang berprestasi tinggi. Anak-anak yang berprestasi tinggi cenderung menaruh ekspektasi yang tinggi dari gurunya. Dari sudut pandang Kristiani, apa yang mereka lakukan adalah salah satu bentuk pertanggungjawaban iman untuk belajar dengan sepenuh hati dan guru Kristen perlu untuk membimbing anak berprestasi tinggi dalam mencapai potensi maksimal dari diri mereka di jalan yang berkenan di hadapan Tuhan. Tujuan dari kajian literatur ini adalah untuk menguji apa yang diperlukan oleh anak berprestasi tinggi dari guru mereka. Terdapat lima kebutuhan anak berprestasi tinggi yang perlu disediakan dari guru mereka; tugas yang menantang, pengakuan diri, dukungan, kesempatan untuk bergabung dan dukungan dalam kompetensi akademik, keterlibatan dari komunitas belajar. Tanggung jawab guru Kristen tidak hanya berhenti dalam menunjukkan profesionalitas untuk memenuhi ekspektasi mereka, tapi juga membawa mereka ke jalan yang benar dan berkenan bagi Tuhan dalam belajar yaitu dengan tidak menjadi berpusat hanya kepada diri sendiri dalam mencapai tujuan mereka.

Abstract

Mathematics is an important part of education. Through mathematics learning, students are expected to think systematically, logically, critically, creatively and consistently. Often when learning math, however, students make mistakes. These errors, when viewed plainly are reasonable mistakes. Nevertheless, they should not be allowed to happen continuously. If the errors are left unchecked, then the process of developing students’ knowledge will not improve. Based on observations in the grade 8A class at Sekolah Lentara Harapan in Medan, students usually made mistakes in solving mathematics problems. This study aims to analyze the types of errors made by students in solving mathematics problem and the causes of those mistakes. The research method used was the qualitative research method. The researcher gathered data through tests, interviews, and observations. Tests and observations data were gathered from 35 students in class 8 A. The subjects were 6 students who were chosen based on their results and certain criteria. Afterward, they were interviewed about their test results to gather further information about the types of errors and the factors which caused the error. The mistakes then were analyzed based on the types of errors using Newman’s procedures which are (1) reading errors, (2) comprehension errors, (3) transformation errors, (4) process skills errors, and (5) encoding errors.  The results showed that students performed all types of errors. Factors which caused students to make those errors were that they did not understand the meaning of symbols used, they used several symbols incorrectly, they could not to read the symbol, they forgot the proper formulas to be used, they wrote the formula in a rush, they did not master the pre-requisite topic of algebra arithmetic operation, they were careless, and they did the test in a rush.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRAK: Pelajaran matematika merupakan salah satu bagian penting dalam bidang pendidikan. Melalui pembelajaran matematika, siswa diharapkan dapat melatih cara berpikir secara sistematis, logis, kritis, kreatif dan konsisten. Dalam kenyataannya, sering kali ketika belajar matematika, siswa melakukan kesalahan-kesalahan. Kesalahan-kesalahan ini jika dilihat secara kasat mata merupakan kesalahan-kesalahan yang wajar. Tetapi tentunya kesalahan ini tidak boleh dibiarkan terjadi terus-menerus. Jika kesalahan tersebut dibiarkan, maka proses pengembangan pengetahuan siswa tidak akan berjalan dengan baik. Berdasarkan observasi di kelas VIII A SLH Medan, siswa sering melakukan kesalahan pada saat mengerjakan soal-soal matematika. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis jenis-jenis kesalahan yang dilakukan oleh siswa dalam mengerjakan soal matematika materi fungsi serta faktor penyebabnya. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian kualitatif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan tes, wawancara dan observasi partisipatif. Tes dan observasi dilakukan di kelas VIII A yang terdiri dari 35 siswa. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari 6 siswa yang dipilih berdasarkan hasil tes dengan kriteria tertentu kemudian diwawancarai terkait hasil pekerjaannya untuk memperoleh informasi yang lebih jelas mengenai jenis kesalahan yang dilakukan serta faktor yang menyebabkan terjadinya kesalahan tersebut. Kesalahan yang dilakukan oleh siswa dianalisis berdasarkan jenis-jenis kesalahan pada prosedur Newman yang terdiri dari (1) kesalahan membaca soal, (2) kesalahan memahami masalah, (3) kesalahan transformasi, (4) kesalahan keterampilan proses dan (5) kesalahan penulisan jawaban. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa melakukan semua jenis kesalahan tersebut. Faktor penyebabnya adalah siswa tidak mengerti makna simbol, terdapat simbol-simbol tertentu yang tidak dapat dimaknai dengan tepat, lupa cara membaca simbol, lupa rumus yang harus digunakan, terburu-buru saat menuliskan rumus, kurang menguasai materi prasyarat yaitu operasi hitung bentuk aljabar, kurang teliti serta terburu-buru dalam mengerjakan soal.

Abstract

Interaction that occurs in the classroom involves interaction between the teacher and students as well as students and students. One form of class interaction is communication. Communication that is continuously intertwined can also form relationships. A comfortable and pleasant classroom atmosphere is a hope for all class members so that learning objectives can be achieved and can form the class as a shalom community. During the practicum, the writer found that there was no interaction between grade 10 science-track students due to students' individualist attitudes. The teacher as an artist strives and plays a role in creating a pleasant classroom atmosphere through innovative learning methods. Therefore, the writing of this writing aims to find out if the method of learning while playing can build student interaction. The method of learning while playing is one of the innovative, creative, and beneficial learning methods used to increase student interaction and support the achievement of learning objectives. Based on the results of a survey of grade 10 science-track students and mentor feedback, the method of learning while playing using the "Snakes and Ladders" game was proven to be able to increase interaction and relationships between students. However, to see an increase in student interaction consistently, it cannot be measured through one application, but requires a longer time or process. In its application, the teacher also needs to pay attention to the types of educational games used to apply the learning method while playing.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Interaksi yang yang terjadi di dalam kelas melibatkan interaksi antara guru dan siswa maupun siswa dengan siswa. Salah satu bentuk interaksi kelas yaitu adanya komunikasi. Komunikasi yang secara terus menerus terjalin juga dapat membentuk relasi. Suasana kelas yang nyaman dan menyenangkan menjadi harapan bagi seluruh anggota kelas agar tujuan pembelajaran dapat tercapai serta dapat membentuk kelas sebagai komunitas shalom. Dalam masa praktikumnya, penulis mendapati tidak adanya interaksi yang terjalin di antara siswa kelas X-IPA disebabkan oleh sikap individualis siswa. Guru sebagai seorang seniman berupaya dan berperan untuk menciptakan suasana kelas yang menyenangkan melalui metode pembelajaran yang inovatif. Oleh sebab itu, tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bahwa metode belajar sambil bermain dapat membangun interaksi siswa. Metode belajar sambil bermain merupakan salah satu metode pembelajaran yang inovatif, kreatif, dan bermanfaat untuk meningkatkan interaksi siswa serta menunjang tercapainya tujuan pembelajaran. Berdasarkan hasil survei terhadap siswa kelas X-IPA dan feedback mentor, metode belajar sambil bermain dengan menggunakan media permainan ular tangga terbukti dapat meningkatkan interaksi serta relasi antar siswa. Namun untuk melihat adanya peningkatan interaksi siswa secara konsisten, tidak dapat diukur melalui satu kali penerapan, namun membutuhkan waktu atau proses yang lebih lama. Dalam penerapannya, guru juga perlu memerhatikan jenis permainan edukatif yang digunakan untuk menerapkan metode belajar sambil bermain.

Abstract

Mathematical communication skills are one of the standard abilities in mathematics learning that students must have. In fact, it was found that the grade 10 students at one of the senior high schools in Kupang were still lacking in communicating both orally and in writing in mathematics learning. They lacked the ability to describe mathematical ideas using written symbols and notations and also lacked the ability to make class presentations using mathematical language. The purpose of this study was to improve students' mathematical communication skills, both written and oral, by applying the Think-Talk-Write method. The method used in this research was classroom action research with the Kemmis and McTaggart model in three cycles. The research instruments used were observation sheets, questionnaires, rubric sheets for oral mathematic communication skills, written mathematical communication skills test sheets, and reflection journals. Based on the results of the analysis, the application of the Think-Talk-Write method can improve mathematical communication ability of grade 10 students at a  senior high school in Kupang. In mathematical communication skills written algebraically or graphically using mathematical terms, the appropriate notation and formula symbols increased by 4.76%. Written communication skill with the arrangement of arguments and generalizations increased by 28.57%. Similarly, the ability to convey mathematical thinking using mathematical language increased by 23.81%. The application of the Think-Talk-Write method can improve students' mathematical communication skills with stages starting from the explanation of the model and learning objectives, the distribution of question worksheets and materials, the think stage, the talk stage, and the write stage.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Kemampuan komunikasi matematis merupakan salah satu standar kemampuan dalam pembelajaran matematika yang harus dimiliki siswa. Pada kenyataannya ditemukan bahwa siswa kelas X pada salah satu sekolah menengah atas Kupang masih kurang dalam berkomunikasi baik secara lisan maupun tulisan dalam pembelajaran matematika. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa baik secara tulisan maupun lisan dengan menerapkan metode Think-Talk-Write. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian tindakan kelas dengan model Kemmis dan Mc. Taggart dalam tiga siklus. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu lembar observasi, lembar angket, lembar rubrik kemampuan komunikasi matematis lisan, lembar tes kemampuan komunikasi matematis tertulis, dan jurnal refleksi. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, kemampuan komunikasi matematis tertulis secara aljabar atau grafik yang menggunakan istilah matematika, simbol notasi dan formula baku yang sesuai mengalami peningkatan sebesar 4,76%. Pada kemampuan komunikasi tertulis dengan susunan argumen dan generalisasi mengalami peningkatan sebesar 28,57%. Begitu juga pada kemampuan menyampaikan pemikiran matematis menggunakan bahasa matematis mengalami peningkatan sebesar 23,81%. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan metode Think-Talk-Write dapat meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa dengan tahapan mulai dari penjelasan model dan tujuan pembelajaran, pembagian lembar kerja soal dan materi, tahap Think, tahap Talk, dan tahap Write.

Abstract

Mathematics is a subject that is considered a scourge by most students. They think that mathematics is difficult, complicated, and boring. However, if we look at the process of creation, everything in this universe (including mathematics) is God's creation and everything is really good. This truth needs to be revealed to students by the mathematics teacher. Unfortunately, many math teachers make students dislike mathematics. Therefore, this paper aims to describe the role of Christian mathematics teachers to guide students in viewing mathematics according to God's perspective. The research method used is the literature study method. The results of this study indicate that the role of Christian mathematics teachers includes: (1) appreciating and exploring mathematics first; (2) developing the four teacher competencies; and (3) understand the objectives of learning mathematics. Christian mathematics teachers also need to be careful not to fall into the sin of idolatry and pride by asking the Holy Spirit for help to be enabled in each of their ministries.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Matematika merupakan salah satu mata pelajaran yang dianggap momok oleh siswa. Siswa menganggap bahwa matematika itu sulit, rumit, dan membosankan. Namun jika melihat pada proses penciptaan maka segala yang ada di alam semesta ini (termasuk matematika) merupakan ciptaan Allah dan semuanya sungguh amat baik. Kebenaran ini perlu disingkapkan kepada siswa oleh guru matematika. Namun, banyak guru matematika yang justru membuat siswa tidak menyukai matematika. Oleh sebab itu, tulisan ini bertujuan untuk memaparkan peran guru matematika Kristen di dalam menuntun siswa dalam memandang matematika sesuai dengan cara pandang Allah. Adapun metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode studi kepustakaan. Hasil penelitian ini memaparkan bahwa peran guru matematika Kristen meliputi: (1) mengapresiasi dan menjelajahi matematika terlebih dahulu; (2) mengembangkan keempat kompetensi guru; serta (3) memahami tujuan pembelajaran matematika. Guru matematika Kristen juga perlu berhati-hati agar tidak jatuh ke dalam dosa penyembahan berhala dan kesombongan dengan meminta pertolongan kepada Roh Kudus agar dimampukan dalam setiap pelayanannya.

Abstract

During the Covid-19 pandemic, online learning became a new way of teaching and learning which utilized electronic devices, especially internet networks. However, in practice, online learning often encounters obstacles. With online learning, teachers need to know the causes and indicators of these difficulties. Efforts can then be made to alleviate them, namely that teachers become facilitators of online learning activities. In their role as facilitators, teachers can provide their students with supportive learning resources and media, encouragement and motivatation, and time outside of school hours to help students understand well. In this case, the author used a literature review and case study methods as the basis for preparing research instruments with the purpose of this paper being to explain the role of the teacher as a facilitator in overcoming learning difficulties of students during online learning. The author is aware of the limitations that humans have so the learning difficulties that students experience can be seen as an opportunity for teachers to serve those students. Teachers are also required to be more responsible for themselves and their students as a form of gratitude to God. The author suggests that the teacher as a facilitator can continue to learn to better understand the various strategies in overcoming learning difficulties and have a sense of responsibility towards students.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Dalam masa pandemi seperti ini, pembelajaran daring menjadi cara baru dalam proses belajar mengajar dengan memanfaatkan perangkat elektronik, khususnya jaringan internet. Namun dalam pelaksanaannya, pembelajaran daring sering mengalami kendala. Dalam pembelajaran daring yang dihadapi, guru perlu mengetahui faktor penyebab dan indikator kesulitan belajar daring. Kemudian, upaya dapat dilakukan yaitu guru diharapkan mampu menjadi fasilitator dalam kegiatan pembelajaran daring. Dengan perannya sebagai fasilitator, guru memberikan pelayanan berupa menyediakan sumber dan media pembelajaran yang mendukung, serta memberi semangat dan motivasi, serta meluangkan waktu di luar jam sekolah agar dapat membantu peserta didik memahami pembelajaran dengan baik. Dalam hal ini, penulis menggunakan metode kajian pustaka dan studi kasus sebagai dasar dalam penyusunan instrumen penelitian, dan tujuan penulisan paper adalah untuk menjelaskan guru sebagai fasilitator dalam mengatasi kesulitan belajar peserta didik selama pembelajaran daring. Penulis menyadari akan keterbatasan yang manusia miliki, sehingga melalui kesulitan belajar yang peserta didik alami dapat dilihat sebagai kesempatan untuk dapat melayani peserta didik. Guru juga dituntut lebih bertanggung jawab terhadap diri sendiri maupun peserta didik, sebagai wujud ucapan syukur kepada Tuhan. Saran penulis adalah agar guru sebagai fasilitator dapat belajar terus untuk lebih memahami berbagai macam strategi dalam mengatasi kesulitan belajar dan memiliki rasa tanggung jawab terhadap peserta didik.

Abstract

Geometry is a branch of science in mathematics and a course taken by students of mathematics education. Based on students' final exam scores, results were not optimal with several types of errors detected. This study aimed at identify student mistakes in solving geometry problems on the topic of solid figures. The subjects of this study were mathematics education students in the even semester of the 2018/2019 academic year at Universitas Pelita Harapan in Tangerang. The type of research was a qualitative descriptive study. The data collection technique used was a test. The results showed that students' errors in solving geometry problems were concept errors, calculation errors, and a lack of accuracy because they were in a hurry.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Geometri merupakan salah satu cabang ilmu dalam matematika dan merupakan matakuliah yang wajib diikuti oleh mahasiswa program studi pendidikan matematika. Berdasarkan nilai ujian akhir semester mahasiswa didapatkan hasilnya masih kurang maksimal, hal ini memungkinkan terdapat beberapa tipe kesalahan jawaban dari mahasiswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi kesalahan mahasiswa dalam menyelesaikan soal UAS geometri pada topik bangun ruang. Subjek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa pendidikan matematika semester genap Universitas Pelita Harapan Tangerang tahun akademik 2018/2019. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah tes. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kesalahan mahasiswa dalam menyelesaikan soal geometri adalah kesalahan konsep, kesalahan hitung, dan kurang teliti karena terburu-buru.

Abstract

The number theory is the first mathematics content course in the UPH FIP Mathematics Education study program, which does not have a response class. The response class was conducted as a companion to four content subjects with close relations with school mathematics content, namely Calculus 1, Calculus 2, Geometry, and Linear Algebra. Based on the questionnaire that has been distributed, prospective mathematics teachers consider that the response class is beneficial for them in attending lectures and in exploring related mathematical concepts. However, on the other hand, students inevitably have to go back to learning to be determined with the response class. The implication is that students' self-regulated learning will not develop optimally. However, self-regulated learning is an essential aspect that prospective teachers need to have. This research was conducted to see how self-regulated learning of future mathematics teachers in number theory courses. The research instruments used are questionnaires, the scale of self-regulated learning, and interviews. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The results of this study are that most students have a moderate level of learning independence. The aspects or indicators of learning independence that need special attention are setting learning goals/targets. Prospective teacher students need to continue to train and develop their learning independence to become professional teachers who continue to develop along with the times.

Abstract

Understanding mathematical concepts is an important element in the mathematics learning process that plays a fundamental role in achieving quality learning outcomes. However, in the context of hybrid learning, it was found that students' understanding of mathematical concepts was still lacking. Therefore, this study aims to apply guided exercise and question and answer methods as a solution to overcome these problems. This learning method was chosen because it has proven effective in hybrid learning environments, where the role of the teacher is very significant in the delivery of material. The purpose of this study is to illustrate how the application of guided practice and question and answer methods in hybrid learning can contribute to improving students' understanding of mathematical concepts. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative approach. The results showed that the application of guided practice and question and answer methods was able to make a positive contribution to students' understanding of mathematical concepts, by involving active participation of all students in the learning process. As a recommendation, teachers need to continue to evaluate and develop this method in order to achieve more optimal results in mathematics learning.

Abstract

Abstract The transition from online learning to offline learning still affects students' learning adaptation. Students' learning adaptation does not go smoothly in face-to-face learning. The impact of online learning has made students accustomed to studying on their own, and some students stop learning when they cannot complete their assignments. This leads to low understanding and motivation among students. Low motivation requires learning support to enhance students' learning achievements, which can be observed through their report card grades. Tenjo tutoring services aim to provide learning support for students. Tenjo tutoring accompanies each student through tutors who come every Saturday and teach students in their respective grade levels. The students who receive tutoring and guidance range from grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 in elementary school to grades 7, 8, and 9 in junior high school. The tutoring program lasts for approximately one year, from August 2022 to May 2023. Based on interviews with the person in charge of Tenjo who directly interacts with the students' parents, it is reported that Tenjo tutoring has greatly helped their children's learning. Students' learning achievements have shown improvement, as indicated by the increase in their report card grades. Keywords: Learning Achievement, Tenjo, GKI Gading Serpong
