Abstract

Dengue hemorrhagic fever is an infectious disease caused by dengue virus and is transmitted through the bite of the Aedes aegypti or Aedes albopictus mosquito. Ventilation and light intensity are physical controls to reduce the risk of outbreaks of DHF. Medan is one of the cities that is endemic for DHF, so DHF cases continue to occur and even increase every year. In 2018 cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever have increased as many as 1490 cases with a death rate of 13 people. This study aims to analyze the relationship between ventilation, light intensity and water storage conditions with the incidence of DHF. This type of research is descriptive, with case control design. The study population was 98 households, the study sample consisted of 49 cases and 49 controls. Data collection through observation and measurement. Data analysis methods include univariate analysis, bivariate analysis using chi square. The univariate analysis results demonstrated that the dengue hemorrhagic fever cases had higher prevalence rate in August (41%) and had dominant attack on 3-14 year old people (39%) as well as on females (59%). The bivariate analysis results indicated that lighting (OR= 9.474), ventilation (OR= 5.949) and condition of water reservoirs (OR= 4.769) were correlated with prevalence of dengue hemorrhagic fever. It was suggested to the public to pay attention to the intensity of light inside the house and install a wire mesh on the ventilation if the home environment contained a lot of DHF vectors and closed water reservoirs.

Abstract

Stroke is an important health problem in the world because stroke shows increased pain. In Indonesia, there are 500,000 people who experience strokes each year among 125,000 people die and others experience mild and severe disability. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of physical activities and smoking habits toward incidence of stroke on inpatients at Santa Elisabeth Hospital, Medan. This research is an observational analytic with a case control study design. Subjects consisted of cases and controls with a ratio of 1: 1 totaling 106 people namely 53 cases and 53 controls. Data collection uses interviews and questionnaires. Data analysis using simple logistic regression test. Simple logistic regression test results found that there is a significant influence between physical activity (p = 0.014; OR = 2.828, 95% CI 1,220-6,553) and smoking habits (p = 0.001; OR = 3,720, 95% CI 1,668-8,297) on the incidence stroke. It is recommended to do physical activity with adequate body movements and exercise and stop smoking.

Abstract

Sleep is one of the basic human needs that is useful for maintaining mental, emotional and health balance when awake. However, physical and physiological changes in the elderly coupled with health status and disease have an impact on the decline in the quality of sleep. The elders usually experience increased sleep latency, inability to initiate sleep, reduced sleep efficiency, sleeplessness, waking up faster, rhythm of sircadian disorders, and increased time for napping. The elders in Deli Serdang Regency chose to consume alcohol to overcome their sleep problems. This descriptive analytic study aims to analyze the relationship between alcohol consumption habits, especially palm wine and sleep quality of elders in Deli Serdang Regency. This study uses a cross sectional design with a quantitative approach. The population in this study were all elders living in Deli Serdang Regency. Sampling was done by purposive sampling technique. The sample size were 153 people and to anticipate the low response rate the sample was added by ten percent to 164 elderly people. The results showed that from simple regression logistic test, it was obtained that the palm wine consumption variable with p score = 0.023 PR = 12.115 (95% CI 1.421 - 103.276). Alcohol consumption factors were factors that are very likely to be changed by controlling excessive drinking (palm wine) alcoholic behavior. It would be better if the alcohol consumption habits (palm wine) were stopped because remembering the long-term effects of alcohol which not only affect the quality of sleep to be bad but also can affect one's health status.

Washing hand with soap has no relationship with the incidence of COVID-19 with p-value=0.781. Maintaining a minimum distance of 1 meter has no relationship with the incidence of COVID-19 with a p-value=0.739. Limiting activities outside the home has relationship with the incidence of COVID-19 with a p-value=0.034. The category away from the crowd has relationship with the incidence of COVID-19 with a p-value=0.002.

Abstract

Capitis trauma is a problem in the field of neurology, as the most common cause of death in young adults (<45 years) and a major cause of disability. Of the 2 million emergency patients, 25% are caused by capitis trauma, which can cause neurological disorders and structural damage to the brain resulting in decreased consciousness. In developing countries, including Indonesia, the frequency of capitis trauma tends to increase. Capitis trauma can occur at any age, most often regarding the productive age group (15-44 years). The frequency of capitis trauma is higher in males than females with a ratio of 4: 1. The most common cause is due to accidents by 60%. Capitis trauma in terms of neurological aspects requires operative therapy and non-operative therapy. Non-operative treatment can be done by maintaining the airway / ventilation, maintaining fluid balance, maintaining temperature, neurological examination and administration of drugs such as dexamethasone, anti-seizure administration, administration of hypertonic fluids such as manithol and administration of stress ulcer drugs.

Abstract

Lipids are a group of heterogeneous compounds related to fatty acids and are stored in the body as energy producers. Lipids consist of simple lipids (fats, waxes), lipid mixtures (phospholipids, glycolipids) and lipid derivatives (fatty acids, glycerol and steroids). Lipid As an important food element because in addition to having high energy, also because vitamins are fat soluble. Lipids affect the utilization of fat in the body. While fat functions as a heat insulator in subcutaneous tissue and an electrical insulator that allows rapid propagation of depolarization waves along the myelinated nerves. High fat content in nerve tissue. The combination of fat and protein (lipoprotein) is an important element and functions as a means of transporting lipids in the blood. Lipid metabolism consists of catabolism and anabolism, and includes triglyceride metabolism, cholesterol metabolism and lipoprotein metabolism. Abnormalities in lipid metabolism are the underlying cause of atherosclerosis which is a risk factor for coronary heart disease and stroke. Knowledge of the role and metabolism of lipids in health is important in understanding biomedical problems.
