Abstract

A state is said to be democratic if it provides a neutral public space for all citizens to express their opinions and ideas, including criticizing injustices committed by those in power. The purpose of this study is to describe, from a democratic standpoint, the restoration of the function of the press as a medium of social control in Indonesia, particularly in the context of the new press. A normative approach was used in this study’s research method. The study’s findings indicate that the new internet-based press can help to restore the function of the press as a medium of social control in a democratic context. The new press’s cyber public space can provide guarantees and expand public participation in all aspects of government and state life. The cyber public space, which is technically public and is linked to the National Cyber Parliament via the national press website, will serve as media control for the government so that it does not abuse its authority.

Abstract

Abstract

Purpose: This study examines feminist ideologies in the lyrics of Taylor Swift's album, Folklore. Research methodology: Using a qualitative descriptive approach and content analysis, the study analyzes three songs—Mad Woman, The Last Great American Dynasty, and Invisible String. The analysis involved identifying phrases depicting women, categorizing them by feminist type, interpreting their meanings, and drawing conclusions. Results: The results of the analysis show that "Mad Woman" critiques gender stereotypes and the effects of gaslighting on women, reflecting resistance to oppressive patriarchal structures. The song "The Last Great American Dynasty" presents a narrative of women who are intended to be the cause of destruction but instead represent the courage to fight against social norms that limit women's freedom. Meanwhile, "Invisible String" offers a more personal perspective, highlighting emotional relationships through the lens of feminism, which values equality and respect in relationships. Conclusion: This study shows that three songs in Taylor Swift's Folklore album represent feminist ideology through critiques of the patriarchy and portrayals of women's empowerment. These findings open up opportunities for further research in the context of popular music consumption. Limitations: This study had several limitations that should be considered. First, the focus of the analysis is only on three songs in Taylor Swift's Folklore album, namely, Mad Woman, The Last Great American Dynasty, and Invisible String. Contribution: This study applies Bhasin and Khan's feminist theory to reveal how feminist messages are conveyed through symbols and narratives in popular music.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The independence of the prosecutor's office is crucial in resolving inheritance law disputes involving state assets or public interest, in order to prevent abuse of authority and potential state losses. Prosecutors often face external pressure when handling strategic inheritance cases that concern public interest. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the extent to which prosecutorial independence is maintained and how its role can be optimized in resolving inheritance disputes with broad impacts. This research is a normative legal study that seeks to identify legal rules, principles, and doctrines through literature review to address the legal issues examined. The research was prescriptive and explanatory in nature, providing systematic and comprehensive explanations and solutions to the legal issues. The approaches used include statutory, conceptual, comparative, and futuristic approaches, with secondary data collected through library research and analyzed qualitatively using a deductive reasoning method. The results show that the independence of the prosecutor's office in resolving inheritance disputes involving state assets or public interest is not yet fully ensured due to external intervention and pressure. The absence of technical guidelines and limited interagency coordination hinder the prosecutor's office from optimally protecting the interests of the state.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a proactive Energy Management System (EnMS) for a palm oil refinery using a comprehensive systems-based approach implemented carefully during the plant design phase. Unlike conventional methods that rely mainly on historical operational data, this research deliberately utilizes engineering design specifications together with simulation modeling to estimate accurate energy consumption baselines and formulate an ISO 50001-compliant EnMS. A regression-based analysis is systematically applied to define reliable Energy Performance Indicators (EnPIs), using production volume and running hours as key variables influencing overall energy utilization. The resulting analytical model estimates a Specific Energy Consumption (SEC) of 2.168 MWh/MT—significantly higher than the 0.45 MWh/MT BAT benchmark—primarily due to assumptions of full-capacity, simultaneous operation under conservative conditions. To support continuous energy performance improvement, the system incorporates PDCA-based review mechanisms and establishes progressive energy-saving targets: an initial 10% reduction, followed by 1–2% annual incremental improvements. Validation through structured feedback sessions from plant management confirmed the system's strong alignment with operational needs, feasibility within industrial contexts, and readiness for phased implementation. Ultimately, this study contributes a novel, simulation-based framework for integrating EnMS during the design stage, offering a scalable and adaptable model for energy-intensive industries that aim to enhance efficiency and achieve long-term sustainability from the outset.

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between health status, health shocks, and labor force participation in East Java using panel data from the Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS) waves 3, 4, and 5. Employing fixed-effects and random-effects logistic regression models, the results show that good self-reported health significantly increases the probability of labor force participation, affirming the economic value of health as human capital. However, health shocks—captured as changes in health condition between waves—do not significantly predict labor market disengagement, indicating possible measurement limitations or labor supply rigidity. The analysis further reveals that the positive effect of good health is substantially weaker for women, suggesting gendered constraints in labor returns to health. Educational attainment consistently predicts labor force participation, reinforcing the complementary role of formal education in economic resilience. These findings contribute to the growing empirical literature on the health–labor nexus in emerging regional economies.

Abstract

This manuscript presents a comparative analysis of environmental permitting frameworks in Indonesia and Malaysia, specifically focusing on their application to large-scale development initiatives, particularly National Strategic Projects (PSN) . As developing economies, both nations grapple with the imperative of balancing economic growth with environmental sustainability. This study employs a comparative juridical–normative approach, drawing on statutory frameworks, secondary literature, and policy documents from Indonesia and Malaysia. Additionally, this study examines the legal and procedural aspects of environmental impact assessment [Analisis Mengenai Dampak Lingkungan (AMDAL) in Indonesia and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in Malaysia], highlighting key similarities and differences in their approaches. While both countries possess established legislative frameworks for environmental protection, Indonesia’s accelerated permitting for the PSN, commonly facilitated by the Online Single Submission system, has drawn criticism for potentially compromising environmental safeguards and exacerbating social and environmental conflicts. Conversely, Malaysia relies on its more standardized EIA process for major projects, although it faces challenges in ensuring effective enforcement and public participation. The analysis demonstrates that despite distinct regulatory evolutions and implementation strategies, both nations share common struggles in mitigating the adverse environmental and social consequences of rapid development. The findings underscore the urgent need to strengthen environmental governance, enhance transparency, and promote meaningful stakeholder engagement to foster genuinely sustainable development pathways in Indonesia and Malaysia.
