Abstract

Abstract

Kata Kunci: Diabetes Melitus, Prolanis, Makan Buah dan Sayur, Kadar Gula Darah, Pandemi ABSTRACTThe Indonesian government has implemented a prolanis system with one of the goals of helping DM patients control blood sugar levels, by providing education on healthy foods, such as eating enough fruits and vegetables. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Prolanis encountered obstacles, so DM patients lacked motivation and supervision to carry out these healthy living recommendations. This study aims to determine the relationship between f eating fruits frequency, vegetables consuming habit, and prolanis participation with blood sugar levels of DM patients during the pandemic. This study used a cross-sectional study, with 68 DM patients in Surakarta at July-August 2020. The relationship between eating fruits frequency, vegetables consuming habit, and prolanis participation with blood sugar levels was tested by Chi-Square bivariate. The results of this study stated that the relationship between frequency of eating fruit, habit of consuming vegetables, and participation in prolanis with blood sugar levels had p=0.22; p=0.825; and p=0.171 respectively. So it can be concluded that there is no significant relationship between the frequency of eating fruit, the habit of consuming vegetables, and the participation of prolanis with blood sugar levels. Key Words: Diabetes Mellitus, Prolanis, Eating fruits and vegetables, The Patient's Blood Sugar Level, Pandemi

Abstract

Covid-19 patients with comorbidities, such as hypertension, diabetes, and respiratory diseases, have a higher risk for severe disease and mortality compared to patients without comorbidities. Some data shows that the administration of high dose vitamin C (1–2 g/day) can reduce the amount of the inflammatory mediators and shorten the length of hospital stay. This study aimed to determine the relationship between vitamin C administration and of length of hospital stay for Covid-19 patients with comorbidities. This study was a retrospective observational study on  consecutively sampled medical record data of UNS Hospital patients from July 2020 to January 2021. A total of 78 patient medical records were included of this study. The inclusion criteria were all medical records of patients who suffered from Covid-19 with comorbidities admitted to the hospital while the exclusion criteria were medical records of patients who did not get oral or intravenous vitamin C. The chi-square bivariate test was used to determine the relationship between the administration of vitamin C and the length of hospital stay for Covid-19 patients with comorbidities. Of the 78 subjects only 52 subjects were included in the statistical analysis. Medical records were divided into two groups: group 1, that consisted of medical records of patient who received more than 1,000 mg Vitamin C, and group 2, who received less than 1,000 mg Vitamin C. Results demonstrated that the administration of high dose vitamin C of more than 1,000 mg was not associated with the length of hospital stay (p=0.677). Thus, high dose of vitamin C is not associated with the length of hospital stay for Covid-19 patients with comorbidities, such as hypertension, diabetes, and respiratory disease.

Abstract

Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) as a partner has a clinic for patients with chronic diseases with regular inspections and education. Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common disease in PMI clinic, with main problems are diet style and medicine compliance. The pandemic has caused the clinic activities stopped; so it is necessary to modify the patients’ educational methods. Limitations in face-to-face education during pandemic, could be overcome by digital-based education. Community service activities were carried out through the identification of partner problems; collecting data on patients or patients' families with WhatsApp numbers, making scripts followed by making videos; distributing the video via Google Drive and Youtube and ended with a discussion session via WhatsApp group. The education contents include menus preparation and managing macronutrient intake and public education in medicine compliance. Changes in knowledge was measured from the results of the pretest and posttest related to the material. The results showed an increase in knowledge of good menu preparation to meet the needs of both macronutrients and micronutrients as well as knowledge of the correct use of diabetes drugs by 20%. These results indicated that the use of video and digital education through WhatsApp group can be an alternative of patients education during pandemic.

Abstract

Background: Young women can suffer from anemia due to monthly menstruation and by having many activities without adequate iron-filled nutrition. Otherproblems found on them are overweight and obesity. The data show that one with overweight or obesity can lead to iron deficiency anemia (IDA) along with increasingproinflammatory cytokines, which will cause the transcription of hepcidin. The increaseof hepcidin transcription will inhibit the absorption of iron from the intestine into the circulation, inhibiting spending iron reserves into circulation, and inhibitingthe release of iron recycled from splenic macrophages. This can cause IDA. The purpose of this study was to obtain the proportion of iron deficiency anemia in overweight or obese young women. Methods: The design of this study was cross sectional using purposive sampling. The subjects of this study were the student from fiveselected Senior high schools inBoyolali, Central Java, Indonesia. The determination of IDAis done by using hemoglobin and indexes of erythrocytes. Results: This study was the follow-upof the previous study, which was conducted to 14 obese and/or overweightyoung women withanemia From 14 subjects, there wasone subject suffered from other anemia and 13 subjects with IDA (using index erythrocytes examination). Their mean of MCV was 72.68±4.29fl, MCH was 23.08±2.63pg, and MCHC was 35.21±0.65 %.Conclusions: From this study, almost all overweight or obeseyoung women with anemia were indicated as IDA (92.8%).
