Abstract

The number of rice production produced by Kolaka Regency is included in the five largest in Southeast Sulawesi Province. It is interesting to study whether this fact has a real impact on farmers as the first marketing agency. Polenga Village was chosen as the research location because this village is one of the largest rice-producing villages in Kolaka Regency. Writing this article aims to 1) identify rice marketing patterns in Polenga Village, 2) analyze the amount of marketing margin in Polenga Village, and 3) analyze the functions of marketing institutions carried out by each rice marketing agency in Polenga Village. This type of research is descriptive, qualitative and quantitative. Sources of data in this study, namely primary data obtained from respondents and secondary data obtained from agencies related to the research. The analysis carried out is the analysis of marketing margins and analysis of the functions of marketing institutions. The results showed that there were three main patterns of rice marketing in Polenga Village, namely: (I) from farmers directly to consumers, (II) from farmers to collectors and then to consumers, and (III) from farmers to collectors to retailers and ends up in the consumer. The second finding is that the highest marketing margin value is in Marketing Channel III, which is IDR 1.000 per kilogram. Meanwhile, in the second marketing channel, only IDR 500 per kilogram and the marketing channel I no marketing margin was found. Based on the analysis of the functions of marketing institutions, each institution has performed three main functions of marketing institutions, namely the physical function, the exchange function, and the facility function. The conclusion that can be drawn is that the most efficient marketing channel is Marketing Channel I where no marketing marjin is found and direct sales occur to consumers.

Abstract

Seaweed production often experiences fluctuations, with one of the recurring challenges faced by farmers being the suboptimal utilization of available production factors, which in turn impacts production output. The aim of this study is to analyze the level of technical efficiency and the technology gap in seaweed production across three districts in East Java: Sumenep, Banyuwangi, and Situbondo. This research utilizes primary data in a cross-sectional format during the 2023/2024 seaweed cultivation season in the aforementioned districts. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data on the inputs and outputs used in production. The Meta-Frontier Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method was applied to measure the technical efficiency of seaweed production in each research area. Based on the results of the technical efficiency analysis, the areas with efficiency scores of 1 (fully efficient) were as follows: Sumenep District (63.33%), Banyuwangi District (40%), and Situbondo District (23.33%). More than 50% of the Decision-Making Units (DMUs) in Sumenep have achieved perfect efficiency (TE = 1), whereas the other two districts have not reached 50% efficiency among their DMUs. Furthermore, the average technical efficiency across the DMUs in the three study locations is 85.3%, indicating that these DMUs can still improve their technical efficiency by up to 14.7%. The average Total Gap Ratio (TGR) shows low variability, although differences still exist. This suggests that the three study areas implement varying production practices, methods, and have different resource availability. However, Banyuwangi District has the highest TGR value among the three study locations, approaching the threshold of 1. This indicates a relatively low technology gap in this area.

Abstract

The sharecropping system remains a prevalent informal institution in many agricultural countries, including Indonesia. This research focuses on examining the profit-sharing practices in rice farming in Lalonggolosua Village, Tanggetada District, Kolaka Regency. Using a purposive sampling approach, 30 farmers were selected as a representative sample out of 108 rice farmers affiliated with local farming groups. Conducted between January and April 2022, the study found that the dominant sharecropping arrangement in the area involved landowners receiving one-third and tenant farmers receiving two-thirds of the yield. Income analysis revealed that tenant farmers earned an average of IDR 15.67 million per hectare per planting season, while landowner-cultivators earned slightly less, averaging IDR 15.61 million per hectare per season. The efficiency of rice farming, as measured by the R/C Ratio, averaged 4.62 and 4.72, indicating profitable operations. A t-test analysis showed no statistically significant difference in income between landowner-cultivators and tenant farmers. It is recommended that sharecropping agreements be made fairer, with clearer definitions of each party’s rights and responsibilities.

Abstract

Buton Tengah Regency is one of the districts in Southeast Sulawesi Province which has quite large marine and fisheries resource potential. Its position in seventh place as a large capture fisheries producer in Southeast Sulawesi Province requires the government to be able to manage this potential optimally for the welfare of the community. This study aims to analyze the contribution of the fisheries sector as a leading sector in the development of the Buton Tengah Regency region. The data used is secondary data from the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) of Buton Tengah Regency 2016-2020 using the Location Quotient (LQ) analysis tool. The results of the LQ analysis show that the fisheries sector which is grouped into two sub-sectors can be categorized as basic and superior sectors for Buton Tengah Regency with a high level of specialization (cultivated fisheries sub-sector is 1.41 and capture fisheries sub-sector is 1.01). The results of this analysis show that the fisheries sector in Buton Tengah Regency has a competitive advantage (both aquaculture and capture fisheries sub-sectors) over the fisheries sector in Southeast Sulawesi Province. The recommended policy recommendations are: 1) increasing gross regional domestic product (GRDP) by developing a fisheries sector that is oriented towards markets outside the region or abroad; and 2) the fisheries sector needs to increase its competitiveness or competitive advantage through sustainable development of the fisheries industry (upstream - downstream).
