Abstract

Catholic Religious Education (CRE) plays a vital role in shaping students’ character, morality, and spirituality. However, traditional and monotonous teaching approaches often lead to passive student engagement and low motivation. This article explores the implementation of the Think Pair Share (TPS) method in CRE as an innovative, cooperative, and student-centered learning strategy. Utilizing a literature review method, this study analyzes various scholarly sources related to TPS and Catholic religious education. The findings indicate that the TPS method encourages students to think critically, engage in peer discussions, and confidently share ideas in class, thereby creating an active and inclusive learning environment. Nevertheless, the effectiveness of this method depends greatly on the teacher’s readiness in lesson planning, fostering a supportive classroom atmosphere, and providing constructive feedback. Adaptive and creative teaching strategies are essential to ensure that TPS is effectively and meaningfully applied within the context of CRE in the era of independent learning.

Abstract

Adolescents are at an emotionally unstable age and need social recognition and self-existence. Biologically, adolescents experience significant development of sex hormones such as testosterone and progesterone, leading to an increased attraction to the opposite sex. Socially, adolescents are highly vulnerable to entering the youth community and engaging in various juvenile delinquency activities. Therefore, sex education is necessary for adolescents to prevent promiscuity and prepare them for marriage. This study explores the importance of scientific knowledge and character in strengthening loyalty to their marriage vows. The research applies a survey method. Quantitative data are obtained from the results of the questionnaire. Data collection through personal interviews and group meetings with young people and families in St. Boniface Parish, Alasa, and Christ the King Gidӧ Parish are useful factors in this study.  The data obtained were analyzed descriptively. The result showed science education, character and moral values, especially husband and wife morals, are fundamental in maintaining the sanctity of marriage. The virtues of life, especially morals, encourage a person to behave appropriately and correctly by applying moral values. Morality is defined as personal or cultural values, codes of ethics, or social customs that establish rules about right and wrong.

Abstract

This article aims to provide an in-depth review of the implementation of the inquiry method in Catholic Religious Education. The study applies a systematic literature review approach by analyzing various relevant sources, including books, indexed journal articles, and official documents of the Catholic Church published within the last five years. The inquiry method is considered an effective approach to fostering critical thinking, creativity, and active participation of learners in understanding the values of the Catholic faith. Data analysis was conducted through reduction, classification, and synthesis to explore the relevance of inquiry implementation in the context of religious education. The findings indicate that the inquiry method encourages students not only to receive the faith teachings passively but also to reflect on their life experiences in the light of the Gospel. This strategy strengthens faith identity, builds reflective thinking skills, and promotes a dialogical attitude in facing contemporary challenges. The article concludes that the inquiry method can serve as an effective pedagogical alternative in Catholic Religious Education, although its application requires adaptation to theological contexts, spirituality, and Catholic school curricula. Thus, this review is expected to contribute to both theoretical development and practical innovation in the teaching of religion in contemporary contexts.

Abstract

This study examines the challenges and solutions faced by teachers in implementing Catholic Religious Education (CRE) learning through a deep learning approach in the classroom. The era of educational digitalization demands a transformation from traditional learning methods to more innovative and profound approaches. Deep learning in the educational context refers to learning strategies that encourage students to understand concepts deeply, analyze, evaluate, and integrate knowledge with spiritual experiences. This research methodology uses a literature review by analyzing various literature sources related to the implementation of deep learning in CRE learning. The research results show that teachers face main challenges in the form of limited technological competence, resistance to learning paradigm changes, and infrastructure inadequacy. Solutions that can be applied include improving teacher digital literacy, developing hybrid learning models, integrating technology that is in accordance with Catholic values, and forming professional learning communities. This research contributes to developing an implementation framework for effective and meaningful deep learning for CRE learning. Practical implications include policy recommendations for teacher professional development and phased implementation strategies in the context of Indonesian Catholic education.

Abstract

This article is a literature review that examines Paul Ricoeur’s concept of narrative identity and its relevance to education. Ricoeur conceives human identity as a dynamic construction shaped through narrative, namely the reflective interpretation of life experiences within the dimensions of time, social relations, and self-awareness. In this framework, education is not merely understood as a means of knowledge transmission but also as a hermeneutical space where learners construct an understanding of themselves through experience, reflection, and dialogue. Narrative enables students to coherently connect the past, present, and future, while simultaneously cultivating character, responsibility, and empathy. This article highlights the importance of narrative-based learning strategies, such as case studies, autobiographical writing, analysis of literary and historical texts, and project-based learning. Through these approaches, students are encouraged to develop a reflective and ethical identity that is open to diversity. Thus, Ricoeur’s thought provides a strong philosophical foundation for building humanistic character education in which learners are positioned as subjects who grow and transform through their own life stories.
