Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between birth weight, weaning weight and sex on parity of Simmental cattle in BPTU HPT Padang Mengatas. The material of this research is data from 104 Simmental parity I, II and III cows kept in BPTU HPT Padang Mengatas. The method used in this research is a case study method and the sampling is done by purposive sampling. The data were obtained by looking at the Simmental cattle recording records in BPTU HPT Padang Mengatas. The variables observed were birth weight, weaning weight and sex as the independent variable and parity as the dependent variable. Data analysis used multiple linear regression with stepwise method and its processing used SPSS 22 for windows to find variables that were significantly related to parity. The results of this study indicate that the mean birth weight P1 = 34.94 kg; P2 = 43.11 kg; P3 = 45.93 kg. The average weaning weight P1 = 196.14 kg; P2 = 230.74 kg; P3 = 248.73 kg and the average gender P1 = 0.48; P2 = 0.52; P3 = 0.50. It can be concluded that birth weight, weaning weight and sex of Simmental cattle have a significant relationship to parity of Simmental cattle in BPTU HPT Padang Mengatas, because increased parity tends to increase birth weight and weaning weight of calves, calves with heavy birth weight tend to be male.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of thawing time on the quality of frozen semen of Friesian Holstein cattle produced by BIB Lembang which is stored in UPTD Puskeswan Padang Panjang. This study used an experimental method with a completely randomized design (CRD). Consists of 3 treatments, namely thawing time of 1 second, 10 seconds and 20 seconds at 38°C and each treatment was repeated 5 times. The material used in this study was 15 straws of frozen semen from FH cattle produced by BIB Lembang with the same bull code. This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Animal Biotechnology, Andalas University Padang. The results showed that the thawing duration of 1 second, 10 seconds and 20 seconds gave no significant difference (P> 0.05) to the percentage of life, percentage of motility and percentage of abnormalities in frozen semen of FH cows thawed at 38ºC. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that frozen semen from FH cattle produced by BIB Lembang, thawed at 38ºC for 1 second, 10 seconds and 20 seconds is still suitable for IB.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the effect of ambient temperature in the city of Solok on rectal temperature, feed consumption, and drinking water consumption of quails. The quail in this study aged 5 weeks old. They were obtained from a quail breeding in Nagari Cupak, Solok. The applied design was a completely randomized design (CRD) in which average ambient temperatures for each treatment were 22.63 ± 1.04°C in the morning, 32.14 ± 1.37°C in the midday,31.02 ± 1.28°C in the afternoon, and 25.46 ± 0.66°C in the evening. Each treatment was repeated 4 times. The variables measured were rectal temperature, feed consumption, and drinking water consumption. The results indicated that the ambient temperature in the midday and afternoon significantly increased rectal temperature and drinking water consumption compared to those in the morning and evening. However, the ambient temperature in the midday andafternoon significantly decreased feed consumption compared to that in the morning and evening. It can be concluded that the ambient temperature in the city of Solok affects rectal temperature, feed consumption, and drinking water consumption of quails.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of soaking Brahman cross beef with pineapple fruit extract on pH, water holding capacity, and cooking loss. The material used in this study was 1.6 kg Brahman cross beef brisket section aged 5 years. The design used was a completely randomized design (CRD) with immersion treatment (minute) with pineapple fruit extract (P0=0, P1=15, P2=30, P3=45) and 4 replications. The variables measured were pH, water holding capacity and cooking loss. The mean obtained for pH is P0=5.75; P1=5.50; P2=5.45; and P3=5,40 for water holding capacity P0=14,61; P1=21.30; P2=22.91; and P3=24.21 while for cooking loss P0=32.92; P1=21.30; P2=47.06; and P3=44.30. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the length of soaking meat with pineapple extract gave a very significant difference (P<0.01) to the pH value and cooking loss and not significantly different (P>0.05) to the water holding capacity.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of thawing time on the quality of frozen semen of Limousin cattle. This study used an experimental method with a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments, namely thawing time of 0 seconds, 30 seconds, 60 seconds and 90 seconds at 38oC and 4 replications. The material in this study was frozen semen of 16 straws of Limousin cattle with the same stud code. This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Animal Biotechnology, Andalas University, Padang. From the results of the study, it can be seen that the thawing time of 0 seconds, 30 seconds, 60 seconds and 90 seconds gave a very significant difference (P<0.01) for the percentage of life, percentage of motility and percentage of abnormalities that were thawed at 38oC. It was concludedthat the effect of thawing time of 0 seconds was high on the percentage of motility, percentage of survival and percentage of abnormalities for thawing that could cause spermatozoa (cold shock) or damage.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of using bread waste flour (BWF) and golden snail flour (GSF) in the ration of quail on protein consumption, egg production and egg weight. The design used was a completely randomized design (CRD) with treatment levels of the use of BWF and GSF in the ration, namely P0 (using yellow corn and fish meal without BWF and GSF), P1 (10% BWF and 5,35% GSF), P2 (20% BWF and 10,65% GSF), P3 (30% BWF and 16% GSF). Each treatment consisted of 5 cage units as replicates. Each cage unit is filled with 4 quails. The results showed that using BWF and GSF with levels of 30% and 16% (P3) resulted in no significant difference in protein consumption, egg production and quail egg weight. It can be concluded that using 30% bread waste flour (BWF) and 16% golden snail flour (GSF) in quail rations during the egg-laying period did not make any difference to all the variables measured.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the dry matter, organic matter, and crude protein content of palm oil fronds incubated with local microorganism source of rumen content and crude enzymes produced through the rumen of cattle. The rumen contents of the beef were incubated for 7 days with a fermented system in the rumen with the addition of molasses and soybean soaking water as a source of food and energy, as well as the addition of palm fronds as a source of lignin enzymes. The design used was factorial completely randomized design 2 X 3 with 3 replications for each treatment. Factor A consisted of two treatments, there were: A1 = Local microorganism source of rumen content of beef, A2 = crude enzyme. Factor B using of dose: B1 = 10%, B2 = 20%, B3 = 30%. The parameters observed were: dry matter content, organic matter, crude protein.  The resulted were 33.11-34.75% the content of dry matter, 93.40-93.08% the content of organic matter, and the content of crude protein based on this research data, it can be concluded that the incubation treatment of oil palm fronds with local microorganisms (Mol) and crude enzymes affects the dry matter and organic matter content. Crude protein content ranged from 6.70 to 7.38%.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluation the effect using of crude enzymes base on the rumen contents of cattle as bio activators with different doses and incubation length on the dry matter, organic matter, and crude protein content of palm oil fronds to be used as ruminants feed.  The completely factorial randomized design with 3 replications for each treatment was used in this study. Factor A was the incubation length of the palm fronds, where A1 = 7 days, A2 = 14 days. Factor B dose of crude enzyme; B1 = 5%, B2 = 10%, B3 = 15%. Parameters observed were dry matter content, organic matter, crude protein. The results showed that there was no interaction effect (p>0.05) between incubation length and different doses of crude enzymes on dry matter, organic matter, and crude protein content of palm fronds. The highest dry matter content was 93.89%, the highest organic matter was 89.22% and the highest crude protein content was 11.04%. The best results in this study were at a dose of 10% treatment with an incubation period of 7 days.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the use of fermented palm kernel cake with EM-4 in the ration in terms of slaughter weight, carcass weight, and abdominal fat weight of superior village chickens from Balitbangtan. The material in the study was 32 male KUB chickens aged 10 weeks, obtained from AIAT Kayu Aro. The design used was a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments: P0 (given 0% BISF), P1 (given 10% BISF), P2 (administered 20% BISF) and P3 (30% BISF). Each treatment consisted of 4 cage units as replicates. Each cage unit is filled with 4 KUB chickens. The variables in this study were slaughter weight (grams/head. Carcass weight (grams/head). Abdominal fat weight (grams/head). Based on the results, it can be concluded that fermented palm kernel cake (BISF) with EM-4 can be given up to 20% in the ration of KUB chickens aged 10 weeks because it produces slaughter weight and carcass weight which is significantly higher than the slaughter weight and carcass weight due to rations without BISF and also rations with 30% BISF.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using expired bread flour and golden snail flour in quail rations on energy consumption, crude fiber consumption and drinking water consumption. The livestock used were female quails aged 14 weeks (egg laying period) totaling 80 tails. Bread comes from the bakery PT. Nagari Minang Jelita is located on Jl. Cross Sumatra KM.13 Jorong Kubang Nagari Singkarak Kab. solo. The design of this study was a completely randomized design (CRD) which consisted of 4 treatments, namely: P0 (given yellow corn without TRK and TKM), P1 (10% TRK and 5.35% TKM), P2 (20% TRK and 10 ,65% TKM), P3 (30% TKM and 16% TKM). Each treatment consisted of 5 cage units as replicates. Each cage unit is filled with 5 quails. The variables measured in this study were energy consumption, crude fiber consumption and drinking water consumption. The results showed that the average energy consumption was P0=58,69; P1=58,29; P2=59,41; P3=61,38 Mcal/head/day, crude fiber consumption is P0=0,80; P1=0,80; P2=0,81; P3=0,82 gram/head/day and drinking water consumption is P0=66,11; P1=64,81; P2=64,11; P3=65,41 ml/head/day. The results of the study concluded that the effect of giving expired bread flour and golden snail flour in the ration had a non-significantly different effect (P>0.05) on energy consumption, crude fiber consumption and quail drinking water consumption.
