Abstract

Overtraining can cause muscle inflammation. Untreated inflammation might cause permanent damage. Traumas can create dysfunction physically and functionally. One study demonstrated that moringa contained a high content of micro- and macronutrients, such as protein, energy, and vitamins, and had several therapeutic effects. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of moringa in inflammation reduction, due to endurance training (eTR), on skeletal muscle. The sample consisted of 12 adults male Wistar rats separated into three groups, including two exercise groups and one non-exercise group. One of the exercise groups was given moringa leaf extract (eTMO) at a dose of 0.02 mg/kg/day of body weight, which was suspended in 0.5% Na-CMC, taken orally for 28 days. The exercise rat groups were trained on a treadmill for 30 minutes every day for 28 days. Western blotting (WB) was utilized for the detection of IL-6 protein expression. These findings demonstrated that the treatment using M. oleifera leaf extract combined with endurance exercise reduced the expression of the protein IL-6 subunit in the gastrocnemius (Gas) muscles. This data revealed that the combination of Moringa oleifera and exercise could potentially lower IL-6 levels in skeletal muscle.

Abstract

Kelelahan merupakan faktor yang dapat mempengaruhi kualitas gerak seorang atlet, salah satunya yaitu kinematik seorang atlet seperti perubahan pada postur, sudut sendi, dan kordinasi antar sendi ketika atlet tersebut mengalami kelelahan. Oleh karena itu tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh kelelahan terhadap kinematik atlet rowing UKM Dayung UPI. 10 orang anggota Unit Kegiatan Mahasiswa Dayung UPI nomor rowing berpartisipasi dalam penelitian ini. Desain yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah One Group Pretest – Posttest Design. Instrument pengambilan data menggunakan 1 handycams (Sony 32GB HDR-PJ540), 1 Accutrend Plus, 100-meter ergometer rowing test, dan Burpee (Squat Thrust). Penelitian ini dianalisis dengan menggunakan Paired Sample T-test, dengan tingkat (Sig. 0.05). Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pada Angle of Hip Joint at Finish Phase (p= 0.005), Angle of Knee Joint at Finish Phase (p= 0.007), Angular Velocity of Hip Joint at Drive Phase (p= 0.006), dan Angular Velocity of Knee Joint at Drive Phase (p= 0.027) saat atlet rowing mengalami kelelahan. Hal ini menunjukan bahwa kelelahan dapat menjadi salah satu faktor yang mempengaruhi kinematik atlet rowing.

Abstract

One of physical adaptation at cell level is known as mitochondrial biogenesis. Sport endurance could increase the metabolic characteristic in skeletal muscle, including mitochondrial biogenesis and glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4) improvement. Supplements or food groups containing polyphenol are able to activate cAMP (cyclic adenosine monophosphate), which could increase mitochondrial biogenesis process farther through PGC-1 activation as the master of mitochondrial biogenesis settings. Curcuma, the plan coming from Indonesia (curcuma L), belongs to polyphenol group family. Its ability in improving mitochondrial biogenesis at muscle cell will be explained in this paper. The research of the effect of the combination of curcuma consumption and sport endurance in increasing mitochondrial biogenesis will be seen through AMPK, SIRT1, and PGC1. This paper will also explain the direct target of curcuma in increasing mitochondrial in skeletal muscle. The writer tends to emphasize the second messenger cAMP where this enzyme involves in mitochondrial biogenesis activation. Our previous research indicated that cAMP is the main target and the most important in mitochondrial biogenesis improvement as the effect of sport endurance. At the end of discussion, the writer tries to see how curcuma improve mitochondrial biogenesis through PDE4A enzyme phosphorylation that has a role in changing cAMP to AMP. Based on the previous research, curcuma consumption is potential in increasing mitochondrial biogenesis at skeletal muscle, thus it is expected to have ability in improving athlete performance. AbstrakSalah satu bentuk adaptasi dari aktifitas fisik pada tingkat sel adalah yang dikenal dengan mitokondria biogenesis. Olahraga daya tahan/endurance dapat meningkatkan karakteristik metabolic di dalam otot skelet, termasuk diantaranya mitokondria biogenesis dan peningkatan Glucose Transporter 4 (GLUT4). Golongan makanan atau suplemen mengandung poliphenol dapat mengaktifkan cAMP (Cyclic adenosine monophosphate),  yang lebih jauh dapat meningkatkan proses mitokondria biogenesis melalui pengaktifan dari PGC-1a sebagai master pengaturan dari mitokondria biogenesis. Kunyit (curcumin) yang berasal dari tanaman aseli Indonesia curcuma L termasuk golongan keluarga poliphenol dan kemampuannya dalam meningkatkan mitokondria biogenesis di sel otot akan coba di terangkan pada tulisan kali ini. Penelitian efek kombinasi pemberian kunyit dan olahraga daya tahan (endurance) dalam rangka meningkatkan mitokondria biogenesis tampaknya terlihat melalui jalur AMPK, SIRT1 dan PGC1-a. Lebih jauh pada tulisan kali ini juga coba menjelaskan mengenai target langsung dari kunyit dalam meningkatkan mitokondria di otot skelet. Penulis lebih menekankan kepada the second messenger cAMP dimana enzim ini terlibat dalam mengaktifan mitokondria biogenesis. Penelitian kami sebelumnya mengindikasikan bahwa cAMP merupakan target utama dan terpenting dalam peningkatan mitokondria biogenesis sebagai efek dari olahraga daya tahan (endurance). Pada akhir pembahasan, penulis juga coba melihat bagaimana kunyit meningkatkan mitokondria biogenesis melalui investigasi terhadap fosforilasi enzim PDE4A yang berperan dalam mengubah cAMP menjadi AMP. Berdasarkan penelitian sebelumnya maka mengkonsumsi kunyit yang merupakan bahan aseli Indonesia mempunyai potensi dalam peningkatan mitokondria biogenesis pada otot skelet dan diharapkan mempunyai kemampuan dalam meningkatkan performa atlet.

Abstract

This research was aimed at studying dry-land training on the performance of water polo athletes, starting from the dry-land training model to improving the performance of water polo athletes. The research method used was the quantitative methods with meta-analysis techniques. The research method presented an analysis of the publication of scientific journals in reputable international journals and reputable national journals relating to dry-land training on improving the performance of water polo athletes. The samples of this study were scientific articles that were published in an international journal, indexed in the highly reputable Scopus database category Q1/Q2 with H-Index, and articles that were published in an international journal with the Elsevier homepage with Impact Factors from 2014-2020. The instrument used in this study was the code submission sheet. The data analysis was conducted through SPSS version 21. The test result obtained significance values p 0.05, so that the dry land training model provided a valid effect size in improving the performance of water polo athletes. Therefore,   was refused. The conclusion of this study is that the dry-land training model provides a significant effect on the performance of water polo athletes. The study also concludes that the Athlete's age, exercise intensity, and compliance with training rules become the factors that affect the improvement of water polo athlete performance.

Abstract

Indonesia is ranked as the most highly polluted country in Southeast Asia and the 26th on the list of the most polluted countries worldwide. Exercising in polluted spaces can have complex effects on inflammation and mitochondrial biogenesis in the lungs. The interaction between physical activity and pollution exposure may affect lung health. This study aimed to analyse the different effects of exercise in polluted open spaces and antioxidant administration on lung inflammation and mitochondrial biogenesis. The research approach used was a quantitative approach with a comparative descriptive design using random assignment technique. The research sample used male white rats (Rattus Norvegicus) Wistar strain aged 8-10 weeks with a body weight of 200-300 g obtained from Biofarma Animal Breeding Facility. The sampling technique used in this study was random assignment technique. In this study, the number of members of the treatment group was 5, so the total research sample amounted to 5 x 9, namely 45 samples. The results showed that there was a differentiation in the level of inflammation represented by the level of IL-6 and NF-κB and lung mitochondrial biogenesis level represented by PGC-1α, TOM20, and COX IV with moringa administration in physical activities, as indicated by the comparison of the mean values of the inflammatory process and lung mitochondrial biogenesis in the nine treatment groups. The implication of this research is that it is necessary to consider appropriate sport strategies or guidelines for individuals who exercise in a polluted environment to reduce the negative impact on the respiratory system and overall lung health.

Abstract

This research is a quantitative study with a correlational design that aims to determine the relationship between motor learning and cognitive function in students of public elementary schools in Kuantan Tengah District, Kuantan Singingi Regency, Riau Province. The population of this study was fifth grade students for the 2022/2023 school year, with a population of 627 children spread across 27 public elementary schools. The sampling technique used in this research is random sampling. With this technique, I obtained a sample of 94 students. Methods of data collection using tests and measurements of cognitive function and movement skills Cognitive function uses the Concentration Grid Test (CGT) instrument and movement skills by observing movement learning. The results showed that students' cognitive function was in a good category, and their movement learning was also good. The results of the correlation analysis obtained a correlation coefficient of 0.695 > rtable = 0.396. This shows that there is a significant relationship between movement learning and cognitive function in fifth grade public elementary school students in Kuantan Tengah District for the 2022/2023 academic year. The conclusion that can be drawn from the results of the research is that one student's movement learning is influenced by cognitive function. Students who have good cognitive function tend to have good movement skills.

Abstract

Lactic acid is a by-product of anaerobic metabolism and is commonly associated with muscle fatigue. However, recent research suggests that lactic acid may also positively affect cognitive function. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the relationship between lactic acid and cognitive function in female volleyball athletes. The study involved 12 female volleyball players from the Student Education and Training Centre (PPLP) of Riau Province, and a total sampling method was utilised. Data collection involved cognitive function tests using the Concentration Grid Test (CGT) instrument and lactic acid measurements using Accutrend lactate. The results revealed a significant correlation between lactic acid and cognitive function, with athletes with higher lactic acid levels after the training session performing better on cognitive tests. This suggests that lactic acid may enhance cognitive function by increasing glucose availability, which serves as the brain’s primary energy source. However, it is essential to consider the potential negative effects of excessive lactic acid levels, such as muscle fatigue, breakdown, and lactic acidosis, on both of the body and brain. Despite demonstrating the role of lactic acid in cognitive function among female volleyball athletes, caution must be exercised to prevent undue lactic acid production. Overall, this study provides valuable insight into the intricate relationship between lactic acid and cognitive function, which has implications for optimising cognitive ability in female volleyball athletes and potentially in other professional sports. Future research is needed to establish optimal lactic acid levels for cognitive function in diverse athletic contexts.
