Abstract

Through this research, the phenomenon of agrarian twilight in rural West java was analyzed by the interactions of agrarian relations, the exclusion process, and actors that involved due to the agrarian history. With the implementation of a critical paradigm by multi method of qualitative research (historical sociology and sociological history) and case study approach, this research releases a deep study of space, temporality and contention so that it can reveal a fundamental problems inequality of agrarian structures in rural West Java from the era colonial up to the present situation. This research was conducted for six months starting from May to October 2018, primary data were collected by in-depth interviews with peasants as key informants of this research and supported by various secondary research data and other relevant documents. The data thereafter analyzed by means of three phases, as interpretative, empirical, and dialectical technique. The results showed that the erosion of the agricultural sector by the industrial and service sectors were complemented by the shrinking of agriculture land due to the conversion of agriculture land to non-agriculture. Historically, agrarian twilight was an alteration from the land accumulation by corporations that further lead to the exclusion of peasants from their land, with the period of time from colonial to the present situation. Unequal access to land, increasing land markets, power, and capital were the triggered. This situations conduced that peasants who directly faced changes in rural agrarian structure were cornered to the most vulnerable position. This condition shows the description of agrarian twilight in rural West Java.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the financial feasibility of the ground coffee production business undertaken by coffee farmers and processors by applying local innovations at the cultivation, post-harvest handling, and coffee processing stages in the coffee production centre of Garut Regency. This study used a quantitative approach to provide a comprehensive understanding of the feasibility of the ground coffee business with local innovations applied by coffee farmers and processors in Garut Regency. Local innovations in coffee production include pruning techniques, grafting, solar dryer dome technology for herbal coffee making, the use of local roasting machines, and the utilization of coffee waste into value-added products such as ceramics, organic fertilizer, and dodol. Quantitative analysis of coffee processing business feasibility based on NPV value of Rp 38,394,163, Gross B/C 1.08, Net B/C 1.25, IRR 17.73 percent, payback period 7.7. These results showed that the business carried out by ground coffee processors in the production centre area is feasible. These results of the sensitivity analysis show that an increase in the price of coffee fruit raw materials at a limit of 16.67 percent and a decrease in ground coffee production at a limit of 11.37percent still produces a positive value and the business is still feasible. These results of the switching value analysis explain that the tolerance limit for the increase in the price of coffee fruit raw materials can be tolerated if the rise is no more than 26.66 percent and the decrease in ground coffee production does not exceed 7.023percent if it exceeds within 1 year then the business is not feasible.

Abstract

Hanjeli (Coix lacryma-jobi L.) is a local cereal crop with strong potential as an alternative food source and economic commodity rooted in local wisdom. However, the development of hanjeli agribusiness still faces several challenges, such as limited resources, suboptimal marketing strategies, and low public awareness. This study aims to evaluate the economic feasibility and formulate sustainable business strategies for hanjeli agribusiness at the Pantastik Cooperative in Wado, Sumedang. A case study approach was employed, combining a qualitative method using the Sustainable Business Model Canvas (SBMC) framework and a quantitative approach through farm feasibility analysis. The results indicate that the hanjeli business model demonstrates strengths in its value proposition, particularly in delivering eco-social benefits such as farmer empowerment, biodiversity conservation, and environmental preservation. Nevertheless, the model also encounters critical barriers in distribution channels, limited access to capital, and human resource capacity. The feasibility analysis reveals that hanjeli farming is economically viable, with an R/C ratio of 2.4 indicating profitability, and a break-even point (BEP) of 128 kg per production cycle. This study highlights significant opportunities to advance sustainable hanjeli agribusiness through the strategic integration of economic, social, and environmental dimensions. The findings imply the need for collaborative efforts among government stakeholders, cooperatives, the private sector, and communities to strengthen the resilience and sustainability of inclusive local agribusiness systems.

Urban fringe areas play a strategic role in supporting food security and community empowerment, including through the presence of Women Farmers Groups (KWT). This study aims to analyze group dynamics in KWT 09 Dewi Sri, a relatively new group actively involved in urban agriculture in Cipagalo Village, Bandung Regency. The research used a case study method with a descriptive approach and scoring analysis on nine elements of group dynamics, involving 21 respondents. The results show that KWT 09 Dewi Sri falls into the dynamic category with a total score of 2,396 out of a maximum of 2,583. This dynamic is reflected in the members’ active participation, cohesiveness, and spirit of mutual cooperation. Despite limited facilities and external support, the group has maintained independence and consistency in its activities. These findings highlight that strong group dynamics are a key factor in ensuring sustainability and strengthening solidarity in urban fringe communities.

Abstract

The risk management process begins with identifying potential risks that may occur in a business. Greenhouse X is an urban farming enterprise in Bandung City whose supply of water spinach (kangkung) has not been able to optimally meet market demand. Greenhouse X also partners with other farmers to help fulfill supply needs, but supplier partners are often inconsistent in meeting supply demands. There are risks in water spinach production that lead to uncertainty in supply quantity, which can harm the business. This research aims to analyze production risk events in hydroponic water spinach at Greenhouse X and its supplier partners. The study uses a qualitative design with a case study method analyzed descriptively. The results identify 19 production risk events with varying severity levels. The highest-risk events with a serious impact (Si=9) are plant death during growth and root rot. Other high-impact risks include harvest delays and unmet product quantity were identified as having extreme impacts (Si=8).

Abstract

KTH Giri Senang is one of the largest coffee production centers in Cilengkrang District, Bandung Regency. However, the inventory management of green beans at KTH Giri Senang is still inefficient, often experiencing shortages. This study aims to analyze how the inventory management of green beans at KTH Giri Senang can be optimized. The methods used in this study include Economic Order Quantity (EOQ), Reorder Point, safety stock, and total inventory cost. This research employs a case study method with a qualitative approach, and data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation. Based on the research results, the calculations are as follows: EOQ is 54,068 kg, optimal ordering frequency is 2 times per year, total inventory cost is Rp. 9,830,614, safety stock is 1,902 kg, and Reorder Point is 3,002 kg. However, KTH Giri Senang cannot directly implement the EOQ method calculations due to capital constraints. Therefore, KTH needs to improve cash flow, increase sales and marketing, expand partnership networks, and provide training to members on inventory management. The implementation of these strategies is expected to help KTH Giri Senang address inventory management issues, allowing coffee production operations to run more efficiently and reducing the risk of green bean shortages in the future.

Abstract

District Jatigede is the center of production of mango gedong gincu, the bigst in the Regency of Sumedang. Mango gedong gincu is unique because it has a little red color between the color yellow dominant. Although District Jatigede is one center of production of mango gedong in the Regency Sumedang, it is the second bigst production of mango gedong at the province Level after Regency Indramayu based on 2021 data. Even so, it has yet to be widely known by consumers or people. Hence, the chain supply of mango gedong is interesting to study. This case study uses an analysis structure chain supply to see the flow of products, information, and money linked to commodities mango gedong. Actor tracing in this study approaches the rapid market appraisal method. This study shows four supply chain structures; generally, the chain supplies mango gedong in the Regency Sumedang were sold to local collectors to sell to the big collectors in the Regency of Majalengka or Cirebon. That is due to the center city Majalengka and Cirebon's proximity to District Jatigede compared to Sumedang city center. Apart from that, there are packing houses in Majalengka and Cirebon that are also representative.
