Abstract

This study aims to analyze the verbal and nonverbal communication styles used by Nadia Omara in the YouTube content Kisah Horor Wawak Episode Izin Penunggu Part 351. The research is based on communication theory, particularly verbal and nonverbal communication concepts, as well as digital storytelling approaches. A qualitative descriptive method was employed by analyzing the video transcript and observing communication elements such as diction, intonation, facial expressions, and gestures. The results show that Nadia Omara utilizes an expressive and persuasive communication style through the use of informal language, repetitive expressions, and dramatic narration. Nonverbal elements, including voice modulation, pauses, and facial expressions, play a crucial role in building tension and emotional engagement. The integration of verbal and nonverbal communication effectively strengthens storytelling and enhances audience immersion in horror narratives. This study highlights the importance of communication style in digital media content, particularly in creating engaging and emotionally impactful storytelling experiences.

Abstract

This study analyzes the differences in the construction of the reality of forest and land fires (karhutla) in Riau Province between KOMPAS.com and Tribun Pekanbaru.com. The novelty of this study lies in the systematic comparison between media from two different hierarchical levels, which has not been widely done in studies of forest fire framing in Indonesia, as well as the explicit integration of framing analysis with Berger and Luckmann's theory of social reality construction. The study uses a qualitative approach with the framing analysis method of Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki's model, which dissects news texts into four structures: syntactic, script, thematic, and rhetorical. The primary data sources are eight news articles published between February and April 2026, selected purposively from both media. The analysis results show that KOMPAS.com frames karhutla as an ecological and environmental conservation issue triggered by natural factors such as dry weather and peat conditions, by emphasizing scientific data and the institutional resilience of Manggala Agni. In contrast, Tribun Pekanbaru.com frames forest and land fires as an ongoing, uncontrolled crisis, emphasizing the recurring cycle of fires, the failure of initial suppression efforts, and the direct impact on the lives of villagers. This difference in framing reflects the influence of each media outlet's geographic location, emotional proximity to the event, audience size, and editorial orientation. This study concludes that both media outlets direct readers toward a naturalization of the disaster and amplification of the heroic discourse of officials in the field, while simultaneously ignoring structural factors such as the role of corporations, land conversion, and weak law enforcement. Thus, the reality of forest fires is constructed differently depending on the media hierarchy, with KOMPAS.com tending to construct narratives from the perspective of central policy and official data, while constructing reality from the perspective of the community's direct experience amidst the haze.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the verbal and non-verbal communication strategies used by Mama Gina and Appa Jay on the Kimbab Family YouTube channel, as well as to evaluate their alignment with the characteristics of authoritative parenting according to Diana Baumrind's theory. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study applies Klaus Krippendorff's qualitative content analysis method with an inductive category approach. The units of analysis include conversation transcripts and visual gestures from six main videos containing one-on-one deep talk interaction scenarios between the parents and their three children: Suji, Yunji, and Jio. The results indicate that verbal communication strategies are implemented through opinion stimulation, validation of negative emotions, and evaluation of sibling dynamics. These are reinforced by non-verbal cues such as eye-level contact, active listening, spatial proximity, and tactile touch (hugs and hand-holding) which effectively foster children's psychological safety. Theoretically, Mama Gina and Appa Jay's interpersonal communication practices highly align with Baumrind's authoritative parenting model, which successfully balances rational control and emotional responsiveness while respecting children's autonomy of thought in the digital space.
