Abstract

The country of Indonesia is currently published as the second largest contributor of plastic waste in the world, amounting to 28.4 thousand tons of plastic waste / day. Plastic has caused problems in the environment and become waste that is difficult to be reprocessed. Ecobricks (environmentally friendly brick) are made from plastic waste so that it can reduce environmental pollution caused by garbage so as to minimize the generation of plastic waste and prevent air from arising from the process of making ecobricks without having to go through surgery. This study discusses polypropylene (PP) glass packaging and refined aggregate containing carbonate mixtures with a variation of 5%, 7% and on the compressive strength and movement of concrete water according to PUBI, 1982. From the results of the research, the highest compressive strength of the concrete block with PP plastic mixture and 5% carbonate mixture at 28 days is 93 kg / cm2 . Batako at the time of 28 days, the highest absorption of air (absorption) occurred in a normal brick that is 14 66%.Keywords: ecobricks, polypropylene (PP), calcium carbonate, compressive strength, absorbtion

Abstract

The increasing use of fuel oil in line with population growth and industrial growth, demands a thought to explore and develop potential alternative energy sources. Alternative energy sources that can be used as renewable energy include briquettes derived from biomass. One of the biomass from agricultural waste is empty palm fruit bunches and spent bleaching earth, which is waste from the CPO bleaching process that is not used optimally. Utilization of empty palm fruit bunches by adding spent bleaching earth which can be used as solid fuel in the form of briquettes through a carbonization process with the addition of tapioca as adhesive. Keywords: Briquettes, empty palm fruit bunches, pressure, tapioca

Abstract

The population of Pekanbaru City grows increasingly every year, especially in Bukit Raya Sub-district. The higher number of motorcycle used by the people as a transportation directly affect the amount of CO2 emissions generated from each vehicles. This study aims to calculate the volume of vehicles and predict CO2 emissions from the number of vehicles in Bukit Raya District. The methodology used in this study is the calculation of the number of vehicles on Sudirman Street, Teuku Bey and Karya I, the calculation of the conversion of the number of vehicles with units of passenger cars (SMP), and calculation of CO2 emissions on effective and non effective day in Bukit Raya District. Total emissions generated from transport activities in Bukit Raya District are 422 ton CO2 / day on effective day and 241,46 ton CO2 / day on non effective day. Keywords: Carbon Dioxide Emissions, Passenger Car Unit (SMP), Emission Factor, Transportation.

Abstract

Peat water has high color intensity, low pH, high levels of organic matter, turbidity and low suspended particle content and low cation content. Peat water test results produce high levels of color and organic matter parameters in peat water. Where, a high level of parameters can cause problems caused by consuming peat water without treatment including making teeth brittle due to acidic water. And peat water also contains organic or inorganic substances that can disrupt the body's metabolism. Keywords: Activated Carbon, Alum, Color, Organic matte, Peat Water

Abstract

Ozone is one of strong oxidant agent with potential oxidation value of 2,08 eV. Character of ozone are sharp-smelling and an unstable form composed of three oxygen atoms (O). Since 1990s, the using of ozone developed very wide and rapidly where ozone is used for drinking water treatment and wastewater treatment, sterilization of food and equipment, preservatives and odor removal. Ozone known with radical hydroxyl (OH•) which easily react with organic or inorganic compounds. In this research aims to calculate and measure the productivity of ozone generator with brand ozonizer WS88011i. This research used oxygen from the ambient air as the feed gas. Productivity of ozone generators analysis by iodometry refers to the International Ozone Association Standarized Ozone Procedure Iodometric Method 001/1996. The results showed the productivity of ozonizer WS88011i based on corona discharge method can produce dosage of ozone with range 0,239 - 0,264 g/hour.Keywords: ozone, ozone generator, productivity of ozone

Abstract

The industrial waste especially textile waste is one of the causes of environmental problems that require effective and efficient processing. Adsorption is a separation method that is simple, easy to operate, flexible, affordable cost anddoes not produce toxic products. The purpose of this study calculates theefficiency of decreasing the concentration of the colors contained in metyhleneblue dye and studying the adsorption capacity to variations in pH 2, 4, 6, and 8, adsorbent mass variation 1; 1,5; 2; and temperature variation 40º, 60º, and 80º. The maximum wavelength of the dye methylene blue 660 nm.The efficiency of 98,07 % decline in the highest concentration. Isothermcorresponding to methylene blue dye adsorption by spent bleaching earth isLangmuir isotherm with adsorption capacity to variations in pH of 4,592 mg/g, the adsorbent mass variation of 4,592 mg/g, the temperature variation of 3,565mg/g.Keywords: Adsorption, Methylene Blue, Fly Ash, Efficiency Decreased Concentration, Adsorption Capacity

Abstract

Energy requirements for household cooking needs still depend on LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas). However, the lack of LPG supply and poor distribution are still obstacles in the community. Biomass waste is one of the alternative fuels for society so that cooking energy needs can be met. The objective of research is to study the effect of type of biomass and biomass size on the performance of gasification stoves by using a water boiling test (WBT) analysis. The experiments were carried out in batches with two WBT phases, namely cold start and hot start. The first stage was a cold start, where the tester uses a stove at room temperature an a number of fuels to boil 2.5 liters of water in a standard pan. The second stage was called the hot start test, where water is boiled with a hot stove with the aim of identifying the difference in the stove’s power when it’s cold and when it’s hot. In addition, the flame temperature and stove operating time are the performance parameters of the stove champion gasification stove. Water content for each biomass used is between 10-13%. The resulting flame color is reddish yellow with a fire height of 30-72 cm. The maximum flame temperature produced by the stove is 806,3 oC using mahogany wood. Key words: biomass gasification, gasification stove, water boiling test (WBT).

Abstract

Domestic wastewater based on its characteristics is divided into two type which is black water and grey water. Grey water that directly flowed into the environment is one of the main causes of water pollution. The high content of organic matter causes grey water must be treated. Microorganisms can be use to treat this grey water one of them is microalgae Chlorella sp which consume organic matter as a source of nutrients for its growth. In this study, the addition of the Kaldness 1 (K1) biocarrier as a medium for attaching microorganisms were performed on the Sequencing Batch Biofilm Reactor (SBBR) process. Microalgae Chlorella sp. grown as suspended in grey water and attached to Kaldness 1 (K1). This study aims to examine ammonia parameters in grey water. Variations that use in this treatment are reaction times of 60, 90 and 120 minutes and media filling volumes of 0, 20, 40 and 60%. The best results for ammonia removal was 83% in a reactor filled with 20% Kaldness 1 as biocarrier and a reaction time of 120 minutes. Keywords: SBBR, Biocarrier Kaldness 1, Chlorella sp., Grey Water.

Abstract

Spent bleaching earth (SBE) is solid waste that is produced from the bleaching industry of palm oil (CPO). In principle, SBE can be regenerated and reused as an adsorbent, but its adsorption capability is limited. This weakness can be overcome through an activation process using one type of mineral acid such as hydrochloric acid (HCl). HCl as a chemical activator can reduce the moisture content in the resulting adsorbent and can dissolve impurities so that more adsorbent pores are formed. This study aims to determine the effect of the effect on HCl concentration and contact time of iodine activation number and SBE surface area. Keywords: Adsorbent, Activation, HCl, Spent Bleaching Earth.
