Abstract

Oil palm frond juice (OPFJ) has the potential as a promising bioethanol forming substrate because of the simple high sugar composition with a total COD content of 36.364 g / L. In this study, the microorganisms used were S. cerevisiae, the best fungi for bioethanol fermentation This study aims to determine the effect of inoculum concentration of S. cerevisae on the fermentation of the oil palm frond juice (OPFJ) for the process of bioethanol formation, allowance for COD, formation for Volatile Suspended Solid (VSS).The study was conducted using 250 ml erlenmeyer with a working volume of 150 ml with a ratio of S.cerevisae as much as 10%; 20%; 30% and 40% (v/v) with a OPFJ substrate content; 90%; 80%: 70% and 60% (v/v) at 100 rpm for 72 hours. Based on the results of the study, the highest efficiency of COD dissolved as a 50%, respectively. VSS growth is 168 m/L/hour with efficiency of growth is 41% through Reactor R1 (S.cerevisiae: Substrate = 30:70). It produces the highest bioethanol formation with the 10 % addition of S. cerevisiae (v/v) of 25,42 mg/L with the efficiency of bioethanol formation is 83% with stirring 100 rpm at 48 hours.Keywords : Fermentation, Bioethanol, Juice Oil Palm Fronds, Saccaromyces cerevisiae

Abstract

The gasification stove is one of the technologies for converting biomass into thermal energy for cooking that energy saving and environmental friendly. The gasification stove can increase thermal efficiency up to twice and the energy relatively larger than biomass combustion with conventional methods. The objective of research is to study the effect of secondary air flow rates on the perfomance of the gasification stove. This research uses three units gasification stove with dimension outer cylinder of the stove 1(H1 = 30 cm, D1 = 17 cm); stove 2 (H2 = 30 cm, D2 = 20 cm) and stove 3 (H3 = 30 cm, D3 = 23 cm). While the fuel used is teak wood. To evaluating stove perfomance procedure WBT (water boiling test) was used with response variables: burning rates, thermal efficiency, and fire power. Color, height, flame temperature of the stove are including in evaluation of stove perfomance. The experimental result obtained burning rates is approximately 14.03 to 19.55 g/minutes. Thermal efficiency of the natural draft gasification stove is approximately 29.07% to 39.9%, with the highest efficiency is on the stove with cylinder outside the stove in 23 cm diameter. The natural draft gasification stove capable of producing up to 5.9 kWth thermal energy with the highest flame temperature reaches 940oC.Keywords: biomass, gasification, natural draft, stove, thermal efficiency.

Abstract

Availability of Lokan calm shells waste (Geloina Expansa) has great potential to be used as raw material of chitosan biocoagulant. Chitosan has bioactivity properties, biodegradability, no hazardous materials and have oxygen binding force in the waste water, and it is very potential to be used as an environmentally friendly biocoagulant in the wastewater treatment process. High concentrations of detergent in water is coming from the laundry activities and it can caused decrease water quality and environmental pollution like increased levels of phosphate, because of that the preliminary treatment is needed by using coagulation-flocculation method. The research process was done gradually starting from extraction lokan calm shells to chitosan by deproteination process, demineralization and deacetylation, followed by coagulation-flocculation method. The variation of this study are dose of coagulant by 225 mg/l, 250 mg/l, 275 mg/l and 300 mg/l. The phosphate parameters was analyzed in laboratory referring to SNI 06-6989.31-2005. Based on the laboratory results, it showed that the maximum allowance of phosphate parameters were 80.71% respectively at 250 mg/l coagulant dose. From this research chitosan is able to removal phosphate parameters in laundry wastewater so that the results was obtained accordingly with some parameters PERMENLH/5/2014.Keywords: Laundry, Chitosan, phosphate, coagulation-flocculation

Abstract

Palm oil mill effluent (POME) had characteristics to COD, BOD, and protein a sequence of 40.823 mg/L, 15.309 mg/L, 40.500, 58,22 mg/L. pH was influenced the acidogenesis stage in anaerobic process. Additionally, in the stage of acidogenesis H2S was formed compounds, coused odor, inhibit bacterial growth, and corrosion on metal. The control of pH (acid, neutral and alkali) was required in order to optimize the formation of volatile fatty acids and inhibit the formation of H2S. This research is aimed to know the influence of pH and the detention time towards the elimination of H2S and know the influence of pH and the detention time of the formation of volatile acid and H2S. This research was conducted by varying pH the range of 4-4,5 (acid); 7-7,5 (neutral); 8-8.5 (alkali). The result of the research showed the lowest formation of H2S is on acids’ pH with the concentration of formation as much as 0,37 mg/L/hari and the detention time 120 hours. The highest formation of TAV was produced on acids’ pH (4-4,5) with the concentration rate of formation as much as 1.739,45 mg/L, and efficiency elimination 40,05 %. %. It can be concluded pH optimum of inhibhit the formation H2S is pH alkali. While pH optimum the formation TAV is pH acid. Keywords : H2S, total volatile fatty acid, acidogenic, POME

Abstract

Food Waste contains high concentrations of organic pollutants. The high organic concentration in food waste makes it suitable reused as an energy source. This study aims to investigate the characteristics of food waste and analyze the potential of food waste. The results of this study indicate the concentration of COD in food waste 58.514 mg / L, oil and fat amounting to 2.340 mg / L and pH 3,4. Abstract

The use of plastics and plastic-based goods is increasing with the development of technology, industry, and population. Increasing plastic demand automatically increases waste generation as well. PET is a type of plastic type 1. Brick is a building material that is still very important in construction work. In this study, we propose the use of PET waste and the potential of PET in minimizing PET waste in Indonesia. Our results show that ecological brick making products still meet the requirements of SNI 03-0349-1989, and eco-brick making has the potential to reduce PET waste in Indonesia. Abstract

Pekanbaru City as one of the metropolitan cities with a population of 1,064,566 people can produce 450,000 kg of daily waste in 2016 to be processed at the Muara Fajar TPA. The Development Area (WP) I which consists of Limapuluh, Senapelan, Sail, Sukajadi Districts, Pekanbaru City and has a total population of 175,666 inhabitants with a total area of 19.97 Km2. The high population and waste generated needs to be balanced with an adequate waste management system to avoid the formation of Illegal TPS. The purpose of this study is to map and measure TPS volumes and to analyze geophysical, anthropogenic and community characteristics by distributing questionnaires and conducting interviews. This research was conducted by conducting a direct visit to the study area with the help of the Garmin 60CSx GPS, the results of the review were then mapped with the ArcMap 10.3 application. The results of the field survey were obtained as many as 16 illegal TPS points in WP I with a total garbage volume measured of 58,514 m3. The existence factor of the river does not affect the emergence of Illegal TPS. For the type of land, it was concluded that vacant land is the most potential place for Illegal TPS, for the most potent type of road is the type of local road, the level of education and knowledge will influence attitudes and behavior of waste management, because the low level of education and lack of knowledge will increase attitudes and unhealthy behavior. Abstract

Tofu wastewater has COD and BOD concentration of 3,305 and 1,250 mg/L respectively and the volume of waste by 14-20 L/kg of soybeans were process. The low of COD content causes the anaerobic digestion process not optimal to produce methane gas, that needs to be added the other of organic matter such as cow dung. However, lignin and organic polymer in a cow dung causes the mixed of tofu wastewater and cow dung difficult to biodegradable. To improve the biodegradability could be performed by pre-treatment with ozonation process. The aims of this study to determined the effect of pH range (5.22; 8 and 10) and the time of ozonation contact (20; 40 and 60 minutes) to the COD value. The results showed an increase in the percentage of removal COD. The optimum condition was shown at pH 10 time of ozonation was 60 minutes where the percentage of removal COD was 54,8%. The conclusion of this study the higher pH and the longer time of ozonation showed the better of removal the COD.Kata Kunci : Advanced Oxidation Procces, ozonation, biodegradability, BOD5/COD ratio.

Abstract

ABSTRAK. Biogas merupakan salah satu sumber energi terbarukan, yang mampu dihasilkan dari limbah organik seperti limbah cair sawit (POME), melalui proses fermentasi anaerobik. Untuk menghindari terjadinya korosi pada peralatan, biogas hasil fermentasi diperlukan proses purifikasi untuk menyisihkan kandungan hidrogen sulfida (H2S). Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk menentukan pengaruh penggunaan monoethanolamine (MEA) pada purifikasi biogas, menentukan kondisi terbaik dari variabel penelitian (konsentrasi MEA 30%, 25%, 20%, 15% 10%, 5% v/v) yang memiliki kandungan H2S terendah, dan menentukan efisiensi proses purifikasi biogas. Purifikasi biogas dilakukan menggunakan bubble column absorber secara semi-batch, dimana biogas mentah dialirkan ke kolom yang berisi absorber MEA sebanyak 0,678 L. Biogas keluaran kolom dianalisa kandungannya menggunakan alat pengukur kandungan biogas (Biogas 5000 ©). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan MEA sebagai absorben mampu menurunkan kandungan gas H2S dan menaikkan kandungan gas CH4 di dalam biogas hasil purifikasi, serta semakin tinggi variasi konsentrasi MEA yang digunakan, maka semakin rendah kandungan H2S biogas dan semakin lama waktu absorbsi yang diperlukan untuk absorben mencapai titik jenuh. Kondisi terbaik absorbsi tercapai pada penggunaan variasi konsentrasi MEA 30% v/v, dengan kandungan H2S pada biogas hasil purifikasi 0 ppm, dan efisiensi penyisihan H2S sebesar 100%. ABSTRACT. Biogas is a renewable energy source, which can be produced from organic waste such as palm oil mill effluent (POME), through an anaerobic fermentation process.  Biogas requires a purification process to remove the content of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and carbon dioxide (CO2). The purpose of this study is to review the effect of the biogas purification process of chemical absorption of H2S and CO2 gases in raw biogas by monoethanolamine (MEA) absorbent. Biogas purification was carried out using a bubble column absorber in a semi-batch, where raw biogas was flowed into a column containing a MEA absorber of 0.678 L. The biogas content from the column was analyzed using a biogas content measuring device (Biogas 5000 ©). The result showed that removing the use of MEA as an absorbent can reduce the content of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and carbon dioxide (CO2) and improve the content of methane in biogas. Increasingly high variation concentration MEA, then the lower content of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and more time long to reach the point saturated absorbability.
