Abstract

The refrigeration system in the fishing process is important for maintaining the quality of the catch. However, the design of small-scale refrigeration machines is still not common, so it is an interesting study. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the design of small-scale fishing vessel refrigeration machines. Field studies are needed in machine manufacturing to observe the components required to match the refrigeration machine components onboard fishing vessels. This uses a direct observation method to determine the components of the refrigeration machine on the ship. Furthermore, the performance of the machines produced will be tested through the load cooling process. Parameters determined in the performance test include monitoring temperature (suction and discharge), pressure (suction and discharge), evaporator temperature, load temperature, COP (Coefficient of Performance), and compressor power. Refrigerant temperature measurement uses an insulative principle so that ambient temperature does not affect it. The result is that the machine produced has a capacity of 35 l or 15 kg of load. Meanwhile, in the performance test, the COP and electrical power generated while cooling the load for approximately 4 hours were 2,42 and 507 W, respectively. The results of this design were successful and did not experience failure. The significanceof this study can be used as a reference source for making cooling machines for storing the catch of small-scale fishermen.

Abstract

Monitoring of diesel engine operational performance on fishing vessels recorded in real time based on microcontrollers is still rarely used. Monitoring of diesel engine operations is important to ensure the engine is in optimal performance as well as a consideration for predictive maintenance actions. This study aims to design and implement a real-time monitoring device based on microcontrollers. This device can measure and record RPM, temperature, and pressure data on diesel engines with good accuracy. Hall effect sensors for RPM, DS18B20 for temperature, and piezoresistive sensors for pressure are used, to maintain the right time it is equipped with RTC, SD card module for data storage, and Wi-Fi module for data access via the web. The test results show that this device is able to measure with good accuracy on each parameter with an average error of below 2%. When the operational parameters exceed the predetermined threshold, the device successfully gives an alarm as a critical sign. This study makes a significant contribution to the management and maintenance of diesel engines with real-time data and wireless access that increases efficiency and minimizes downtime due to operational failures

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to calculate the cooling load required in Cold Storage to store fish catches. Cold Storage is an important facility in the fisheries industry to maintain the quality and freshness of the product. Accurate cooling load calculation is essential to design an efficient and energy-saving refrigeration system. The methodology used includes data collection on Cold Storage specifications, environmental conditions, and characteristics of the stored products. The cooling load is calculated by considering factors such as transmission loads through walls, roofs, and floors; product loads; air infiltration loads; internal loads from lights, equipment, and personnel; and other loads. The calculation results show that the total cooling load for Cold Storage with a certain capacity is 17.68 kW. Sensitivity analysis was conducted to evaluate the effect of various parameters on the cooling load. This study also provides recommendations for optimizing Cold Storage design and operational strategies to improve energy efficiency. The results of this study can be used as a reference in designing and operating Cold Storage for more effective and economical storage of fish catches.

Abstract

Although numerous studies have been conducted on voltage and current imbalance in electrical systems, research specifically focusing on these conditions in fishing vessels, particularly those operating in the Natuna Sea, remains very limited. This study aims to analyze the voltage and current imbalance on the generators of purse seine fishing vessels operating in the Natuna Sea, based on the IEEE Std 45-2002 and BKI Volume IV Year 2022 standards. A quantitative approach was employed, involving direct measurements of voltage (both line-to-line and phase-to-neutral) and current at the main distribution panels of five fishing vessels. The reference standard for Line Voltage Unbalance Tolerance (%LVUT) according to IEEE Std 45-2002 is ≤ 3%, while the acceptable limit for current imbalance according to BKI Volume IV Year 2022 is ≤ 15%. The results showed that the average voltage imbalance across the five vessels was below the IEEE tolerance limit (≤ 3%), with the highest recorded value being 4.34% on KM. Palembang Indah II. Meanwhile, current imbalance generally complied with the BKI limit (≤ 15%), except for KM. Rezeki Bersama, which exhibited the highest current imbalance at 30.48%. These findings highlight the need for mitigation measures, such as load redistribution and phase balancing, particularly on vessels with significant imbalance levels. This study provides practical contributions to improving the reliability of vessel electrical systems and enhancing operational safety within Indonesia’s marine fisheries sector.

Abstract

Although many studies have been conducted on the effectiveness of a generator or machine using the OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) method, research focusing on the effectiveness of electrical generators on fishing vessels has been limited. This study aims not only to measure the effectiveness of the KM. Binama 03 generator but also to provide data-driven recommendations to enhance equipment reliability in the future. The study's results showed that the average values of Availability, Performance Efficiency, Rate of Quality, and Overall Equipment Effectiveness for the KM. Binama 03 generator in February, March, and July were 97.76%, 81.36%, 79.50%, and 63.49%, respectively. These figures indicate that the OEE values of the KM. Binama 03 generator during operations in these months were still below the JIPM (Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance) minimum standard of 85%. The findings of this research are expected to provide valuable insights for maximizing the effectiveness of equipment or machinery, as the primary goal of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) is to ensure that machines remain in optimal condition without disrupting daily activities. This can only be achieved through preventive and predictive maintenance of the equipment.
