Abstract

Guidance and counseling services play a crucial role in supporting students’ academic, social, and emotional development. With technological advances, counseling services can now be conducted online through cyber counseling. This study aims to discuss the implementation stages, media, effectiveness, and limitations of cyber counseling in schools. Using a literature review method, it was found that cyber counseling consists of three main stages: preparation, counseling process, and post-counseling. Various media, such as email, phone, chat, and video conferencing, are used to support this service. Although effective in reaching students who find it difficult to meet counselors in person, cyber counseling faces several challenges, particularly in terms of empathy and technical limitations. This study concludes that cyber counseling is a valuable alternative, provided that appropriate technology use and stable internet connection are ensured.

Abstract

This study aims to explain how Lengayang 3 State Senior High School manages the management of problem students through a series of activities designed for initial identification, comprehensive assessment, intervention, and ongoing follow-up monitoring. The study used descriptive qualitative methods, using in-depth interviews, school environment observations, and document reviews as the primary data sources. The results indicate that students face various problems such as rule violations, decreased interest in learning, social conflict, and emotional stress influenced by family situations, friendships, and academic burdens. Guidance and counseling teachers handle cases through collaboration with subject teachers and homeroom teachers, followed by in-depth assessments and interventions based on a humanistic approach. Supporting factors include educator collaboration, principal support, and parental involvement. However, the limited number of guidance and counseling teachers, inadequate facilities, and the negative stigma surrounding counseling are major obstacles. These findings emphasize the importance of strengthening guidance and counseling services and improving the professionalism of guidance and counseling teachers.

Abstract

This study aims to examine in depth the forms, mechanisms, and effectiveness of partnerships established to strengthen the management of Guidance and Counseling (BK) services at SMA Negeri 2 Sutera. This study stems from the increasing diversity of student problems, limited service support facilities, and the lack of solid coordination between internal school stakeholders and external partners. The study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. Data were collected through field observations, in-depth interviews, and document review, involving BK teachers, school principals, homeroom teachers, subject teachers, parents, and partner agencies such as the Community Health Center (Puskesmas), the Police Sector, psychologists, and community leaders. Analysis was conducted using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model, which includes the stages of reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that BK services are operational but not yet fully integrated into the school management system. Internal and external partnerships have been established, but most remain spontaneous and are not supported by standardized SOPs or MoUs. Nevertheless, these collaborations continue to provide benefits in expanding service access and accelerating the handling of student cases. These findings emphasize the need for more planned, documented, and sustainable partnerships to strengthen BK management in schools.

The school does not have individual or group counseling rooms and does not provide standard assessment instruments such as General AUM, PTSDL AUM, and psychological tests. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data was obtained through interviews with BK teachers, observations of BK facilities, and field documentation. Analysis was conducted through data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña model. The results indicate that BK services continue to operate through four main service components, despite very limited facilities. BK teachers implement five strategies: the use of digital technology, the use of the living room as a counseling room, the implementation of classroom services, collaboration with homeroom teachers and subject teachers, and the use of simple media. The study concludes that BK teachers' creativity and adaptability play a significant role in maintaining service effectiveness in conditions of limited facilities.

Abstract

Guidance and counseling (BK) services play a crucial role in supporting students' academic, emotional, social, and career development. In the era of the Independent Curriculum, with its emphasis on individual potential development and learning flexibility, the need for effective BK services is becoming increasingly crucial. This study aims to analyze the role of the Principal (KS) as a driving force and manager in optimizing BK management in schools. The method used is a literature study by examining various empirical studies and theories on BK management, school leadership, and the implementation of the Independent Curriculum. The results of the study indicate that KS has a strategic role in: (1) providing structural support facilities/infrastructure and policies; (2) encouraging collaboration between BK teachers, homeroom teachers, and subject teachers; (3) conducting supervision and monitoring; (4) ensuring the integration of BK services into the school education system. However, many cases show that BK management is not optimal due to a lack of commitment, resources, or understanding of the BK function. Therefore, the role of the KS as a driving force is crucial to the success of counseling services in the era of the Independent Curriculum. Recommendations are given for strengthening commitment, training, and a structured BK management system.

Abstract

Accountability and supervision are two essential aspects in the implementation of Guidance and Counseling (GC) services in schools. Both function to ensure that all GC activities are carried out effectively, efficiently, and in accordance with professional standards. Research and literature indicate that accountability in GC includes counselors’ responsibility for program implementation, the use of resources, and the outcomes of services provided to students and stakeholders. Meanwhile, supervision serves as a control and developmental mechanism that ensures the delivery of services aligns with ethical codes and educational goals. However, the implementation of accountability and supervision in the field still faces various challenges, such as low awareness of their importance, lack of structured supervision, and limited supporting facilities. To address these issues, it is necessary to strengthen counselors’ competencies, improve data-based monitoring systems, and enhance sustainable institutional support. By consistently applying the principles of accountability and supervision, GC services in schools can become more transparent, professional, and positively impactful on students’ development.

Abstract

This article reviews various literature findings regarding the leadership role of school principals in strengthening Guidance and Counseling (BK) services oriented toward student personal development. The study focuses on three domains: the regulations that underlie the implementation of BK services, the implementation of the principal's role in daily school activities, and the challenges that frequently arise in implementing these services. Furthermore, this article offers problem-solving strategies based on the needs of today's educational institutions. Overall, the literature indicates that the success of BK services is influenced by the quality of the principal's policies, the availability of supporting facilities, and a collaborative culture among all school members.
