Abstract

Kata kunci: potensi diri; pelatihan bahasa; manajemen stress Abstract Student development is not limited to academic achievements alone but also involves various aspects that can influence their future success, such as personal skills, career readiness, and the ability to cope with emotional and social challenges. As future educators, students of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) are expected to have strong language skills, which play a crucial role in delivering educational content effectively, clearly, and engagingly to future students. Students often face pressures from multiple sources, including academic demands, exam preparation, and financial issues, all of which can increase anxiety. Additionally, social pressures, interpersonal conflicts, and the need to adapt to new social or cultural environments can significantly contribute to stress. If left unmanaged, these conditions may negatively impact students' mental and physical health. To assist students in addressing these challenges, the Student Support Unit (USM) of FKIP Universitas Tanjungpura provides free guidance services covering personal development, stress management, and language skills. One of USM’s main initiatives is a community engagement program in the form of a workshop titled "Enhancing Student Potential through Language Training and Stress Management." This workshop is designed to improve students’ language abilities and stress management skills using methods such as presentations, lectures, discussions, and Q&A sessions. Sixty students participated, representing 20 undergraduate study programs within FKIP. Through this activity, students are expected to better manage stress and develop their potential to the fullest. Keywords: personal potential; language training; stress management

Abstract

The research title of this article is “A Comparative Analysis of “MeiHua” and “HanYu” Chinese Language Textbooks”. There are various types of Chinese Language Textbooks used by elementary school in Indonesia, two of which is “MeiHua” and “HanYu”. But not all the textbooks are completely suitable for Indonesian students, especially since Chinese is taught as a foreign language. In Chinese textbooks there are several important components, one of which is topic and vocabulary. Therefore, this study employs the literature review method and comparative analysis to examine and compare the topics and vocabulary found in the 'MeiHua' Volumes 1–6 and 'HanYu' Volumes 1–6 Chinese language textbooks, using the Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language Education as a reference. Based on the result of the research, this article found that the similarities between the two textbooks lie in the topics that frequently appear, while the differences are seen in the scope and focus of the topics taught. In terms of vocabulary, although the amount of vocabulary in both textbooks does not meet certain standards, they are still suitable for the developmental process of learning Chinese at the elementary level. In addition, MeiHua has a more balanced vocabulary distribution and is in line with YCT Level 3 objectives, while Hanyu is more in line with the needs of overseas Chinese students and follows the primary school Chinese syllabus.

Mandarin is becoming one of the most essential foreign languages to learn due to China's rapid and dominant economic and political advancements. This trend has led to the integration of Mandarin language instruction in both formal and non-formal education settings, including within the Economics Education Study Program at Tanjungpura University. The findings indicate that the majority of students are beginner learners who require foundational learning strategies. These strategies should be reinforced with more interactive classroom activities, such as translation exercises, speaking practice, and group-based learning. The study emphasises the importance of providing materials and topics relevant to students' fields of study. It is anticipated that these findings will serve as a valuable reference for designing teaching methods and materials that are well-suited to the academic and professional needs of the students.
