Abstract

Sexual violence, bullying, and drug abuse are social problems frequently experienced by students in higher education. The risk factors for these three problems are diverse, involving interacting psychosocial, environmental, and personal aspects. This article aims to provide a comprehensive review of the factors contributing to the increased risk of sexual violence, bullying, and drug abuse among college students. Using a literature review approach, this study compiled and analyzed relevant previous research findings from psychological, sociological, and public health perspectives. The findings indicate that factors such as academic pressure, domestic violence, mental health disorders, and the dynamics of social relationships on campus are key triggers. Furthermore, existing social norms in the campus environment, such as patriarchal culture and a lack of awareness of the importance of mental health, contribute to these conditions. This study also identifies the importance of preventative measures through sex education, student empowerment, and support from mental health and social services on campus. In conclusion, the risk factors for sexual violence, bullying, and drug abuse among college students are multidimensional, requiring a holistic, community-based approach to addressing them.

Abstract

Sarcoptes scabiei, a variant of the hominid mite, is the cause of scabies, a skin infestation. In Indonesia, scabies accounted for three of the top 12 skin infestations. Scabies infections are particularly common in islamic boarding schools largely due to poor personal hygiene, which increases the risk of the students being infected. This study aimed to determine the relationship between personal hygiene and the prevalence of scabies. A total of 184 samples that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were obtained for this study using a cross-sectional method and purposive sampling. Fisher’s exact test and Chi-square analysis were performed on the data. The results showed that the prevalence of scabies is 28.8%. The findings indicate a significant relationship between the prevalence of scabies and showering behavior (p=0.002), hand and nail hygiene (p=0.006), and bedding hygiene (p=0.013). However, no correlation was found between the prevalence of scabies and clothing hygiene (p=0.931). When considering overall showering habits, hand and nail hygiene, and bedding hygiene, there was a significant correlation between student hygiene and scabies prevalence (p=0.030). Islamic boarding schools could address this issue by promoting clean and healthy living habits, imposing sanctions for violations, and cooperating with health facilities to carry out periodic treatment for students suffering from scabies.

Abstract

During pregnancy, women are at risk of developing anemia, which can increase the likelihood of preterm birth and, in severe cases, lead to maternal or infant mortality. Anemia in pregnancy is influenced by multiple factors, and identifying these determinants can facilitate effective prevention. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of anemia among pregnant women and the factors associated with it. The research used a cross-sectional design with 100 pregnant women living in the working area of Nagaswidak Public Health Center, Palembang, as subjects. Samples were selected using a consecutive sampling method. Hemoglobin levels were measured using a hemoglobin test strip, while other variables were obtained through questionnaires. Bivariate analysis was conducted using the chi-square test. The results showed that gestational age (p-value=0,032), pregnancy spacing (p-value=0,017), compliance with iron tablet consumption (p-value=0,004), and nutritional status (p-value=0,000) were significantly associated with anemia in pregnant women. Meanwhile, maternal age (p-value=0,064), education (p-value=0,703), occupation (p-value=0,908), parity (p-value=0,444), knowledge (p-value=0,251), and dietary patterns (p-value=0,965) were not significantly related. Efforts to prevent anemia in pregnancy should focus on improving iron tablet compliance, monitoring nutritional status, and promoting optimal pregnancy spacing.

Abstract

Purpose: Adolescents are very vulnerable to depression because adolescence is a period of psychological development. Research on family function in adolescents experiencing depression is still limited. This study aims to determine the association of family assessment tools with depression in adolescents. Methods: This study was an observational, cross-sectional analysis conducted from October to December 2024. The population of this study was all high school students at SMAN 4 Palembang, and the sample was all 3rd-grade students who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. A total of 177 respondents were included. The independent variable studied was the family assessment tools, and the dependent variable was depression. The Family function examination is assessed using the APGAR score, which consists of adaptation, partnership, growth, affection, and resolve. In contrast, the SCREEM consists of social, cultural, religious, economic, educational, and medical. Adolescent mental health was measured using the Children's Depression Inventory Questionnaire. The data were then analyzed using the chi-square test, and the Fisher test if the chi-square test did not meet its assumptions. Results: There were significant relationships between APGAR score (p-value=0.000), social (p-value=0.001), culture (p-value=0.003), religion (p-value=0.000), and education (p-value=0.003) and adolescent depression. There is no relationship between the economy (p-value 0.387) and access to health (p-value=0.797) in depression in adolescents. Conclusion: APGAR scores can be integrated into family folders within health services to facilitate practitioners' involvement of families in depression management. Families are expected to play a greater role, especially in the social, cultural, religious, and educational spheres.

Abstract

Stunting is a long-term nutritional issue that impacts children’s physical and cognitive development. Efforts to prevent stunting need to be initiated early through nutritional education and improvement of health behaviors, including oral hygiene. Nutritional problem and dental health are interrelated because dental and oral disorders such as caries can reduce children’s appetite and nutritional intake, thereby worsening the risk of stunting. This activity aimed to increase the nutritional knowledge and understanding the oral hygiene of preschoolers and parents through interactive education and supplementary feeding (PMT) of Moris Cookies made from Moringa Leaves as a source of nutrients. This activity was conducted at PAUD Mutiara Hati, Jejawi Village, involving 20 children and parents. The education was delivered through stunting counceling, the practice of brushing teeth using Tooth Doll and the distribution of PMT Moris Cookies. The result of this activity showed that 66.6% of respondents understood the educationional materials provided, and the children showed enthusiasm for the consumption of Moris Cookies and the practice of brushing their teeth. This activity contributed to improving nutrition and oral hygiene knowledge and it is expected to be the first step in supporting stunting prevention efforts at the preschoolers level.
