Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of the Pencak Silat coach training program on athlete development in North Sumatra in 2024. Using a quantitative approach and an experimental design, this research compares two groups of athletes: one trained by coaches who attended the training program and one trained by coaches who did not. Data were collected through questionnaires, skill tests, observations, and documentation of athletes' achievements. The results showed that athletes trained by coaches who attended the training program exhibited better technical skills, physical qualities, mental strength, and motivation compared to those trained by non-participating coaches. Additionally, athletes trained by coaches who participated in the program performed better in provincial and national competitions. Based on statistical analysis, the coach training program positively influenced athlete development with a p-value < 0.05. This study concludes that the Pencak Silat coach training program can enhance coaching quality and athlete performance, making it essential to continue and expand its implementation throughout North Sumatra.

Abstract

The magnitude of the sickle strike directly influences the number of match points that can be achieved in the martial art of Pencak Silat. The aim of this study is to undertake a comprehensive analysis of the impact of different types of Total Body Resistance Exercise training on the speed of Pencak silat sickle kicks performed by teenagers. This research methodology utilises a hypothetical inquiry that consists of two distinct groups: an experimental group and a control group. The subjects of this study were combatants who had engaged in the practice of Pencak silat at State Vocational High School (SMK) Negeri 1 Stabat. There were a total of 52 participants who met the requirements for this inquiry. The sample was gathered using purposive sampling, which followed the specified criteria. To participate, one must have attended Pencak silat training sessions at SMK N 1 Stabat, have a high level of skill in the fundamental methods of the sickle kick, be between the ages of 17 and 19, and be willing to serve as a study sample. The confirmation of eligibility for a group of 33 individuals, consisting of 17 girls and 16 males, resulted from the assessment of these specific criteria. This research apparatus is utilised to assess the speed of Pencak silat kicks and estimate the impact of sickle blows. Consequently, Total Body Resistance Exercise training affects the speed of sickle kicks. However, there is no noticeable statistically significant variation in sickle kick speed among adolescent Pencak Silat practitioners.

Abstract

In facing this big event which is held every 4 years, the National Sports Week is a place to "show off" for sports people in Indonesia. There are many things that need to be prepared, starting from the venue, competition equipment, supporting infrastructure to the community's readiness to welcome this "Party". Several factors influence athletes to be able to achieve achievements in a sporting event, including physical readiness, intensive training, strategic maturity and mental health to compete. Not infrequently mentality is a determining factor in competition. Long training and physical abilities as well as good strategies will be destroyed in the competition arena if the athlete's own mental state is not developed. Athletes' mental health will become increasingly disturbed as the match gets closer. A good coach certainly prepares and pays attention to his team's children from all aspects. In an effort to provide mental development for athletes, this research tries to identify facts in the field. This research data will be taken factually from individual athletes using a personal approach and also questionnaires as data support. The results of the research will show how each athlete's mental health is before competing, so that coaches can take steps to encourage, motivate and indoctrinate athletes who have mental disorders. Anxiety, fear, decreased concentration, lack of self-confidence, lack of enthusiasm, lost aggressiveness, and even intelligence in competition are mental factors that influence performance in the arena. If these factors can be minimized as early as possible, then 75% of athletes' wins are in sight. A healthy mentality when competing will greatly influence your performance. No matter how strong the opponent is, it will be very easy to beat if the athlete has a good mentality. The aim of this research is to provide accurate information regarding the mental state of North Sumatra Pencak Silat Pelatda athletes in 2023 in preparation for the XXI PON competition.

Abstract

Objectives: This study investigated the correlation between traditional Silat training and motor skill development in elementary school children aged 7-12 years in Medan, Indonesia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 120 elementary school students from three schools in Medan city. Participants were divided into two groups: Silat practitioners (n=60) with minimum 6 months training experience, and control group (n=60) with no martial arts background. Motor skills were assessed using the Test of Gross Motor Development-3 (TGMD-3) and Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency-2 (BOT-2). Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 28.0. Results: Silat practitioners demonstrated significantly higher motor skill scores compared to the control group (p<0.001). Strong positive correlations were found between training duration and gross motor skills (r=0.78, p<0.001), fine motor skills (r=0.65, p<0.001), and overall motor proficiency (r=0.82, p<0.001). The Silat group showed superior performance in balance (18.4±2.1 vs 14.2±2.8), coordination (19.6±1.9 vs 15.3±2.4), and bilateral coordination (17.8±2.3 vs 13.9±2.7). Conclusion: Traditional Silat training shows strong positive correlation with enhanced motor skill development in elementary school children, suggesting its potential as an effective physical education intervention for improving fundamental movement skills.
