Abstract

ABSTRACT Ebier-Suth Cokran has a land area of 6,200 hectares, with 200 hectares currently being managed to produce dried cocoa beans, which are processed into cocoa powder and chocolate bars. As a company that cares about society, PT. Ebier-Suth Cokran applies an organic farming system in its operations, in line with the company's motto "The social and green company PT. Ebier-Suth Cokran, agroforestry cocoa plantations (by the community for the community)." One of the company's achievements is the Cacao of Excellence Gold Award, an international recognition of the quality of the products produced. However, the results of the FGD indicate several challenges that need to be addressed to maintain the company's productivity in the future. Some of the issues that need to be tackled include: expanding planting areas to meet market demand, planting superior clones with high production potential, rejuvenating cocoa plants and protective trees, using organic fertilizers, and controlling pests and diseases organically without relying on inorganic fertilizers and pesticides. In addition, training programs for youth and women in cocoa bean processing need to be strengthened to support the sustainability of the company.  Keywords: Chocolate; Cocoa; Disease; Fermentation; Organic ABSTRAK PT. Abstract

Abstract  Sorong Regency is the food barn of Sorong Raya, which includes Sorong Regency, South Sorong Regency, Sorong City, Maybrat Regency, Tambrauw Regency, and Raja Ampat Regency. The egg production of Sorong Regency is used to meet the needs of Sorong Regency as well as the Greater Sorong area, including Sorong City, South Sorong Regency, and Raja Ampat Regency. This study aims to analyze the production or performance of laying hens and evaluate the quality of eggs laid by hens in Sorong Regency. The method used in this research is the descriptive method, involving data collection techniques based on direct observation in the field, interviews with farmers, laboratory testing, and observation. Eight farmers were interviewed, and egg samples were taken to be tested for their quality. The average number of eggs taken from each farmer was 30 eggs per week, totaling between 117 and 120 eggs. The variables observed included 1) Performance, which involved feed consumption, feed conversion, and depletion. 2) Hen Day Production (HDP), and 3) Egg quality. The collected data were processed and presented in tables to determine the total and average values. Correlation tests were applied to examine the relationship between hen age and egg production, external egg quality, which includes egg weight, egg shape index, shell weight, shell thickness, and internal egg quality, including yolk color and Haugh unit. The study results revealed that 1) Hen Day Production of laying hens in Sorong Regency is still below the normal standard of daily egg production for ISA Brown laying hens. 2) On average, feed consumption and total depletion of laying hens in Sorong Regency are within the standard range, but the feed conversion value is still high and has not met the standard feed conversion value for ISA Brown laying hens. 3) Based on data on egg weight, IBT, shell weight, and shell thickness, the external egg quality of laying hens in Sorong Regency, according to BSN (3926: 2008), falls into the Medium category. Meanwhile, based on data on Air Cavity Depth, Yolk Color, and Haugh Unit, the internal quality of eggs from laying hens in Sorong Regency, according to BSN (3926: 2008), falls into Quality I. Keywords: Egg production; Egg quality; ISA Brown laying hens; Sorong Regency,   Abstrak  Kabupaten Sorong merupakan lumbung pangan Sorong Raya yang meliputi Kabupaten Sorong, Kabupaten Sorong Selatan, Kota Sorong, Kabupaten Maybrat, Kabupaten Tambrauw dan Kabupaten Raja Ampat.  Produksi telur ayam ras Kabupaten Sorong digunakan untuk menyuplai kebutuhan Kabupaten Sorong serta kebutuhan daerah Sorong Raya antara lain Kota Sorong, Kabupaten Sorong Selatan, dan Kabupaten Raja Ampat. Abstract

This study assessed the production performance and technical efficiency of independent broiler farmers in Sorong Regency, Indonesia, using a stochastic frontier framework. The objective of the research is to quantify the influence of major production inputs on output, estimate technical efficiency levels, and evaluate the extent to which inefficiency contributes to variations in broiler performance under open-house production conditions. Primary data were collected from active broiler farmers and analyzed using a Cobb–Douglas stochastic frontier production function estimated through maximum likelihood procedures to obtain input elasticities and individual efficiency scores. The results indicated that broiler production performed competitively, with a performance index of 456, low mortality, and an efficient feed conversion ratio. The production frontier estimation showed that day-old chicks and feed were the dominant determinants of output, while medication, electricity, and fuel inputs did not exert statistically significant effects. Average technical efficiency reached 0.89, with 86.6 percent of farmers operating at high-efficiency levels. The gamma parameter of 0.83 indicated that most output variation stemmed from technical inefficiency rather than random disturbances, underscoring the relevance of managerial capacity in shaping production outcomes. The study concludes that improving the quality of biological inputs and strengthening managerial practices is essential for sustaining productivity among independent broiler farmers. The findings provide empirical guidance for technical training programs, input quality improvement, and targeted interventions to enhance production efficiency in eastern Indonesia.
