Abstract

Speaking is one of crucial language skills that must be mastered by language learners as well as in learning English. In this study, speaking became the main problem dealt by the students especially the eleventh grade students of SMA PGRI 6. The objective of this study was to figure out whether or not speaking skill could be improved by implementing British Parliamentary style debate in the teaching learning process. The results of the post-test in each cycle pointed out there were significant improvements on the subjects’ speaking after implementing British Parliamentary style debate. In addition, the mean figure of the reflection of each cycle, cycle I and II, was 64.93 in cycle I and 76.37 in cycle II. On the other hand, the subjects responded by giving positive responses toward the implementation of British Parliamentary style debate in teaching and learning process. Thus, the present classroom action research showed that speaking skill of the eleventh-grade students of SMA PGRI 6 Denpasar could be improved by implementing British Parliamentary style debate.

Abstract

The study is aimed at finding the correlation between vocabulary mastery and descriptive writing ability of the tenth-grade students. It aims to find out whether there is a significant correlation or not between students’ vocabulary mastery and descriptive writing ability. This present study used 33 samples of the tenth-grade students. The researcher used tests to collect the data of vocabulary mastery and descriptive writing ability. The technique of analysing the data by using SPSS version 25.0 for Mac. The result of the analysis data showed that the coefficient correlation (r) was 0.716, with the level of significance was 0.000. It indicated that there was a positive significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and descriptive writing ability of the tenth-grade students.

Abstract

The objective of the present study was to find out whether the reading comprehension of the students of SMA (SLUA) Saraswati 1 Denpasar could be improved through Listen-Read-Discuss Strategy. The researcher administered three research instruments, namely pre-test, post-tests and questionnaire. The students' means score showed a significant improvement from the pre-test was 63.5 to 73.3 in cycle I and 81.3 in cycle II. Furthermore, to collect the additional data, the researcher administered the questionnaire at the end of cycle II. It showed that the students responded positively which showed the percentage of 46.59% strongly agreed, 52.72% agreed, 0.68% undecided, 0% disagreed and 0% strongly disagreed. Based on the results of this study, it could be concluded that the Listen-Read-Discuss Strategy could improve the students’ reading comprehension of students of SMA (SLUA) Saraswati 1 Denpasar.

Abstract

This research was conducted to figure out whether the subjects’ speaking skill can be improved use the Think Pair Share Combined with Video. The subjects were the eighth-grade students of SMA (SLUA) Saraswati 1 Denpasar. There were 22 subjects which consist of 16 females and 6 males. The design was classroom action research design. The data which were needed for the present study were collected through Think Pair Share Combined with Video technique in two cycles and the obtained data was analyzed quantitively from the pre-test, post-test 1 and post-test 2; then qualitatively from the questionnaire. The result showed that the students’ mean score had significant improvement from the pre-test was 63.71 to 71.5 in post-test 1, and 80.13 in post-test 2. Furthermore, to collect the additional supporting data; the researcher administered the questionnaire at the end of cycle II. It showed positive responses toward the implementation of Think Pair Share Combined with Video. In conclusion, it could be concluded that speaking skills of the tenth-grade students of SMA (SLUA) Saraswati 1 Denpasar in academic year 2022/2023 could be improved use Think Pair Share Combined with Video.

Abstract

The purpose of the current study was to determine how to use a Three-Step Interview as a teaching method to help the eighth-grade students at SMPN 5 Mengwi in the academic year 2023/2024 enhance their speaking abilities. The Three-Step Interview helped the students improve their speaking skills while gaining insight from their peers' thoughts and viewpoints. This study focused on 32 students, 14 of whom were male and 18 of whom were female. Action research in the classroom was used to design this study. The researchers completed two cycles to carry out the investigation. The test and questionnaire that the individuals were given served as the source of the study's data, which was qualitatively examined. The study's findings demonstrated a noteworthy enhancement in the participants' ability to carry out a brief conversation. Furthermore, the pre-cycle mean score was 56.88, the cycle I mean score was 73.28, and the cycle II mean score was 83.16. Additionally, the questionnaire demonstrated that the participants responded favourably to the Three-Step Interview during the learning process.

Abstract

Reading is a skill that people should be familiar with regularly because it is the foundation of language. Readers can learn a lot by reading. Reading encourages the growth of critical thinking skills as well. It also helps people to learn words and pronunciation. The primary goal of this study is to implement Preview, Question, Read, State, and Test (PQRST) in teaching reading. The subject in this study is the eighth-grade students of SMPN 3 Abiansemal in the academic year 2023/2024. The class consisted of 31 students lacking reading comprehension, especially in finding the main idea, general and specific information, textual meaning, and references. The researchers used three tests to collect data: pre-test, post-test, and questionnaires. The researchers used the mean score formula when all subjects' pre-test and post-test data were calculated. The result of the questionnaire in this study used to find out and analyze the students' percentages of the subject responses to the techniques is applied.

Abstract

Speaking is one of the important language skills among reading, listening, and writing skills. By mastering speaking skills, a person can communicate well to convey the information they have to others. However, there are several problems experienced by students in learning English, including student comprehension, grammatical errors, and fluency. The purpose of this study is mainly to determine whether the writing skills of seventh grade students of SMPN 7 Denpasar in the 2024/2025 academic year can be improved through the roundtable technique. This study uses a classroom action research design carried out in two cycles. The required data were collected by providing research instruments: monologue performance tests and structured questionnaires. After the research cycle process, it was found that the roundtable technique was an appropriate teaching technique to improve the subject's writing skills, especially in composing and performing short descriptive monologues. This can be seen from the results of the pre-test, post-test 1 and post-test 2, which showed a significant increase in the subject's writing skills. In addition, this is supported by a structured questionnaire that showed a positive response to the application of the roundtable technique. It can be concluded that the writing skills of class VII students of SMPN 7 Denpasar in the 2024/2025 academic year can be improved by applying the roundtable technique.

Abstract

Proficiency in writing involves not only understanding linguistic elements but also being able to process language and information in real-time. Preliminary research showed that most VIII G students at SMPN 4 Sukawati needed help with writing, particularly paragraph organization. To accomplish the goal, the researchers carried out two cycles of classroom action research. Tests, questionnaires, and research tools were used to gather the necessary data. Comparing the pre-test and post-test findings allowed for data analysis and revealed that the subjects' mean scores had significantly improved from the pre-test to the post-test. The questionnaire findings, also given out after the last cycle, provided evidence that the use of think pair share was well received. It may be inferred from the study instruments' results that think-pair-share can help SMPN 4 Mengwi seventh-grade students' writing abilities.
