Abstract

In 2024, Indonesia will hold general election, which is a routine agenda of every five years. But the 2024 election has an important signification as it would determine Indonesia's future. Apart from electing new members of parliament and a new president, after President Joko Widodo was unable to run for office due to the provisions of the 1945 Constitution, the 2024 election will be a touchstone for assessing the quality of democracy in Indonesia. At the end of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's administration, Indonesia's democracy was said to have stagnated, because President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s policies were more accommodative to various parties within the parliament in order to maintain political stability and economic growth. With such kind of policy, reform of the bureaucracy and the military must have proceeded slowly, and eradicating corruption is still a big homework, and the protection of minorities and freedom of the press had to be fought for. But under the Jokowi’s administration, Indonesia's democracy is said to have suffered a setback due to political polarization, revision of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) law, rampant corruption, and restrictions on civil liberties. To overcome this situation, it is important to provide political education to the public so that they are able to choose qualified leaders, such as through conducting lectures and discussions. The paper is a report of discussion held at Sunga Rukam village, Enok Subdistrict, Indragiri Hilir District. It showed that thatparticipants have a good understanding of political developments, especially those related to election, but they are still vulnerable to hoax and hate speeches, and in consequence, being trapped in political polarization

Abstract

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the largest coconut producers in the world. Coconut trees are found in almost every province across the country. Coconut apple (kentos) is a by-product commonly found in almost all areas of Indragiri Hilir Regency, where the majority of the population works as coconut farmers. The aim of this study is to transform coconut apple waste into a valuable food product that is appealing to all segments of society. The results of the study show that the steamed sponge cake with the addition of coconut apple was well accepted by the panelists based on organoleptic characteristics, including color, aroma, texture, and taste. Based on the organoleptic evaluation (color, aroma, texture, and taste), it was concluded that steamed sponge cake with added coconut apple was acceptable and preferred by the panelists. The best treatment was treatment D, which used 15% coconut apple, with organoleptic scores of 4.00 for color, 4.10 for aroma, 4.55 for texture, and 4.45 for taste.

Abstract

Background: The Indonesian government implements the Indonesia Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) standard to ensure environmentally responsible management of oil palm plantations. Compliance with ISPO is mandatory for both enterprises and independent smallholders involved in oil palm cultivation.Aims: A training program was established to educate these smallholders in agricultural business practices in line with ISPO principles, integrating both theoretical classroom instruction and practical field experience.Method: The training involved 45 participants, including 40 from the members of Farmer group and five independent non-member smallholders. Following this training, participants showed significant improvement in their understanding of farm business management metrics, including Equity Ratio (ER), Total Asset Turnover Ratio (TAT), and Return on Equity (ROE), among others. Results: The courses also covered essential ISPO principles such as Legal Compliance, Good Agricultural Practices, and Environmental Management. Evaluation of knowledge acquisition through written and oral assessments revealed a 95% increase in farmers' understanding of these management practices and ISPO criteria.

Abstract

This study compares the performance of the Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) model and an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) in forecasting annual palm oil production in Kampar Regency, using a univariate time series covering the period from 2013 to 2024. The forecasting aim is to support regional agricultural planning and decision-making in one of Riau Province’s key oil palm-producing regions. The ARIMA model was developed using the Box–Jenkins approach, which involves stationarity testing, optimal model identification, parameter estimation, and residual diagnostics, including ACF/PACF, Shapiro–Wilk, Jarque–Bera, and Ljung–Box tests. A feedforward ANN with three lagged inputs, five hidden neurons, sigmoid activation, and backpropagation training was constructed for comparison. Model performance was evaluated using RMSE, MAPE, and R². The results indicate that the ARIMA (1,1,1) model yields more stable and reliable forecasts, with diagnostic tests confirming white noise residuals and no significant autocorrelation. Conversely, the ANN model produced higher errors and indications of overfitting, likely due to the limited number of observations and the sharp increase in production recorded in the final data year. While ANN captured a stronger upward trend, which may represent an optimistic scenario, ARIMA provided more conservative and statistically valid forecasts under constrained data conditions. Overall, the ARIMA(1,1,1) model proved more suitable for the short univariate palm oil production series, yielding lower forecasting errors (RMSE = 273.88; MAPE = 8.92%) than the ANN model (RMSE = 283.53; MAPE = 9.03%).
