Abstract

To understand the meaning of a text or work of art can use a hermeneutic approach. This study aims to interpret the meaning in the lyrics of a Minangkabau folk song titled "Pasan Mandeh" with a hermeneutic approach using Paul Ricoeur's theory, which outlines the steps of understanding by starting from semantic, reflexive, and existential Understanding. Ricoeur's theory was chosen because of several distinctive reasons not shared by other figures, namely Ricoeur rejected hermeneutics as a rigid and objective method. Ricoeur viewed the text as an autonomous entity independent of the author's intention, so that readers have the space to creatively appropriate meaning but are still limited by the content of the text. The research method uses a literature study and interviews. The results of the study found that the first is a semantic understanding that contains a literal understanding of meaning, and it is not deep, as in the song lyrics, where there is the use of symbols that describe the beauty of nature and life. Second is a reflexive understanding that examines meaning by adjusting the cultural context, such as using "Kato Malereang" in everyday life. The third is an existential understanding that reflects on the meaning of the song lyrics and applies the moral messages and life values channeled by the author through the song lyrics.

Abstract

This study examines semantic challenges in translation with an emphasis on problems related to ʿIlm al-Dilalah (the science of meaning). The method used is qualitative descriptive with a case study design, data collected from observations, interviews, and documents in the form of books, journals, and scientific papers on translation studies and semantic theory. Mukhtar Umar's views were highlighted, emphasizing that the core of the translation problem is the difficulty of choosing the right semantic equivalent. The findings suggest that the main problem lies in translator limitations in finding accurate and contextual equivalents of meanings. The problems that occur are differences in semantic range, contextual distribution, use of majas, partial classification differences, politeness and taboo terms in conversation. This research emphasizes the importance of deep semantic mastery for translators. This approach makes a significant contribution to the theoretical and practical aspects of translation.

Abstract

Authentic assessment is an evaluative approach that emphasizes real-world skills, aligns with real-life contexts, and encompasses both the process and outcomes of learning. As a form of assessment adapted to real-life situations, it is expected to effectively address the challenges of the digital era. This study aims to describe authentic assessment strategies in Arabic language learning in the digital age. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through a literature review of various sources, including books, articles, and journals, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The findings indicate that authentic assessment differs from traditional assessment as it evaluates students based on the application of knowledge through meaningful tasks such as projects, portfolios, presentations, and debates. In Arabic language learning, authentic assessment can be developed based on the four language skills (maharah lughawiyah). Strategies for authentic assessment in the digital era can utilize technologies such as podcasts, videos, online story websites, and collaborative platforms to create relevant and engaging learning experiences.

Abstract

This problem addresses how Mahmoud Darwish's poetry expresses symbolic resistance through ecological, empathic, and spiritual narratives that are grounded in the collective suffering of the Palestinian people. The purpose of this research is to reveal the meaning of colonialism and ecoresistance ideologically and rhetorically as a form of resistance to colonial hegemonic narratives. This research uses contextual qualitative analysis method with triangulation of sources and theories, through documentation and literature study. The results show that natural symbols such as water, trees, and light become markers of spiritual and ecological attachment to the homeland as well as a form of resistance to colonialism. Religious elements strengthen the legitimacy of transcendent and collective resistance. This poem conveys that resistance can take the form of empathy, solidarity, and existential awareness. This article contributes to a new reading of Darwish's poetry by combining ecological, spiritual and postcolonial dimensions. The findings are relevant for Middle Eastern literary studies and cultural conflict studies.

Abstract

The Qur'an, as the divine revelation to Prophet Muhammad, employs Arabic language, necessitating a deep understanding of Arabic linguistics, including semantics (ʿilm al-dalālah). This study explores the phenomenon of tadhadh (antonyms) in the Qur'an from a semantic perspective, aiming to identify and analyze antonymic word pairs and their implications in Qur'anic discourse. Using a qualitative approach with library research methods, the study examines Qur'anic verses, classical and modern linguistic sources, and scholarly works on Arabic semantics. The findings reveal five types of antonyms based on Al-Khammas’ classification: (1) absolute antonyms (taḍādd ḥādd), (2) graded antonyms (taḍādd mutadarrij), (3) converse antonyms (taḍādd ʿaks), (4) perpendicular antonyms (taḍādd ʿamūdī), and (5) straight-line antonyms (taḍādd imtidādī). Examples from various Qur'anic verses illustrate how these antonyms enhance rhetorical and theological depth. The study underscores the importance of semantic analysis in Qur'anic exegesis, contributing to broader linguistic and interpretive studies of the Qur'an.

Abstract

This study explores the implementation of the scientific integration model at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, which seeks to eliminate the dichotomy between general science and Islamic science within the university's educational, research, and community service frameworks. The primary objective is to analyze both the conceptual and operational aspects of scientific integration through a qualitative-descriptive approach using literature study. Data were obtained from books, journal articles, research reports, and educational policy documents, particularly from the last decade, and were analyzed thematically. Findings reveal that UIN Malang applies a unique integration model symbolized by the "tree of knowledge," where Islamic sciences serve as the foundation and general sciences form the branches. This model is operationalized through an integrated curriculum, inductive-deductive teaching strategies, and institutional policies that position the Qur'an and Sunnah as epistemological sources for all disciplines. The study contributes theoretically to the discourse of integrative education and practically offers a replicable model for other Islamic higher education institutions aiming to produce graduates with both intellectual excellence and spiritual integrity rooted in moderate Islamic values.

Abstract

The main problem of this research is the low optimization of students' reading skills (maharah qiroah) due to the dominance of conventional methods, so it is necessary to implement an Image-Based Learning approach based on Dual Coding theory. This study aims to analyse the implementation of the Image-Based Learning (IBL) approach based on the Dual Coding theory in improving Arabic reading skills (maharah qiroah) of 12 postgraduate students during the learning process in the classroom. The study employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through direct observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of the learning process in the Arabic Language Education Programme at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang. Data validity is ensured through triangulation of sources and data collection techniques. The results indicate that the IBL approach is effective in activating students' schemas, enriching vocabulary, deepening understanding of Arab cultural context, and developing critical thinking skills through text structure analysis. The integration of Dual Coding theory enables students to process information simultaneously through visual and verbal channels, significantly enhancing retention and reading comprehension. These findings reinforce the evidence of the effectiveness of interactive visual media in Arabic language learning. The contribution of this research lies in affirming the strategic role of visualisation in developing analytical skills and comprehensive discourse understanding. Therefore, the Dual Coding-based IBL approach is recommended as an adaptive pedagogical strategy in maharah qirā’ah learning to meet the demands of 21st-century learning.
