Abstract

Albeit the vast integration of mobile technologies into English classrooms at junior high schools, measures to elevate speaking performance through mobile instant messaging, such as Telegram, remains scant. Addressing this void, this classroom action research (CAR) aimed to enhance students' speaking fluency and accuracy by using Telegram as a tool for speaking tasks. A group of eighth-grade students was chosen based on the preliminary noting their struggled with speaking skills and the issues concerning low learning engagement. This research operationalized mobile technology and communicative language learning tasks in two cycles, each of which involved two meetings and one meeting of a speaking test. Research data were collected from the speaking test and observation. Descriptive statistics revealed the improvement of students' speaking proficiency from the first to the second cycle, 35% and 48%, respectively. The speaking task was also successful in amplifying students' engagement, where 61% of them were actively engaged in the second cycle, compared to 57% in the first cycle. This research exhibited how Telegram mediated supportive and engaging authentic speaking tasks even for beginner learners. Research implications underscore the potency of Telegram for transforming speaking practice as a challenging experience into an inviting and personalized learning endeavor.

Abstract

Reading activity is an important learning skill for students to master. This research aims to determine the differences in reading comprehension abilities between students who take part in learning using the KWL model, CIRC model, and DRA model; differences in reading comprehension abilities between students who have high, medium, and low interest in reading;[HA1] and describe the results of the interaction of learning models and interest in reading on comprehension abilities. This quantitative research uses experimental methods. Data collection techniques using test and non-test techniques. Test techniques are used to measure reading comprehension ability, while non-test techniques are used to collect reading interest data. The analysis technique used in this research uses two-way ANOVA with the help of SPSS 25. The results of the research data analysis show no real difference in the reading comprehension ability of students who use the KWL and CIRC learning models. Still, it significantly differs from students using the DRA learning model. It can also be seen that students with low and moderate interest in reading are not significantly different, while students with high interest in reading are significantly different.

Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to determine the pedagogical model developed in relation to the mission of the MT language group.  Overall, the research was carried out using the R & D method through 4-D steps: define, design, develop, expand, and disseminate (Thiagarajan, 1974). From these 4-D steps, the first three steps in developing learning models were carried out in the first year after experiments were carried out in previous research in 2023. Furthermore, the teaching development guide manuscript was still carried out in the second year. In the second year, the teaching models that have been tested still undergo a further development stage to perfect them, and then they are tested again on a larger scale. The results in the third year will undergo the dissemination stage. The manuscript for the Guide to Developing a Multimedia-Based Teaching Model will be subjected to a limited trial to obtain input as material for improvement. So, this manuscript is still in the development stage, which will be followed by the dissemination stage in the third year
