Abstract

In the context of globalization, proficiency in the English language is increasingly recognized as essential for students pursuing studies in economics. This study aimed to evaluate economics students' specific English language needs and provide recommendations for addressing these needs. This study involved a mixed methods approach, which utilizes both quantitative and qualitative research techniques. Questionnaires and interviews were employed as the data collection instruments. The findings underscore the importance of tailored English materials aligned with economics-specific terminology and concepts. The study suggests integrating economics key terms and vocabulary into the curriculum to support students in enhancing their English proficiency. Additionally, the research emphasizes the significance of collaborative efforts between economics faculty and English language instructors to develop effective teaching strategies and materials. The study concludes by highlighting the necessity of addressing the English language needs of economics students to prepare them for success in the global economic landscape.

Abstract

The river is one of the sources to meet the water needs of the community. Many residents still depend on the surrounding rivers for clean water for their daily needs. But ironically, the society’s concern for the cleanliness of the river has not yet grown. The low society awareness of environmental conservation in watersheds causes water pollution and water quality to be disturbed. The purpose of this service activity is to provide assistance in river management and conservation through the Sekardadu (Watershed Care School) program in Grogol Village – Giri – Banyuwangi. The method used was in the form of socialization/providing education and assistance by engaging directly with the community in conserving the river. The results of this activity were the community can implement the theory that has been given during socialization, they understands the importance of managing rivers, the emergence of society awareness and understanding to maintain river cleanliness, as well as the growth of shame culture when disposing of garbage, waste, defecation and polluting rivers so that water quality in the river is maintained thus providing great benefits for the continuity of daily life.

Abstract

Pola asuh yang diterapkan oleh orang tua merupakan salah satu elemen berpengaruh pada motivasi belajar anak, sehingga menjadi salah satu faktor penentu dalam keberhasilan proses belajarnya dan dalam meraih prestasinya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara pola asuh orang tua dan motivasi belajar anak kelas 6 Sekolah Dasar di SDN 2 Sumberkencono Kecamatan Wongsorejo Kabupaten Banyuwangi tahun 2023. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif dengan desain penelitian korelasional. Jumlah 35 responden dengan menggunakan teknik Total Sampling. Alat ukur menggunakan kuesioner. Pengolahan data dan Analisis Data menggunakan Editing, Coding, Scoring, Tabulasi dan dianalisis dengan uji statistik korelasi Chie Square SPSS 25 for windows 8 dengan tingkat ? = 0,005. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pola asuh yang dominan adalah otoriter (66% responden). Sedangkan hubungan kedua variabel penelitian dengan uji Chie Square dengan SPSS ?= 0,7 > ?= 0,05 maka Ho diterima dan Ha ditolak yang berarti dan terdapat hubungan antara pola asuh orang tua dan motivasi belajar anak.

Abstract

This Community Service aimed to enhance the parents' ability to educate their children to possess self-reliance skills from an early age. The activity considered the importance of self-reliance skills as the foundation for a child's continuous development. A total of 24 parents with early childhood in Rejosari Village, Glagah, Banyuwangi, participated in this program. The method used was education and training conducted interactively, involving active participation from parents and supplemented with direct practice and discussion. The results showed an improvement in parents' knowledge and skills in supporting the development of children's self-reliance skills. Parents became more understanding and skilled in applying self-reliance education methods, as well as identifying and overcoming obstacles that arise in educating their children. This activity also created a learning community among parents, where they could share experiences and strategies for educating children to be more independent. This community service has positively impacted increasing parents' skills and knowledge in supporting the development of self-reliance skills in early childhood.

Abstract

Tiga komponen utama yang saling berpengaruh dalam pembelajaran yaitu kondisi, metode, dan hasil pembelajaran. Oleh sebab itu guru harus mengupayakan supaya kegiatan belajar mengajar bisa berjalan sesuai harapan, dan dapat mencapai hasil yang optimal. Beradsarkan hasil wawancara para guru masih mengalami kesulitan mengembangan model pembelajaran bagi peserta didik yang menyebabkan siswa bosan dan cenderung kurang tertarik mengikuti pembelajaran. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan potensi guru melalui metode Quantum learning model SHINE (Spiritual, Humanis, Intelligence, Nasionalis, dan Emosional). Sasaran program ini adalah para guru TPQ, SD/MI, dan SMP/Mts se kabupaten Banyuwangi sejumlah 150 orang. Kegiatan workshop Smart Teaching ini menambah wawasan dan referensi bagi para guru untuk membuat model pembelajaran lebih bervariasi sehingga para siswa tidak bosan dan lebih tertarik mengikuti proses pembelajaran.

Abstract

Setiap anak memiliki keunikannya sendiri – sendiri yang tidak bisa disamakan satu dengan lainnya, termasuk dalam hal kecerdasan dan gaya belajar. Perbedaan gaya belajar tentunya akan berpengaruh pada penerapan model pendampingan dan metode belajar yang sesuai dengan karakter siswa. Para pengurus panti asuhan Budi Mulya Banyuwangi merasa kesulitan pada saat melakukan pendampingan belajar pada anak – anak panti karena terbatasnya skill tingkat kemampuan dan pemahaman anak berbeda – beda. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan sosialisasi dan pengenalan jenis kecerdasan dan gaya belajar anak – anak agar para pengurus/pembina panti dapat mengetahui gaya belajar yang dapat dijadikan bahan pertimbangan dan referensi dalam menentukan metode dan merancang model pendampingan belajar yang sesuai dengan karakter anak. Mitra kegiatan pengabdian adalah anak panti sejumlah 20 siswa dan pengurus panti. Metode yang digunakan yaitu ceramah, tanya jawab, diskusi, dan pendampingan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan para peserta dapat mengidentifikasi gaya apakah visual, auditori, maupun kinestetik yang bisa dijadikan sebagai dasar para pengurus panti dalam mendampingi belajar anak – anak panti.

Abstract

Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kapasitas petugas pelayanan masuk/Front Office di Balai Taman Nasional Alas Purwo dalam melayani pengunjung dengan lebih baik. Kegiatan ini dilatarbelakangi oleh pengamatan terhadap beberapa tantangan yang dihadapi oleh petugas, termasuk keterbatasan dalam pengetahuan kepariwisataan, keterampilan komunikasi, dan penggunaan teknologi informasi. Metode yang digunakan yaitu ceramah, diskusi, praktik langsung, dan simulasi situasi nyata. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan bahwa setelah mendapatkan pelatihan, kapasitas petugas pelayanan masuk meningkat secara signifikan dalam hal pengetahuan mengenai taman nasional, keterampilan komunikasi, serta pelayanan kepada pengunjung. Partisipasi aktif petugas dalam pelatihan dan workshop juga ikut meningkatkan rasa memiliki terhadap tugasnya, yang pada akhirnya berkontribusi pada peningkatan kualitas layanan kepada pengunjung. Hasil pengabdian ini diharapkan bisa berkontribusi positif dalam meningkatkan pengalaman pengunjung serta mengoptimalkan fungsi taman nasional sebagai destinasi wisata alam yang berkelanjutan.

Abstract

This study examines correlation between parenting styles and stress levels among 6th-grade students at SDN 2 Sumber Kencono Wongsorejo prior to examinations. The study employed quantitative methods and utilized questionnaires as the primary means of collecting data. The sample was 35 6th-grade students who were about to take the exam, selected through purposive sampling. The findings show a correlation between the parenting style parents applied and the stress level experienced by children before the exam (p-value = 0.002). Students who experience democratic parenting tend to have lower stress levels compared to students who are educated with authoritarian, neglectful, or permissive parenting styles. This study concludes that parenting style is vital in determining children's stress levels before exams. Democratic style can help children manage stress more effectively. The findings are expected to be a reference for parents and schools in developing strategies to help children face stress before the exam. Abstract

Abstract. As one of world languages, English is broadly used in many aspects such as science, business, technology, and education. Thus, English is highly necessary to be introduced as soon as possible to the students in order to compete in the globalization era. The purpo se of this community service activity is to integrate the English material in the curriculum of TPQ (Al -Qur’an Learning Center), so the students can know earlier ab o u t English as a global language. This activity was conducted at TPQ Al -Mataab - Tembokrejo – Muncar – Banyuwangi in which the classes were divided into two, they are class A (students aged 7 -10) and class B (students aged 11-14). The methods used were drilling, flashcard, and songs in training and giving Basic English materials to the students. Some steps in performing this activity were preparation, conducting pre test t o find out the initial of students’ English ability, training and teaching, and giving posttest to know the progress o f the activity. The mean score result of class A showed the enhancement from 43.89 in pre test to 62.41 in posttest . While in class B the pre test result was 61.4 and in posttest increase into 71.6. It indicated that students are eager and excited in learning English and it is feasible and potential to be integrate d in TPQ curriculum.Key Words: English, TPQ (Taman Pendidikan Al -Qur’an), Learning Abstrak. Sebagai salah satu bahasa dunia, bahasa Inggris digunakan secara luas dalam banyak aspek sep ert i ilmu pengetahuan, bisnis, teknologi, dan pendidikan. Sehingga bahasa Inggris sangat diperlukan untuk diperkenalkan sesegera mungkin kepada para siswa agar dapat bersaing di era globalisa si. Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah untuk mengintegrasikan materi bahasa Inggris dalam kurikulum TPQ, sehingga santri dapat mengenal Bahasa Inggris lebih awal sebagai bahasa global. Kegiatan ini dilakukan di TPQ Al-Mataab - Tembokrejo - Muncar - Banyuwangi yang mana kelas di TPQ dibagi menjadi dua, yaitu kelas A (santri berusia 7-10 tahun) dan kelas B (santri berusia 11-14 tahun). Metode yang digunakan adalah drilling, flashcard, dan lagu dalam memberikan pelatihan dan materi Bahasa Inggris Dasar kepada santri. Beberapa langkah dalam pelaksanaan kegiatan ini adalah persiapan, melakukan pretest untuk mengetahui kemampuan awal bahasa Inggris santri, memberikan pelatihan dan pengajaran, dan memberikan posttest unt u k mengetahui kemajuan hasil kegiatan. Hasil nilai rata -rata kelas A meningkat dari 43.89 pada pretest menjadi 62.41 pada posttest. Sedangkan di kelas B hasil pretest 61.4 dan pada posttest meningkat menjadi 71.6. Ini menunjukkan bahwa santri sangat bersemangat dalam belajar bahasa Inggris dan hal ini sangat bagus dan layak untuk diintegrasikan dengan kurikulum di TPQ.Kata Kunci: Bahasa Inggris, TPQ (Taman Pendidikan Al-Qur’an), Pembelajaran

Abstract

It cannot be denied that teaching English as a foreign language is very challenging because there are still many problems faces. Various responses can be found at class such as students’ attitude toward learning, learning outcomes, and students’ active involvement in carrying out group activities especially if it is categorized as a large class which consists of more than 30 students. Small group discussion (SGD) offers a solution in order to make students more active by interacting, exchanging information, maintaining opinion, and solving problems in a group. Meanwhile in 21st century era technological advances like social networks grow rapidly. Lately many students have accessed social media to find information and learning resources. One of social media which is popular among students and educators is WhatsApp. We can create WhatsApp group to share information and discuss the material, so it can optimize the smart phone function in education. This study aimed to observe the effectiveness of small group discussion incorporating with WhatsApp group in teaching English. The research design used was quasi experimental. Experimental class was treated by using small group discussion through WhatsApp group, while control class was taught through lecturing. The finding showed that the significance of t-count was 0.000. It was lower than 0.05. It revealed that there is significant effect on the use of small group discussion through WhatsApp group in teaching English as a foreign language. Through WhatsApp group students feel free to discuss everything, more confident and brave to express their ideas. So WhatsApp is effective to be implemented in learning process.
