Abstract

Background: The level of medication adherence among the elderly with hypertension is decreasing globally, including in Indonesia. Medication adherence is a major factor in treatment effectiveness for hypertensive patients. The Health Belief Model is one of the theories illustrating factors influencing patients’ medication adherence. Purpose: This study aimed to analyze determinant factors of medication adherence among the elderly with hypertension based on the application of the health belief model. Methods: This is a descriptive-analytic study with a cross-sectional approach. Sampling used a proportional stratified random sampling technique involving 193 patients with hypertension recruited from one of the Regional General Hospitals in Denpasar City Center. Data were obtained using three questionnaires, namely demographic characteristics, the health belief model (HBM), and the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8). Data were analyzed using binary logistic regression. Results: The research results showed the majority of respondents (62.7%) were compliant in taking medication. Multivariate test results showed that perceived susceptibility (p <0.001; AOR: 5.163), perceived benefits (p <0.001; AOR: 12.061), self-efficacy (p <0.001; AOR: 3.213), perceived barriers (p <0.001; AOR: 0.133) and cues to action (p <0.001; AOR: 3.480) is related to medication adherence in the elderly with hypertension. Conclusions: Perceived benefit is the strongest determining factor of medication adherence among the elderly with hypertension. Respondents with high belief in perceived benefits tend to adhere to medication 12.061 times compared to respondents with low belief in perceived benefits. Health workers are advised to increase the elderly's belief in the perceived benefits and perceived susceptibility to increase their medication adherence.

Abstract

This study aims to identify factors that influence compliance with the use of non-sterile gloves among health workers. The method used is a literature review. There are ten articles obtained from online databases on Pubmed, Science Direct, and other sources. Articles were selected using PRISMA and article appraisal. The results of this study show that health workers use gloves not in accordance with guidelines such as not carrying out hand hygiene before and after using gloves, using gloves more often than necessary, and failing to remove or change gloves at the right time. Factors that encourage health workers to wear non-sterile gloves are personal protection, patient protection, motivation to create a professional image and follow in the footsteps of seniors. Meanwhile, misuse and non-compliance with the use of gloves is influenced by a lack of knowledge and situational understanding of indications for use, age, gender, discomfort due to the use of PPE, lack of availability and access to PPE, attitude of health workers, and lack of supervision. In conclusion, health workers' compliance in using gloves can be improved with health education about controlling and preventing the spread of disease, training and refreshers in the proper use of PPE, supervision and management support to increase the availability and accessibility of PPE. Abstract

Introduction: Stroke is a common disease that disrupts daily activities and can even lead to death. According to the World Health Organization (2016), stroke is the leading cause of disability worldwide and the second leading cause of death. Stroke affects various aspects of life, including mobility, emotions, attitudes, and communication. Stroke patients often experience activity limitations, making them dependent on family caregivers for assistance with daily needs. This dependency can place a significant burden on family caregivers, leading to stress. This research aims to analyze the key factors contributing to stress among family caregivers of stroke patients. Methods: This study employed a literature review approach, analyzing 16 articles published between 2017 and 2024 in either Indonesian or English. Only full-text articles were included. The literature review followed the PRISMA checklist to ensure the appropriate selection of studies aligned with the research objectives. Results: Several factors contribute to stress among family caregivers of stroke patients, including (1) age, (2) duration of caregivers, (3) gender, (4) burden, and (5) (1) age, (2) duration of caregiving, (3) gender, (4) burden, and (5) social support received from other family members. Conclusion: This highlights the need for tailored stress management strategies, stronger social support networks, and further research to understand varying stressors. Policymakers and healthcare providers should prioritize creating resources, raising awareness, and offering personalized support to alleviate caregiver burden and improve overall well-being.
