Abstract

AbstractScience generic skill is a basic thinking skill needed in learning science. Student science generic skill was on low category, so the appropriate learning model was needed to solve it. This research aimed at finding out the effect of Case Based Learning (CBL) model toward student science generic skill on Crude Oil lesson at the eleventh grade.  This research was conducted on Crude Oil lesson in the Academic Year of 2023/2024 at State Senior High School 3 Tapung. Quasi-experiment method was used in this research. The subjects of this research were 2 classes experiment and control groups, selected by using purposive sampling technique. Based on the research findings, posttest showed that the significance score (2-tailed) 0.038 was lower than 0.05, so it showed that there was a significant difference between experiment and control groups. Besides, N-gain mean of experiment group science generic skill was 0.52, and the control group was 0.41. Therefore, it could be concluded that CBL model affected student science generic skill on Crude Oil lesson at the eleventh grade. The research findings were expected to help teachers in increasing student science generic skill by using CBL model in the learning process. Keywords : Case Based Learning, Science Generic Skill, Crude Oil

Abstract

The learning media in the form of Android needs an effectiveness test to find out its effectiveness in material implementation at school. The purpose of this research was to find out the efficacy of 3D Android-based Based Chemistry Learning Media in molecule form material on students' mental models if compared to common learning media used at the school. This research was conducted at MA Darul Hikmah Pekanbaru. The research method used was a mixed method with the research design of The Explanatory Sequential Model. The samples were selected based on the technique of simple random sampling on grade X students of MA Darul Hikmah Pekanbaru. The research instrument used was a two-tier diagnostic test supported by interviews. The data were processed by using the hypothesis test and N-Gain test. The research results showed that overall, the student's mental model in the experimental group that used 3D Android Application Learning Media had 63% intact mental model and 37% alternative mental model. In comparison, students in the control group obtained 22% intact mental model and 78% alternative mental model. The research findings also showed the hypothesis test, which obtained sig. Value (2-tailed) = 0.000, which means 0.000<0.05 until Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. Based on the N-Gain test, the experimental group showed quite an effective category, with the percentage of N-Gain amounted to 60%. This showed that media updates and material enrichment are required in order to increase the students' mental model.

Abstract

Traditional teaching methods in chemistry have been insufficient in helping students master problem-solving and conceptual understanding across the three levels of chemical representation: macroscopic, submicroscopic, and symbolic. Innovative strategies are needed to address these challenges and improve learning outcomes. This study evaluates the feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness of a non-routine learning strategy as an innovative approach to teaching chemistry. The research adopts the Gall and Gall Research and Development (R&D) model with a 3D design framework (Define, Design, Develop). The study involved chemistry education students from UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh and UIN Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau. Data collection instruments included validation sheets to assess feasibility, observation sheets for practicality and effectiveness, as well as tests and related documents. The findings demonstrate that the non-routine learning strategy is valid, practical, and effective. It significantly enhances students' ability to solve problems and explain chemical concepts using the macroscopic, submicroscopic, and symbolic levels of representation. This non-routine learning strategy represents a feasible and effective innovation in chemistry education, providing a practical tool for improving students’ problem-solving skills and conceptual understanding. Its implementation offers valuable insights for advancing chemistry teaching practices.

Abstract

The cognitive ability of each student is different. To improve it, it needs to be trained and optimized. The purpose of cognitive skills is the implementation of differentiated learning using a 3D Chemistry Periodic Table Application to improve the students’ cognitive ability. This research was implemented in the even semester academic year 2023 / 2024 at State Senior High School 1 Tambang. The method used in this research was mixed-method research with a research design Sequential Explanatory model, with research samples consisting of three classes of Grade X at State Senior High School 1 Tambang, namely two (2) experimental classes and one (1) control class. The post-test research result showed a significance of 0.000 < 0.05 until indicating a significant difference between the experimental and control classes. Besides, the average N-Gain of the experimental class namely 0.77, and the second experimental class was 0.71, with high category, and the control class was 0.60, with medium category. In other words, it is proven that differentiated learning with a 3D application increases cognitive ability. The students’ response after gaining the learning by using 3D was excellent, with a percentage of 81.41 %. The results of this research are expected to help teachers improve the students’ cognitive abilities.

Creative thinking skill is a competence of the 21st century that is needed very much and needs to be increased by utilizing chemistry in life. This research aimed at analyzing student creative thinking skills in experimental and control groups and finding out the effect of the daily life-based practical work learning method on student creative thinking skills. This research was conducted in the eleventh grade at High School 1 Pekanbaru on the hydrocarbon lesson. The quasi-experimental method was used in this research with pretest-posttest and non-equivalent control group designs. The instruments used in this research were essay tests, observation, and interviews to find out student creative thinking. The result of data analysis showed differences: the creative thinking skill posttest mean score of the experimental group was 77.1, and the control group was 70. Based on the result of testing the hypothesis by using SPSS, sign. (2-tailed) 0.000 was lower than 0.05, so Ha was accepted and H0 was rejected. The highest difference among creative thinking skill indicators between experimental and control groups was elaboration, and the lowest difference was originality. We expect the results of this study to enhance students' creative thinking skills, given regular training.

Abstract

Abstract The design of Islamic integrated teaching materials in chemistry subjects is an important effort to increase and grow the awareness of students from intellectual, emotional and spiritual aspects. This study aims to design Islamic integrated comics teaching materials on the nature of chemistry, and determine the level of validity and practicality as well as student responses to the designed comics teaching materials. The type of research used is Research and Development (R&D) with the Borg and Gall development model which includes 5 stages carried out namely information gathering, planning, development, testing, and final revision. The subjects of this research are material experts, Islamic religious experts, media experts, chemistry teachers and students of class X Science 1, and the object of research is an Islamic integrated comic on the material nature of chemistry. Comics are said to be feasible if they are valid and practical, with the percentage of validity obtained from material experts of 92.08% (very valid), the percentage of validity of Islamic religious experts is 76% (valid), the percentage of validity from media experts is 89.52% (very valid), the percentage of practicality obtained from chemistry teachers is 86.81% (very practical), and 80% of students give a very good response to the overall comic design. These results identify that Islamic integrated comics on the material nature of chemistry are valid and practical, further research is needed to test product productivity. Keywords : Teaching Materials, Comics, The Nature of Chemistry, Integrated Islam.

This research aimed the finding out science process skills of Junior High School students taught by using Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) approach with PhET Simulation. Quasi-Experiment method was used inthis research with nonequivalent control group design. All the ninth-grade Junior High School students were the population of this research. Purposive sampling technique was used in this research, and the samples were the ninth-grade students of class 1 as the experiment group and the students of class 2 as the control group. Collecting data was done by using science process skill test question and observation sheet. The data of student science process skill posttest result were analyzed by using Mann Whitney test with SPSS 22, and the result was 0,001. The findings showed that there was a significant difference of science process skills between students taught by using STEM approach with PhET Simulation and those who were taught by using scientific learning on atomic structure lesson at the ninth grade Junior High School students. N-gain test in the experiment group showed that the result was 0,50 with moderate category.
